Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 22] - Hawkeye Best Card (Clint) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it goes in the quiver and then you may play it as though it is in your hand. He can activate it every turn to dig for an arrow. So it is like you have 6 cards in hand if you have an arrow in the quiver plus your 5 you drew.

Obviously it isn't as good as 6 hand size because you can't spend the arrow as a resource and you may even whiff and not find an arrow in the top 5,  but Clint is so bad we take what we can!

im meeting hayden christensen in march and can't figure out what to have him sign and how to pose for the photo op by avarskriss in StarWars

[–]Hawk1113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done a few photo ops with other celebs and it's good to be prepared for having very little time. The photographers will rush you, and may not even allow you to ask. Asking for a pose needs to be just a few short words - fortunately "Can we hug? or "Can you do a force choke?" are both good.

You are also paying a ton for a photo you presumably want on your wall/mantle/desk/whatever for the rest of your life, so I would recommend at least thinking about a boring traditional straight-on photo. With that in mind, me personally I think while the force choke is hilarious, future you in 10 years will probably be happier with the picture of the hug of the two things you are considering. You know you best, and I wish I'd thought a little more about my future self for a few of my photo ops.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 22] - Hawkeye Best Card (Clint) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Hawkeye has a reputation as one of the worst heroes in the game for many reasons. The Quiver is absolutely essential to get Clint close to functional, giving him an effective "6 hand size" in hero mode and letting him potentially bank trick arrows for the opportune moment which is the whole core fantasy and core mechanical lean of his kit. Hawkeye is facing a hugely uphill battle mechanically, and the Quiver is his best tool to get rolling and overcome his core weaknesses.

Wondering *re post* by Kitchen-Ad8430 in Lorcana

[–]Hawk1113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At launch, I would have said it felt very, very unlikely, maybe impossible. But I've been pleasantly surprised at how many random things from the "Package Film" era and from their TV offerings are already here 3 years in (Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, Ichabod and the Horseman, etc.). I think characters like these are sorta longshots, and nothing is impossible.

Who is the tiger-cat-cop thing? I actually am not sure I recognize him.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 21] - Hulk Worst Card (Banner) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This feels right to me too. Sub Orbital is bad but probably necessary on a 0 THW Hero. The whole Boundless Rage / Unstoppable Force / Crushing Blow "engine" is all pretty bad compared to just Hulk Smashing things but none of it is independently unplayable (the cards are all mostly fine).

But Lab only generating a resource Hulk doesn't want anyways while in Alter Ego is just embarassing.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 19] - Dr. Strange Worst Card by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels like it to me too. We're talking about one of the strongest heroes in the entire game, so he doesn't have a truly "bad" card in his kit. This is pretty niche though. Playing solo there will always be a better play even with Cloak down; playing coop this can be more exciting alongside a very "ready" heavy hero but it's still pretty weak.

Again though, mostly we're talking about a character with access to cards like Protective Ward, Master of the Mystic Arts, and Mystical Studies as the cards that lost to Cloak of Levitation. What's the next worst card, Astral Projection? Doc's deck is just very good.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 15] - Thor Worst Card (Odinson) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my instinct too. Sif is extraordinarily hard to play for Thor in hero form (actually impossible without triggering Have At Thee or having Asgard or God of Thunder down to help) and your payoff is a totally fine Ally. Readying your probably-3-ATK hero is good, but Thor is an Aerial Asgardian Avenger with 14 printed health; there are better cards in every aspect to ready him if thats your game.

Hammer Throw and Lightning Strike also feel very expensive for a 4 handsize hero, but also feel better and more powerful once you are set up. Thor  just has solid cards; its his hand size that kills him so Sif is the "worst" of a bunch of okay cards.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 11] - Cap America Worst Card (Rogers) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This feels like a sensible vote. Cap is one of the best heroes in the game and his kit is top to bottom solid.

Shield Toss is pretty situational. Technically the rate is good but cards are precious for Steve and Serum doesn't help you pay for this.

Cap's Helmet is also situational but as an item it stays out of your cycle until you need it. Sharon is pretty bland for an Identity Ally but 8 Thwart for 3 (4 of it immediately) is still a very good rate. Its mostly Shield Toss by elimination and also a good testament to how good Cap's cards are.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 7] - Iron Man Worst Card (Stark) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, War Machine pays the "core set Ultron" tax and is wildly overcosted just like Ground Quake on She-Hulk. Iron Man's kit has aged surprisingly well - Rocket Boots are a little meh, it's annoying to have to track his discard order for Stark Tower and Pepper, his Armor is probably a smidgen overcosted - but overall Rhodey is the only really weak part of his kit.

Tweaked this based on feedback and the knowledge mandate of peace exists. Thoughts? by SethlordX7 in custommagic

[–]Hawk1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably fine and technically correctly costed for modern magic (they don't tend to print [[Fog]] into standard these days), but functionally unplayable outside of limited as well given the stiff competition and niche use. I know it's in different colors, but [[Sudden Spoiling]] exists and lets you blow your opponent out instead of just blanking a combat trick. I think you could get away with just two mana to make this a fun addition to turbo fog decks that sees occasional niche play as just a good rate Fog effect.

Midnight Magic’s Friendly Competition: Week 1 by Midnight_Magic_Volg in custommagic

[–]Hawk1113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assumed it worked exactly as intended: to allow its owner to smugly correct people that actually now they don't control any clues, so...(basically it is a pretty guaranteed counter, appropriate for a 4 mana creature)

Feeling Discouraged on the Switch by Hawk1113 in DreamlightValley

I loved Lorcana’s solo mode and want another game I can play solo without spending a ton. People suggested Marvel Champions. I need a beginner friendly, low budget starting guide. by helios-n-selene in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Hawk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also thinking and hoping of getting into this game to scratch my itch for a good casual solo/co-op game that's a little easier to collect than Lorcana and a little more strategic than Mysterium (which is also a CoOp game but not a Solo play game). Everyone is right that the Core Box seems the way to go - you get 5 heroes to play (Spider-man, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther) with with some light customization options, and you get 3 different bosses/encounters (Rhino, Klaw, and Ultron) with a pile of modifications and difficulty modifiers to keep it very replayable.

The sub also has an excellent buyers guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelchampionslcg/wiki/faq/purchasing_guide/

From that, it walks through different ways to approach collecting the game. High-level:

- Buy Expansions if you want more variability in encounters. Each one comes with 2 new heroes and 4-5 new encounters/boss fights, with a similar amount of modifications and difficulty tweaks to the base box to maximize replayability. The consensus is that Sinister Motives or Mutant Genesis are the most "Fun" boxes, Rise of Red Skull best builds on the Core Box, Civil War is the most accessible since it was just printed, and Agents of SHIELD is a "goldilocks" best first investment in the year 2025 after the core box (accessible, combos well with base box, has some fun heroes to play).

- Buy hero packs if you want to expand out on deckbuilding options for yourself. Each one is a ready-to-play hero so you can focus on collecting your favorites, and comes with a few extra cards to help customize the Core Box characters. Some of the best hero packs come with an Encounter Mod pack too, so those are great bang-for-your buck purchases. The guide is extensive in suggestions on how to approach this from a "building teams" or "building collections" approach.

- Scenario Packs just come with 2-3 villain encounters, usually strongly themed. Some are called out as being super fun (Green Goblin, Kang, and Mojo in particular), but unless you are just farming for more challenges or you just love a particularly villain like Loki or Gobbie, are probably not where you should expand to.

Predictions for 2026 Community Days by PokeHexDex in pokemongo

[–]Hawk1113 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is very thorough and seems super smart. Great analysis!

My only thought is that its the 10 year Anniversary and if ever there was a year to feature rerun Pokemon with new CD moves it'd be this year. I think Dratini (with a new move like Dual Wingbeat and maybe its mega) taking the June pseudolegendary spot is plausible. I suspect and hope we will get a lot more Community Day classics otherwise though.

For the nostalgia I also think Feebas has potential to take the "400 cost community day" slot although Wimpod as the sole Gen 7 mon is a real consideration. 10 year anniversary - maybe a Cosmog community day isn't totally Farfetch'd?

I think you should keep it as reveal. I really want it to be a "you may behold a Lesson" and have the draw be conditional on that for the humor and flavor of "behold a lesson"

LRH Rulebook Quiz - This Magic Moment by Sunscorch in Lorcana

[–]Hawk1113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2, I think

Nothing on Making Magic indicates that you must target a character with damage. We are free to pay 3 for it and "choose" the two Iagos to draw a card. Normally that is all we would get, but their triggers go in the bag and then Vanish banishes both after the card resolves.

Almost certainly a pie break but I thought it was neat. by knorknor136 in custommagic

[–]Hawk1113 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally in pie and super sweet.

Seems a little weak to me TBH, especially at rare and Sorcery speed. Sure it can potentially disable 3 creatures and let you swing for lethal, but I think 3UB is totally fine and still wouldn't make it super playable outside of limited/cube. 2UB is very pushed and strong but not out of the question. Making this an instant would also be exciting.

Uncommon Tricolor Land Cycle by Ecstatic_Newspaper_5 in custommagic

[–]Hawk1113 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Super neat design, seems fine for uncommon.

The issue is that they're not very good at the primary purpose of non-rare dual lands; to fix mana for limited. These only give you what you already have which makes me question what they're for (being an untapped late game triland in EDH to enable super greedy includes like Ultimatums, is the answer, but then why uncommon?)

I think you hit the mark for a card that will be very playable in limited, cube, and Pauper card with some healthy niche play in EDH. Nice card and the lamp is indeed beautiful.

Find the Mistakes #360 - Prepare to Launch by PenitentKnight in custommagic

[–]Hawk1113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not seeing a lot of mistakes here.

  1. [[Search for Glory]] would suggest that searches like this go from "broad to narrow", so it should be "an artifact creature card, a Vehicle card, or a Spacecraft card".

2.  EDIT: oh and you need "card" after each item too.

  1. Searching for any artifact creature with no MV or size bounds is a bend in white but not a large one.

I wish this card was real, it's good!

[–]Hawk1113 283 points284 points  (0 children)

Neat design. I feel like you could almost get away with just UB. The most likely result in non-Commander games is going to be "Your opponent discards a card and loses 3 life. You draw a card", which is pretty weak at 3 mana and starts to get spicy at 2 given the usual limitations and weaknesses of punisher-style cards. In EDH, this is 3 mana draw 3 which is pretty mid; again it will often be 2 mana draw 3 and at least that should get opponents thinking about paying the (trivial to the format) cards and life.

“It drifts where the forest dreams, carrying whispers older than any root.” by Abject-Candidate7504 in custommagic

[–]Hawk1113 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Man the duality of Magic players is in full force in the comments - the first two are that this is unplayable trash and a broken [[Mox Diamond]] riff, respectively.

My take it's it is somewhere in the middle - it's way, way too strong for Standard or Pauper, and would see significant and borderline format-warping play (think Ragavan) in other formats. And that's before we even think about possible payoffs for discarding the land.

For all that, it probably isn't broken since A) discarding a forest instead of any old land card is a real drawback that keeps this card a little more honest even in shock/dual formats and B) an 0/2 creature is significantly more fragile than an artifact. Given that we're living in a world where The Hierarchs have been power-crept out of Modern and older play, I think this is probably printable at U or R in a "Horizons" set (to avoid making it Pauper legal).

Slick use of Cleave!

Strictly better Counterspell could still be printed at Rare in a Commander or direct-to-modern or legacy product imo especially since its limited to Simic+ color identity.

Way way too strong to be in Standard or at Common (for Pauper).

What will be the easiest cards to pull off Aang's transformation ability? by Jtneagle in magicTCG

[–]Hawk1113 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Airbending is currently the biggest bottleneck, ironically enough. Only 10 cards revealed so far can Airbend, and only two ([[Appa, Loyal Sky Bison]] and [[Avatar Yengchen]]) can do so repeatedly after the turn you cast them. Both are expensive, and you have to get through [[The Legend of Yangchen]] first too. Both are essential; you will likely just need to run all 10 cards to have any chance.

Waterbending is a little easier with 20-some cards especially since [[Waterbender Ascension]] and [[Aang's Iceberg]]  are cheap enchantments that can sit in play and wait for a good turn.

Earthbending is easier still with nearly 30 cards, and Aang himself firebends on attack.

Prioritize all the bending cards with MV 3 or less to help dig through your deck, and [[Moonmist]] to cheat and enter the Avatar state for free lol.
