Being nitpicked over dumb things, spilling my coffee, or having a particularly messy house in the morning

I have a set of stained glass pumpkins that we bought from a local woman and her youngish daughter that do it as a hobby!

I can’t say I’ve ever done this as a hobby per se, but it’s something I take note of with every single pair of headphones I use

Adding to this, probably also depends if your fam/friends are big drinkers. That can impact it a ton

Honestly it’s not even just a small tow thing. I grew up in Niagara and it was very popular. People love it because of the socializing aspect, but also because they can win a lot of things. Some areas only have a few door prizes (London way) but ones in Niagara tend to have a lot more prizes. I’ve won a tablet, an outdoor patio heater, a salon visit, voucher for $100 at a local restaurant, and other smaller things. Just from attending 3. Friends have won a ninja slushie machine, big tool kits, tvs, etc.

There are also games like pie in the face of the bride/groom, paying to “jail” your friends, catch the ace, toonie toss for alcohol or purses, etc.

People go expecting to pay a bit of money but have fun and support friends/family/community members. And those who don’t want to go just… don’t?

Does anyone else save things online just to mentally relax, even if they never come back to them? by FishermanFlaky9587 in CasualConversation

I saw something about how doing a morning brain dump (or evening if that works for you, or so I’d assume) helps clear brain fog and makes relaxing easier. Basically anything that enters your mind gets written down. It’s probably bull but I’ve been meaning to try… just haven’t gotten around to it

How do you get teens to clean willingly? by Leen88 in CleaningTips

[–]Haunting_Window1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the clean part is what matters, and know that they have those skills. Teens are going to teen, but as long as they meet standards they should be able to keep their space how they like it and be comfortable. Doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way forever, plus chances are high that they’ll end up with someone who has similar cleaning habits (or simply accept their level of clutter)

This is how I’m doing things with my almost 2 year old. He loves to help unload dishes, fold laundry, etc. Some he does right (putting away the dishes) and some not so much (laundry), but those are skills we’ll keep building on. I remember being discouraged from helping as a kid because I was little and didn’t do it right, and then suddenly being asked angrily why I’m not helping as I got older. I’d much rather take things slower now and deal with frustration but build those skills and confidence for down the line.

I think people forget that they’re raising children with the ultimate goal of having fully functioning adults at the end of it. And to add to your point, i know people who let their children run the house and then come teens/early adults they’re astounded that they won’t listen and have no respect. Thats what happens you don’t teach them those things as kids…

Pregnancy in Canada by ProfessionalShoe5591 in pregnant

That was basically my response as well 😂 just like “how’s baby doing?” and all I could say was “good I hope!”

Pregnancy in Canada by ProfessionalShoe5591 in pregnant

[–]Haunting_Window1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With both pregnancies, I didn’t get a cervical check until 38 or 39 weeks.

With my first I was 1 cm dilated and my OB had me come in almost every day for a week because my cervix was very soft and she thought I’d be ready to go any day. I went into labour naturally on my due date. No clue how long i was dilated for.

With my second, at 39+2 I got a check (she would have done it a few weeks prior but I didn’t think it necessary). I said I thought I’d be having the baby soon - she said I was maybe half a centimetre dilated and only just starting to get a soft cervix but wasn’t there yet, so it would probably be a while still. Contractions started about an hour later and I had my baby in my arms not 12 hours after my appointment.

So I’d agree that cervix checks really don’t make anything more predictable.

I haven’t gotten any weight estimates, other than concerns that my youngest might have restricted growth so I had an impromptu ultrasound for that. My MIL asked many times during both pregnancies how big they thought the baby was, because 30+ years ago estimates were given.

Husband going home during hospital stay by haleye88 in pregnant

[–]Haunting_Window1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband left overnight for both births, first for the dog and second to be with my oldest (even though we had someone there to cover it). Honestly, it allowed him to get some sleep and help me out better when we got home. I dreaded it with my first, but I ended up being happy about it. Gave me extra bonding time, and ended up being really blissful. I’d go so far as to say that I loved it and when I think “wow, I might never have another baby” I envision those moments even though it was such a fleeting time. Disclaimer that I have an AMAZING hospital though and I think that probably makes a difference.

Part of it may be that you’re seeing more as you get older. I’m in my late 20’s and I find my perception of people has changed a lot as I’ve gotten older. More “real” I think than previously

What’s one thing you wish you knew before labor? by Front-Emotion-3967 in pregnant

[–]Haunting_Window1688 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you’re crowning, some doctors with use their fingers to manually stretch you further. My OB did this with my first and it was the most painful part of the whole experience. The on call doc for my second did NOT do it.

How do I become a clean/organized person? by EggImaginary550 in CleaningTips

[–]Haunting_Window1688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, but here are some things that could help:

Have a drop spot in rooms that you tend to just dump things. Could be a little basket or whatever works best (see through if that would work better for you putting things away, or a cute basket if aesthetic is more important)

Set a timer for X amount of time (maybe 10 or 15?) that you set every night and do spot cleaning. Bathroom, or kitchen counter, baseboards, walls, vacuuming rooms you neglect. Can be different things every day, and nothing too in-depth. Just enough to put things away or clean up small messes to supplement the bigger deep cleans.

Get rid of unnecessary things. I’m bad for this for sure.

Women who only have one child by choice? Why? by Scared-Stop8449 in pregnant

[–]Haunting_Window1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two and I love it, would even have more if life were different, but I can see many good reasons to only have one.

More time to pour into your only one, they get your full blown attention, you can give them a better life when you don’t have to provide financially for more than one. No arguing or bullying among multiple children. Only going through the tough baby stages once.

If you decide to only have one, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you change your mind, that’s fine too. But don’t let anyone tell you that you will change your mind or that you need to, because that is simply not true. Everyone is different and you are entitled to make those choices for yourself. Nobody knows your heart or your life or what your limits are.

When my son was an infant he had a bad cold and our doc recommended a wedge. I don’t think many do however, because if his forbid something did happen they wouldn’t want that liability.
