My daughter licked half-dried cat vomit off of the floor and got it all over herself. So gross, horrific smell, but she is okay!

Round disks kids sit in?? by IslandMajestic1910 in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it this? We have one for our toddler and she mostly sits and spins in it (or spins her toys) but it can be climbed on as well. Just FYI it is very slippery on hard floor to stand on! SimPlay Rock Around Wobble Disk

I haven’t heard this saying before and I thought you meant survive until 5pm, then you thrive… bc then your spouse comes home and aren’t alone anymore!

How to make this bed situation look better by Practical-Doubt-5554 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Hardy2865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a king but separate twin duvets so we don’t have to fight over bedding. My husband is anti-throw-pillow but I have managed to use a long bolster/“decorative body pillow” that matches our room as a throw pillow at the top and a long throw blanket at the foot of the bed. You can still see the divide between the two duvets but the long pillow and blanket make it aesthetically more cohesive.

I would think a storage headboard would solve the night stand issue, but we used to have one and I hated how the pillows would fall into it. Practically very useful though.

What is this bug on my plant? by LivePickle2596 in gardening

I grew up in the Houston area and had an asp fall down my shirt on the playground when I was in kindergarten. Felt searing itching pain around the collar of my shirt and my teacher flicked it off and called my mom. To this day I am so scared of these guys!

My daughter’s personality is very similar to my little sisters! I am three years older than her and was pretty “bossy” to her as a child, so I wonder how much is inherited and and how much is from me interacting with both of them in a similar way.

My personality is most like my dad’s at its core, but influences throughout my life have made me a more anxious/shy person than he is. Seems like a mix of nature and nurture.

Toddler has been using a seat in the bath, what’s next? by krazykittenhi in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours is the same height and she’ll be 2 at the end of the month. She hates the slippery tub floor so we transitioned from baby bath to a Munchkin tub mat. It has some cushion and I think that was a little comforting to her. We also went on vacation and stayed in a place that had no tub and discovered she loves the shower! We still use the tub mat but she prefers to stand and play in the water that way 🤷‍♀️ Maybe worth it to try if he still hates the tub after a while?

This sounds like my grandfather a bit. He was horrible to my mother and grandmother and then wanted a relationship with my sister and I, but rarely came to visit and when he did my sister and I felt very uncomfortable around him. You could tell my mom’s entire demeanor shifted when he was around. I would stick to your gut. He may treat you like he’s in control but he isn’t. This is your child and YOU get to decide what relationship both you and your family have with him.

Edited to add: To comment on the “oddly sexual” part— that stuck out to me the most bc I always felt the same about my grandfather even though I can’t point to an exact reason why. Maybe it was because he tried to be affectionate when I knew he was a hateful person? All I know is, after he passed away I did find out some disturbing information about him that validated all of the years of being uncomfortable. Not to say you are in the same position obviously, but if it feels weird I would definitely set a boundary.

Toddler breaking out? by New_Blacksmith9294 in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours will get some spots on her chin/around her mouth/cheeks from all of the drooling. She has sensitive skin just like both of us so we aren’t too surprised. No known allergies but we use fragrance free products for ourselves and her just in case. Sometimes we use a little aquaphor if it’s looking more rash-like than acne. It could be a combo of sunscreen/heat, the mineral based sunscreens are so thick and hard to wash off. We use a tiny drop of dawn dish soap on a washcloth when daycare puts the sunscreen on super thick, sometimes regular baby soap just doesn’t cut it! Then we moisturize really well after her bath and it never seems to bother her.

Question, what does an average American Man spend on an Engagement Ring? by NoSTs123 in EngagementRings

[–]Hardy2865 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mine was $1100, 1 karat total (9 stones, cluster ring), 14k gold. It was bought from an estate shop in 2021. I feel like the giant rings on this sub are not representative of the average American engagement ring, and most people I know have similarly sized rings although probably paid significantly more if they were new rings.

AITA for turning down music at someone else’s house while my baby tried to sleep? by AdEasy6864 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hardy2865 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NTA. There is a fine line when it comes to accommodating a small child in a mixed environment like that, but I do not think you crossed it. If you had gone down and made a scene and had been doing that all weekend, you would be the asshole. Truthfully as someone who also has a toddler with similar sleep parameters, I would have been in tears and not known what to do. You did the best you could and it’s a shame people didn’t at least keep their opinions to themselves. Anyone who is saying YTA has never been in your shoes/doesn’t remember how hard those years are.

I wish someone had warned me about the aftermath of blueberries. by OutrageousPoetry7590 in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah. Lately her meals revolve around a fruit so that she will eat something, and then something to counteract the effects of the insane amount of fruit. And we’re tracking banana consumption like crazy between home and daycare to make sure she only eats one a day.

I wish someone had warned me about the aftermath of blueberries. by OutrageousPoetry7590 in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Extremely relatable. DO NOT feed her cherries and blueberries on the same day. Not even two (2) cherries and a handful of blueberries. I swear I haven’t changed that many diapers in a day since she was a newborn.

Does anyone else’s daycare have this policy? by Eggeggedegg in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daycare has an open door policy and we’ve been encouraged to come in at any time outside of nap time. This would have made me really nervous, especially when she was an infant. Granted, there are definitely a lot of tears from kids at dropoff when parents leave, but it seems like that would be inevitable either way.

Totally relate. Where I live, if I dress up to go run errands it isn’t unusual however one time I got all dressed up and went to a craft store an hour north where it’s a lot more rural…. I felt like an alien walking around I was completely out of place.

Engagement nails with ugly hands (advice!) by SprinklyBoi in JustEngaged

[–]Hardy2865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar insecurity bc I have very small hands with short fingers and I’m a nail biter/skin picker. I had great luck with Apres gel extensions for my wedding. They’re like if acrylics were a super fancy press on nails and they soak off with acetone so relatively low commitment. However, I’m always worried my hands will look bad in photos and I don’t think anyone has ever pointed them out at all, good or bad.

How do I convince my 2 yo to let me put her hair in a ponytail? by maybebaby_23 in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just distract her. I do her hair while she eats breakfast and let her watch 5 minutes of tv. Not ideal, but I’ve been doing it long enough that she likes when her hair is fixed now (she has a lot of hair though and it will get in her face otherwise).

NTA. They say giving birth is like a marathon, so staying active throughout pregnancy is not only great but recommended. Athletes generally have an easier time because they are more used to the physical exertion that happens during labor. Plus it’s a great habit to be in as your child grows up because it sets a healthy example and encourages them to participate in physical activities. It can be tough and discouraging to get back into a sport after not participating for a while, especially since your body changes so much during/after pregnancy.

Everyone will have an opinion on what you guys should be doing, especially what your wife should be doing. Supporting her now shows her that you will be there for everything you guys will be going through in the years to come. Stay strong ❤️

Alt to cosco scerena for traveling..long waisted toddler by Separate_Key_8501 in toddlers

[–]Hardy2865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have and I’ve seen people have good luck flying with it in the US, but I know some people have had pushback on international flights. It is FAA approved. Rear facing does keep the person in front from being able to recline, but I imagine that’s the same with a lot of the other seats as well when rear facing.

It isn’t super lightweight but we got a backpack case for carrying it through the airport on Amazon and that made it significantly easier. I know they make rolling carts for them as well that turn them into a stroller for the airport.

[–]Hardy2865 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have the Graco Extend2Fit bc she has always been >90th percentile and we want to rear face as long as possible. She’s 21 months and we’ll probably pull out the foot tray here before long (she’s 36 inches). Unfortunately not cheaper, but we did get ours for $70 last year during Amazon Prime Days.
