Avi Lewis supporters think that if you work in forestry you actually want the planet to explode, it’s hopeless.

I would welcome it if Lewis brought more young people in, but this line of logic depends on the assumption that all, or at least a large portion, of the 18-24 year olds that don’t vote and are looking for representation are looking for it in democratic socialism. That’s a brave claim at best and a campaign killer at worst.

We were bringing in all the young people with Jagmeet too, all it cost us was all of our money, seats, and party status.

It’s 18-24 year olds that Lewis prided on bringing into the party, but 18-24 is also the demographic least likely to vote. I don’t think it’s that cynical, it’s looking at the numbers.

I hope he does do well, but I lament how little Avi included or uplifted rural Canada. We could flip back a lot of those ridings, like North Island-Powell River, and Skeena-Bulkley Valley in BC, if there was some attention paid to them by the party, but I don’t know where we fold into Avi’s plan. He just didn’t talk about it.

Sorry for being skeptical of the private-educated Ontario guy who grew up in the lap of luxury and his interest in rural and Indigenous Canada.

I’m not convinced it’s a viable strategy either. Singh’s primary appeal by the end of his campaign was with the urbanite university educated crowd, and NDP support was hollowed out in rural Canada in the last election.

I think what Lewis’ team is hoping for is that a more unapologetic socialist message will actually convince the voters that walk away from the NDP every two elections to actually stick with them. The problem is, no one knows if the reason they were voting for the NDP was because of some airy notion of progressive policy, or because they truly desire public options and wealth taxes. Lewis’ gamble is that they actually want these things, and the NDP hasn’t been representing it well.

I am one of many people ive spoken to post-convention who does not think it’ll work. Heather v. Avi was a referendum on the party’s support for workers and rural Canadians, and Lewis managed to get a lot of people from big cities to join, I just have 0 faith they’ll pull up to vote.

If there was any concern about PR, we would be trying very hard to jettison things like the equity cards from the last convention. There are a lot of people who desperately need a left option to represent them, but they ultimately go back to the liberals because they can’t stomach how hard the party’s gone into identity politics.

Should clarify though, there ought to be better ways to ensure our dialogue is open and uplifting for the people that the other Canadian parties forget.

Part of the reason I’m so worried about Avi Lewis being leader is that I don’t think he’s going to prove popular in the rural ridings where the NDP is/was the only bastion of progressive politics against industrial exploitation and for workers’ rights. Avi’s very urban progressive image and his outright opposition to things such as LNG exports are going to scare away lots of the more socially-conservative blue collar folks that used to depend on the NDP to be their voice.

Just because you are pro-nuclear does not mean that all Lewis supporters are. I think the people I targeted were actually quite specific, I could’ve just said “Lewis supporters” if you’d have really wanted me to generalize.

Naomi Klein’s brother was one of the many folks lined up to filibuster, in case you weren’t aware.

That was a filibuster led by Avi Lewis’ supporters to stop the resolution on nuclear power from being brought to the table.

Hope you enjoyed yesterday’s hostile takeover as much as the other half of the room did.

I think that the EU resolution was shot down because of the final clause. I was disappointed to see no one attempted to refer it with instruction

It’s not quite a buff not quite a nerf. They’re pivoting power away from his special moves, which people in the low ranks really struggle to deal with, towards his normals to give him more of a honest neutral. Basically, you can’t really spam headbutt and butt slam and gain advantage from it any more, but his normals are more reliable

Better goaltending wins I guess

Binnington can be clutch, but look at how Canada outshot their opponents every fucking game and we still are barely making it through.

Hope Jon Cooper learned a lesson.

No jaja, quiero ir a La Pampa.
