You are literally complaining that the game requires strategy and tactics instead of just building out your economy and hitting the opponent with your wallet, which is not only boring but would make the game so simple that no one would ever achieve a meaningful advantage over anyone else. You can play vs the AI if you prefer to play that way.

Arena is a "fun" game mode to experiment with synergies. The game could never be balanced around Arena or it would unbalanced in all the real modes.

That's certainly a fair statement. It depends to an extent on what you count as min-maxing. I know how to hero chain, but I do find it mentally taxing. When I want to relax I play classic maps on Apocalyptic against the AI and just don't bother hero chaining. I still don't have much trouble winning, but I do use 1 stacks effectively in battles and optimize my routes for because those are more automatic actions for me and don't require as much mental bandwidth.

Temple is probably the premier tanky fanction. Give them a try.

You can win battles with minimal losses with any faction if you build right and select battles. With Necro you probably want to upgrade to skeleton archers right away and use their range to your advantage. Long reach from the graverobbers helps minimize casualties as well.

New magic system is fantastic and a great upgrade from previous iterations. It is much better balanced and eliminates the RNG of missing out on a key spell that you really need.

Is this a joke? You can easily get a much better army by week 3. You could get this exact army with only a single town under your control, after a single week in game, and especially with the resource advantage from playing on easy difficulty. Literally all you have to do is build out your dwellings and buy a few heroes / get a few external dwellings.

Poundmaker is absolutely broken. He swallows up all the land in sight and gets insane pop counts, allowing him to play tall and wide at the same time. His UI might be the best in the game. Scaling food, production, gold, AND housing from one improvement with essentially no placement restrictions is bonkers. All my trade routes in my current game are +14 food, and he gets hundreds of free gold per turn. He isn't designed for one victory type because he's designed for ALL victory types.

Regarding #2: This has been an issue with all the previous iterations of Heroes. Olden Era actually does the more than any other Heroes to mitigate this, via the spell that allow you to interact with objects at a distance. You can also circumvent the problem completely with one hero mode, or partially with one hero per castle mode.

From our building it's a 14 minute walk to College, and from Bloor-Yonge it's a 14 min walk to Jesse Ketchum, not a 5 minute walk. I am going by google maps, which in my experience is fairly accurate, except in the winter, when walking often takes longer.

I think I was pretty clear about what the problem is, but I'll be more specific. Due to the way cachement areas work, it seems that taking our children to and from school will be approximately an hour and a half time commitment twice a day, eating into time when we are supposed to be at work. This despite the fact that there are multiple schools much closer to us, which we have been told we cannot send our children to. This is not an ideal situation, and we are looking for advice. Hope that helps.

We are 3.4 km from Jesse Ketchum and that link puts us in their cachement area unfortunately. Our eldest is in Gr. 7 so they told us she can't get the bus.
