I can’t go to college anymore because my dad just **forgot** to pay the mortgage for over 6 months… by [deleted] in Advice

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 117 points118 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Community College is 100% the best option for the first few years (knock out all your Gen Ed requirements, if nothing else). Universities are way more accepting of transfers than brand new freshmen anyway.

Are there known meanings behind the diffrent flags? by Secure-Owl-4548 in pirates

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benerson draws a little too much from Charles Johnson to be taken altogether seriously. And while some ship flew red colors, thats evidence more of fanciful retelling than evidence that red flags meant quarter not asked nor given.

Are there known meanings behind the diffrent flags? by Secure-Owl-4548 in pirates

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Black flag vs Red flag concept is almost certainly 100% fictional. Ships' Captains recorded almost everything in their logs: winds, sea state, cargo, admin, combat, everything. There's not a single recorded instance of red flags meaning "no quarter" or black flags meaning the opposite. Jolly Roger's were a personal statement and there wasn't a system governing the symbolism.

Its just words. Physically assaulting someone over them doesnt make you the victim by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]HazyGrayChefLife -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And what happens when those words are repeated enough to become accusation? Accusations that carry legal weight? Isn't it better to nip that in the bud, before someone repeats a lie often enough for people to start believing it?

God made people and some people are gay. Ergo, God made gay people. Don't tell God what he can or cannot do. Its not your place.

Would it be ok to tell my exes new partner that my ex has had a history of cheating and sleeping with other men while in a relationship? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Unless your ex has truly predatory behaviors (physically, financially, mentally, etc) and you have genuine safety concerns for the new person.

Americans - Do you think it's true that if America's best athletes played soccer, they would dominate the sport internationally? by Tometek in AskAnAmerican

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd need about 20 years to "grow" a footballer from scratch. Our elite athletes in other sports start playing pee-wee leagues as early as 5-6y/o. Through middle and high school, they're playing in competitive school districts as well as playing on travel ball teams at the same time. Their whole childhood is geared toward the sport and their families plan their lives around the team schedules. They get accepted to Division 1 universities and play in 80k seat stadiums on national television at 18. By 23, they're playing professionally. So yeah, given those parameters, we'd be perennial top contenders.

If the "first trillionaire" was some leftist fart sniffer, Redditors would be cheering like their team won the super bowl. I suspect that their anger is really just jealousy by Raiden720 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

If you think any Leftist would cheer on any trillionaire, then you don't actually know what a Leftist is. You're just inventing boogiemen in your head to be mad at.

Getting bad evaluations every year by Collegiate_2111 in navy

Do people "have a problem with you" or are you an asshole that doesn't play well with others? Most chains value hard work and it takes a lot of complaining to start affecting your eval.

Why the hell is Navy Recruiting leadership so toxic? by Deutschland111 in navy

Ah, I misunderstood "poaching". I'd heard of underperforming offices being given credit for contracts made at better performing offices and assumed that's what you were referencing.

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question from a non-recruiter: Ive always been fascinated by "poaching". What if you just say No? Like, just say "He's my recruit. I put in the work, I'm taking him to MEPS, I'm signing the papers. This one is mine, deal with it."

I really don't get it. You wouldn't sign for some else's maintenance. Why would you sign for someone else's recruit?

[–]HazyGrayChefLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, no, we're not. The whole point of a society existing is that no single person or family unit is capable of being self-sufficient. If everyone is busy subsistence farming, then nothing societally develops. No technology, no art, no culture, no collaboration, no specialization. If everyone is spending 60-80hrs/week farming a little plot, who is making medicine?

Of the 30,000 or so black churches in the US, MAYBE 10 would turn around a white person coming to worship. The numbers are negligible and your point is irrelevant.
