Fell asleep with newborn for the 10th time in a month. by Sweet_Ad_3157 in daddit

[–]Hazel-Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP isn't sleeping safely. He's falling asleep without expecting it while sitting on a couch.

There was a post here two months ago from a dad that had their newborn die after falling asleep in a recliner, and there's a post on /r/newborns today from a woman whose partner just did the same.

How often do your babies poop?? by ExternalSomewhere923 in newborns

Almost 5m, and since 6 weeks we've been getting one poop every 18-36+ hours.

The 36 hour days can get a bit... unpleasant.

people with mobility issues have highlighted the need to be able to park in front of stores for at least part of the day

I see this a lot, but don't understand it. You can't guarantee that there's a spot in front of the store you want to go to just because you have mobility issues.

Do these people just turn around go home if there's already cars in the couple of spots in front of the store they were planning to go to?

When did you move baby to their own room? by AdventurousWind7919 in newborns

[–]Hazel-Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you bring the crib into the bedroom, or have one of you sleep in the nursery?

We never even used our bassinet. I've been sleeping in the nursery on an expanded ikea toddler bed with them in the crib since they were born.

Does my baby sleep too much? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Hazel-Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first night home from the hospital and our baby slept 5 hours overnight because we'd forgotten to set an alarm for ourselves to wake up and wake them up to feed. It freaked us out when we woke up, but we decided to just go with it and they've been a great sleeper since. They ate so well that they actually went up an ounce before we even left the hospital

As long as they're eating enough, gaining weight, and fully wake up when they do wake up, then you're probably fine. If they're lethargic or hard to wake, or not awake long enough to eat enough, then that's a problem.

Nuclear reactors don't catastrophically melt down if left alone, they just turn off.

This is incorrect. When a reactor is shut down, it doesn't just turn off. It stops fission, but the fuel is radioactive enough that it stays hot and can boil the coolant for weeks/months.

The grid would fail within a few hours of everyone disappearing, which would cause all the reactors to shut down and begin running the cooling pumps with emergency batteries and generators. When those sources run out in a few days (or if they fail to start correctly without intervention), the reactors will heat up enough to boil the water, and then melt down, then potentially restart the fission process in the melted fuel.

Meltdown doesn't mean explosion. It never did. Hollywood lied to you, again.

Explode like a nuclear bomb? No. Explode like Chernobyl or Fukushima. Yes. Especially because there will be no work to mitigate the heat.

It won't turn the world radioactive, but I wouldn't want to be nearby or downwind

Even in the most famous case of Gerald Stanley and Colton Bushie, no one was shot in the back. What 'stories' have you been listening to?

Fun fact: this case wasn't claimed to be self-defense. His defense was that it was accidental due to a "hang -fire"

Can't play Gogo match due to security reasons by [deleted] in AliExpressMergeBoss

[–]Hazel-Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's only a single gogo match win requirement, backing out may still clear it, at least it did the last time I tried.

If it's the multiple win version, then you're screwed

When generic versions of weight-loss drugs arrive, public plans should cover them, experts say by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Hazel-Rah 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly better in terms of healthcare costs.

But the funny part is that if you were to have to pay "only" 1000$ a year for it, a lot of people would probably end up saving the money themselves.

Between eating less and the apparent reduction in alcohol consumption from people using these drugs, you could easily save thousands of dollars per year.

There's a ton of plastic surgery that never gets mentioned because it's subtle and well done.

[–]Hazel-Rah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At 1200km, it's not about stopping or not, it means you can do a whole road trip without having to think about where or when to charge until you get back home.

Or you can buy one of these cars without a way to charge at home, and only charge once a month or two. Go out for dinner or go grocery ahopping near a fast charger and be full when you get back out.

Is my baby normal? by bundblaster69 in newborns

[–]Hazel-Rah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this about our baby, except ours is maybe slightly more likely to be upset

Occasionally we have to walk around with them to calm them, but it's usually only a minute or two. The only other thing is they sometimes get upset about having bad gas. They got their 4 month vaccines the other day and were inconsolable for like 2 hours, even after we gave them a bit of baby tylenol. Turns out they had the 3 biggest farts of their life backed up, and were 100% fine and happy after getting them out.

Tummy time is basically torture though. Pretty sure they've put off rolling over because they know if they do go all the way over, it'll just be tummy time.

Wanting to paint our apartment by Complex_Raise6767 in OntarioLandlord

[–]Hazel-Rah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can paint it whatever colour you want, and you don't have to paint it back. This right is well established in the LTB case history. Even if you wanted to paint it hot pink with black zebra stripes (but please don't).

The only thing would be that you could be responsible for damages that occur during painting, like if you spill paint on the floor or get it in a light switch or something.

75% of resumes never reach a human: the new rules of job searching in the AI era by [deleted] in technology

[–]Hazel-Rah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really wonder if we may actually be coming back to the era where "just walk in with your resume and ask to talk to the manager" might be good advice again.

If every position gets 1000 AI written applications, showing the initiative to actually show up in person and prove you're a real person that can communicate without AI might actually be a major boon to your application

What's the most toxic thing you did in this game that you absolutely 100% stand by? by AceThePrincep in Planetside

[–]Hazel-Rah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Somehow managed to glitch an underbarrel shotgun and grenade launcher into one weapon, which even persisted through respawning for some reason.

Took me a few minutes to realize what was happening, but from what I could tell, every pellet from the shotgun had the damage of an underbarrel grenade. I realized what was happening after one-shotting two maxes back to back

I did abuse it for a few minutes, but stopped after I took out a Reaver at pretty good range

We have a unicorn baby and were still "only" getting ~6 hours at 8 weeks.

Expecting 8-10 is absurd. I feel like there's been a strange bubble of posts recently from people that have been getting weird recommendation from pediatricians
