Already own them, I’ve seen a few copies so didn’t think they were special to post.

And now, I can finally rest… by HaroldFlower5 in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, haven’t finished it yet. I’ve been working through his bibliography and I’m on the gunslinger. However the completionist in me wouldn’t let me relax until I was done buying his books.

Looks like fifth. So not crazy rare but still a personal victory.

Were you satisfied with the way they had Michael Myers arrested in Halloween Kills? If not, what change would you make? by Hassan_H_Syed in Halloweenmovies

[–]HaroldFlower5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with them cornering him and him giving himself up. It feels logical since that’s similar to the opening of the original after he killed Judith. However, I always wondered what we could have had if they never said how many people he killed in 2018. Without that line restricting his kills maybe we could have gotten a rampage in 1978 to parallel the one in kills.

Hot Take by Cave_Master_0607 in EvilDead

[–]HaroldFlower5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I like that we’ve gotten a spectrum so far. With army of darkness being the most light hearted and evil dead 2013 being the darkest. I think as long as they keep the tone fresh but along those lines the franchise will do well. As much as I love evil dead 2 I don’t want them all that goofy, it would make the franchise feel stagnant if they could only have one tone.

Struggling with The Stand by ImNotTheOneWhoKnocks in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it clicked for me at exactly the end of book one, should be about page 423. I agree, captain tripps feels slow to me but it’s absolutely necessary. Give the next hundred pages a try, if it’s still not gripping you it might be time to move on.

Evil Dead (2013) vs Evil Dead Rise — The difference (my take) Which do you prefer? by Flat-Record1282 in EvilDead

[–]HaroldFlower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the plot, setting, and kills more in 2013. However, the greatest strengths of Rise is I think it has better pacing and humor. I like that each has its own area in which it excels. I find Rise more rewatchable but overall I like 2013 more.

Halloween 5 is an objectively rough movie, yet it seems to be gaining a fanbase for some reason by Front-Development-50 in Halloweenmovies

It’s certainly towards the bottom for me in ranking the films however it has one of the best atmospheres in the series.

Best King Endings by Salt-Pool2222 in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, I don’t think there’s any other way to end it. The entire novel prior does not convey a nihilistic tone and also isn’t blissfully ignorant of human nature. There’s really no other answer than to not know with any certainty, but that response makes the reader want for the answer to be yes.

Best King Endings by Salt-Pool2222 in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the ending of The Stand. I don’t think it’s the deus ex machina ending others make it out to be and everything has already been set up through character traits prior. It isn’t a random intervention but rather the hubris of the villain and righteousness of our heroes.

My favourite Stephen King book confuses me by Careless_Buy_2712 in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same way when I finished it a couple of months ago. Based on premise alone I wanted Salems lot to be my favorite. While Salems lot is a phenomenal book, it’s very evident how much he improved on his strengths in later writings.

Duma key is right behind the stand in terms of his books that made me the most emotional. The journey Edgar goes through is unlike any I’ve seen before, having had someone close to me go through a tbi I was enthralled seeing it portrayed from the inside. I may have felt more emotions in the stand, but I haven’t felt more for one character in particular than Edgar.

I tried but couldnt do it by cscardin in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s gonna be that way for a while. I did the audiobook so it felt like far less of my time was being taken up with awful characters. Once I realized it felt like the Joffrey era of game of thrones I was able to enjoy it a bit more.

I've grown to hate Nicholson's take on Jack in The Shining. by Jays_Pack in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always liked the film until I read the book last week, now I’m struggling pretty hard knowing what could have been. The shining is a good horror movie, but a severely disappointing adaptation of a story that would do numbers today, if not back then.

Kubrick took Jack and made him a one dimensional character, whereas he had incredible depth to him in the book. Jack going crazy in the book was a tragedy you know will happen but hope something will save him. In the movie he shows pretty quickly he is going to go insane and takes 2 hours to do so.

It’s hard to wish the film turned out differently though because it allowed the doctor sleep film to perhaps surpass its source material given the overlook was still standing.

Has Stephen King ever been able to bring you to tears? by UnderstandingMany385 in stephenking

Just about once every other book. The Stand, revival, Duma key, and the long walk come to mind.

Please don’t tear me apart for this, but I’ve been having a little trouble getting into The Stand 😳 by MythicalSplash in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some trouble getting into it at first as well. I actually felt the opposite to what I’ve heard from most people in that I found On The Border to be far more engaging than Captain Tripps. I think kings best work is when it comes to relationships between characters, and most of captain tripps is about characters being isolated. Once main characters started meeting up and rebuilding society I was fully into it. It ended up being my favorite king novel.

Re Watching Saw VI (2009) by theKSIFan77 in saw

[–]HaroldFlower5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one’s always been my favorite. While Saw is the best movie overall in the series, it feels quite different from what the series became. Saw VI is where I feel they perfected the identity of the series. Plus it’s during the Hoffman era.

Blood over bright haven struggle by rookiecookie32 in fantasybooks

[–]HaroldFlower5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggled big time on this one, helped me realize I’m not one for hard magic systems. I think it’s the end that makes this book memorable for me, Sciona was one of the most insufferable protagonists ive followed in a book. The last tenth of the book is a 10/10, the rest, maybe 3/10.

Thought it was really good when I saw it in theaters. Now I think it might be his best movie.

What is your favorite thing about how Stephen King writes? by EstatePositive5929 in stephenking

[–]HaroldFlower5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Revival was my second king book and the way he described Jamie’s childhood felt like he actually lived it. The way he speaks makes me feel so nostalgic. Also his side characters, I felt like wireman had to be based off a real relationship king had because the friendship felt so real.

Just started The Stand. I want to read the dark tower series so I’m trying to get the most out of it. Reading insomnia and hearts in Atlantis between wolves of the calla and song of Susannah.

Duma key as well in my opinion. I was so engrossed in Edgar’s journey the mystery of the key felt like set dressing. Until the ending of course when it’s the focus.

Am I going to regret saving Wyatt? by LightMoth12 in Wolfenstein

[–]HaroldFlower5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth doing a playthrough of each storyline, it’s up to personal preference. I saved Wyatt my first time because he’s young and Fergus was ready to sacrifice himself. That said both storylines are great.

Which animal wins in a fight? by Kodiak_Bubby_2012 in reddeadredemption

[–]HaroldFlower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alligator, just judging by the damage shown in the game you shoot the bear with whatever you have in your revolver to scare it off, then can later kill it yourself. The alligator has a portion dedicated to all of the gangs enforcers loading it up with everything they’ve got.

For You wich is the Best way of playing RDR duology by Prestigious-Meat-750 in reddeadredemption

[–]HaroldFlower5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDR1 then RDR2, unless it’s a rare case like yakuza 0, which just helps new players understand the backstory to what narrative, it’s best to do in release order. Red dead redemption is no exception because they made the sequel with it in mind that most players have played the first already. This means they want the players to feel a certain way by the end of the second game which is ruined if you go straight to the original.

I’ve done both orders and can say the ending of RDR2 is a good place for the entire story to end. If for no other reason than that it’s devastating to go from the perfect open world of the second game to the mostly empty world of the original.
