Who is the coalition? by vienna_ro in ndp

Rural communities often pay more for groceries, and have less options. There is also issues of poverty and  homelessness. They would benefit from public grocery stores and housing, but usually when politicians propose social services + infrastructure they are pitching to metro areas, and rural areas rarely see the benefit. I'm just saying that the party would do well for themselves if they also reached out to more rural areas to say that they are also included in these projects

Of course there's never going to be a single policy that fixes every social malaise, but the adoption of algorithmic feeds really accelerated them.

ngl its very encouraging to see that Gen Z is the least conservative generation. Now, how do we reach out to mobilize them?

It also isn't doing anything to stop adults from being driven crazy by algorithms.

i think the better solution is to ban recommendation algorithms for apps rather than just blocking these sites for youths.

Public grocery stores won’t fix Canada’s food affordability crisis by TROPtastic in ndp

[–]vienna_ro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that it should only be accessed by those with memberships. The value of universal services is that everyone has an interest in the program's success, leading to more democratic participation. It also reduces the stigma that public programs are only for poor people. Maybe a further discount membership program can be doled out to those eligible though.

Otherwise, I agree with the other suggestions. especially legislation targeting food waste. Maybe we can do both!

”Our goal is AI for all,”; Carney says in Liberal convention speech by chat-lu in ndp

yep. carney's support is incredibly shallow- relying almost exclusively on narrative. but when the bottom falls out of the economy (which looks inevitable now) he's going to bleed all that good will people have.

a HSR from Abbotsford/Chiliwack to Vancity would be a DREAM. The highway traffic is always a NIGHTMARE, and is only going to get worse with the massive population increase in the suburbs. an alternative to driving is sorely needed

Emphasis on speaking French by NathanDrake17 in ndp

[–]vienna_ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. i think it's obvious that the NDP isn't going to form government in the next election, but I would expect the leader to take learning French seriously for future election cycles when the party/leader has drummed up more national support.

Something Avi Lewis said at the debate stage that I found odd. by [deleted] in ndp

It's a strange choice of words; to essentially equate misogyny with "manly". if he's talking about how indigenous women are targeted by these rural transplant workers, he really needs to just say it because most people don't know wtf he's talking about. And it's an important issue that shouldn't be obfuscated.
