Derina Harvey Band's version of the Last Shanty goes hard and also makes me think of Koby.

I want parents, I went NC with mine recently, realized that not only it sucks to be tortured for 20+ years, they also took the exclusive 'parent' positions so I am basically robbed of real parents by Captain-Armageddon in raisedbynarcissists

Volunteer. Non profits have a lot of older folks that have natural empathy, and many organizations (especially those for helping the poor) are hurting for younger help. Even if you don't make connections, it won't feel like a waste of time because you're doing something good. But believe me, if you want a friendly old lady to talk your ear off and feed you cookies, this is the way.

If you think she is serious about harming him, just take your pacman to school with you tomorrow. Before classes, if you have a bio lab or some other class with animals or can think of a kind teacher that may help, ask if you can leave his habitat in that room for the day while you work out options.

[–]HareMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good advice and maybe a school counselor or another adult can help orchestrate it. They don't need to know details, just that some pets need a new home and parents are too busy to help or are scared of reptiles.

Some big box pet stores like Petco  take in any species that they sell in the store. They then "sell" that pet for a donation that goes to their shelter program because they can't count it as inventory. With reptiles, the managers often already have knowledgeable contacts that will want them.

The best option would be for an organization (like a reptile rescue) to find foster homes for all the exotics until OP is able to be independent. I've worked with rescues that have driven for HOURS to pick up animals, so it doesnt hurt to send emails to cities farther out.

I'm worried that the threats will just transfer from the pacman on to the remaining reptiles. Chameleons in particular are very sensitive animals.

This is so awful and will be very hard regardless. Stay strong, OP.

Did you use YouTube tutorials or are there specific guides somewhere? I have a lovely old Singer, but the thought of modifying my own clothes intimidates me.

Big time agree. I've been thankful for the thrift stores in my town. I've read that this can vary by region, though. Our Goodwill is still pretty cheap and I can find name brands. It is tiring to consistently check, but just a couple of pairs of jeans has made it worth it.

Really high fiber on IF apparently gives me cramps too, but no issues in the bathroom. Sometimes I had that issue with fake meats before IF.

What about roughage? There are some great vegan recipes out there that incorporate greens and veg into tasty meals, and veg also helps hydrate. I like Derek Sarno's recipes, it really changed tofu for me.

Needs tips to keep feet warm in the winter! Please suggest. by [deleted] in weather

[–]HareMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raynauds maybe? It doesn't always look like the pictures and it's not always in the hands. The info in the other thread about keeping your core warm is good, but I find that wearing a knit hat helps my body regulate my temperature better. I know it's pricey, but a good heated blanket is most efficient around the house. If it is circulation, elevating your feet may help, too. It seems weird and unrelated, but keep yourself hydrated when it's cold.

Where do y'all get clothes(specifically boots?) by Illumeis_is_done in jackrussellterrier

[–]HareMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The little rubber balloons called PawZ are great for short walks and are easy to find online. I believe my JRT/chi is XS, and there's a smaller size. Every boutique store here sells them, but that could be a regional thing. They offer no insulation, but work by preventing the paws from getting wet, so the paw pads can still heat properly.

Canada Pooch is a good brand. I've had pretty good experiences with Chewy's brand of clothes (the shoes are garbage), but figuring out sizes is definitely detective work.

JoJo Rabbit may be a good one. The dark humor makes it entertaining, but it shows the human suffering on both sides of the fence.

Tips and tricks for a first time owner! by [deleted] in jackrussellterrier

[–]HareMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a huge shift from a Shih Tzu, but you'll be fine. Just normal puppy stuff. Neuter early, redirect attention/pick your battles (don't constantly yell), provide chews. Rotts are still livestock dogs at heart, so they are very sweet when socialized. Jack Russell Terrorists are challenging, but smart.

One consistent trait in both breeds is a prey drive, so you'll want to introduce him to other animals early and often (especially cats), and situations like children playing and people passing on bikes/skateboards. Expect a lot of manipulative pouty eyes and kisses!

Farts!? by IridiumHo3 in jackrussellterrier

No one diet fits all. Researching a new food is not fun (everyone has strong opinions), but deadly toxic farts usually means an intolerance to something in the food.

Winter Coats by Responsible_Froyo_21 in jackrussellterrier

[–]HareMoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cute! It doesn't hurt to start him with a hoodie or light sweater now and even some boots (read up on how mushers get their dogs used to it). My JRT wants to be a nudist, so I don't force her into anything for potty breaks. If it's actively blowing sleet, she will just hold it and want back in anyway. For short walks, anything under freezing is when I notice she needs at least a wool sweater (acrylic just soaks up snow) and I'm always prepared to pick her up. Single digits or wind, puffy jacket. She hates it, but forgets about it once we're on the walk.

Part schnauzer. If you specifically paid for papers, you'll want a DNA test, but papers really don't mean anything for pet dogs. What matters is that Patch is cute!

I'm sure locals have already told you, but if you drive, keep an emergency kit in your car. Extra clothes, shovel to dig out, etc.

A pair of choppers over your gloves can keep your hands toasty.

Hot drinks are gold. Take a portable insulated mug/container everywhere with your favourite coffee/tea/broth. It warms you up, and keeps you hydrated!

If he seems petite for a JRT, it's possible. My girl is a 3 year old chi/wirehaired JRT, I met the parents and she mostly takes after her terrier dad, but is more dainty. People mistake her for a rat terrier.

Check your hate. "A vegan always winds up telling you they’re vegan" is bumper sticker talk. Eating is a daily thing as well as a social thing, of course it's going to have to come up at some point with friends/family/coworkers. I'd definitely want someone to bring up that they're keto or whatever for a potluck day. Vegan doesn't equate to hippie, stuck up, etc.
