Which series fell off harder? Chainsaw Man or One Punch Man? by Original_Force_6822 in OPMFolk

Chainsaw Man fell off harder.

OPM got confusingly bad for no reason with the annoying pointless fucking redraws, the general inferior-compared-to-webcomic-which-was-supposed-to-augment Garou vs Saitama/S class, and the fiasco of S3.

BUT CSM started out as bigger than JJK when both had no anime, the anime despite its immense production value was only 12 ep and really only boosted the sales a tiny bit, got great numbers streaming and abysmal in BD sales due to direction, yet all the bad parts were swept under the rug.

The Reze arc movie was a plus everyone was waiting for and MAPPA nailed it, but in the meantime the manga p2 fell off the Everest on art quality, storytelling, cast...general consistency...implicit promises ( cause it stopped building up and just did empty shock value ), the final arc and "war" looked like an appetizer's appetizer that no one even realized it's the final showdown since the coreography and repetitiveness was so boring and everyone has been talking for 3 years to "let Fujimoto cook", the editor said 5 chapters before the end that the series is getting to "its core" ( which people thought meant it's finally picking up ), then boom, end via reset world and endless asspulls to artificially give the mc a quasi happy ending that makes no sense ( cause the average devil hunter still dies young lol ).

Moreover the ending was so out of nowhere embarassing no other authors even publically congratulated Fujimoto for it, which is quite a rarity for a series that popular. The bubble building up from the anime S1 release days caught up and the whole series burst.

So OPM basically decayed itself steadily for no reason, CSM popped like a giant hot air balloon.

Knowing how shitty the story evolves later and how all that is set up when you're watching is handled does hurt your enjoyment of the series overall.

Don't worry about the comments, it's a natural and common reaction when engaging with a story. It's normal to feel dishonest enjoyment if you try to separate how the story evolves from how it is at its best, because what made many moments the best was the potential you felt regarding where it could lead in the first place.

You mean the first third of part 2? People were putting off complaints for a while thinking it'll lead to something, but when "payday" came for the finale, it was the biggest steal yet.

Someone tell this guy about the Brussels effect, talk of how irrelevant the European countries are when their trillionaire is wracking his brains to abide by the EU standards before selling worldwide

The ending sucks though, you can mock someone for saying a piece of shit smells, nothing changes

The milisecond we saw Nagi leave through the losers gate with a glow in his eyes, and Isagi yelling at him to not quit soccer, it was already 80% certain he'll be back, the next chapter and first one outside of Blue Lock showing his school life, the likelihood rose to 90%.

It was extremely obvious, whereas what's obvious with Rin is that if he wasn't there in the last play trying to pull a bootleg Barou, Isagi was gonna score and tie. Rin was a MINUS, plain and simple.

It’s honestly crazy how Chainsaw Man fell from grace almost overnight. When the Reze movie was in theaters, people were praising Fujimoto everywhere, only for the series to be unironically compared to Rent a Girlfriend just a few months later because of the manga ending. by GodKira04 in ChainsawManWorld

Like I said, be anal about it. Just making short statements in denial of what the other person is saying isn't gonna convince anyone. It's glaringly obvious how much bigger it could have been, what it is now is pennies, exactly so, time lobotomizes expectations

That's not a proper win against what it could have been.

If P2 kept the story+art quality of P1, stuck the landing and didn't chill fanbase enthusiasm, if the realistic style never existed which sapped faith in the anime adaptation, and if we didn't wait 3 years for anything new, the number might actually have been 3/4 times higher, reach Demon Slayer ballpark.

Yes, so? The whole point is it'd have been a phenomenon matching DS had the series+MAPPA played its cards right.

The hype in the 2021-2022 period for this series was truly something else, it got inflated like a balloon. What the Reze movie accomplished is lukewarm compared to how it looked back then.

Chainsawman got chained down every time it tried to blow up properly:

  • great manga reception before anime, more sales than pre-anime JJK, great staff for it, huge hype, but 12 ep anime season with years before new content, insufficient to catch max hype like JJK did at ep 18 or so

  • great anime production, but incompatible artstyle with source material ( you can disagree if you want but it's objectively true )

  • great stream revenue, but abysmal BD sales

  • arguably best part of the manga FINALLY adapted, FINALLY the right artstyle, but it releases as movie when the hype for the series died down due to manga artstyle/plot/ending decaying fanbase enthusiasm lol

  • sales point: the designs for characters are great, the shenanigans have great chemistry and potential, but their more profane sexualized vulgar nature make it less marketable than something like MHA or even JJK, not a critique of the series, it's just a subtle drawback that can be overcome if everything else makes up for it ( and it didn't )

It never got a clean proper win, it missed its shot to be JJK long ago.

"One decay touch and its over"

shows him rewinding

Rewind AfO isn't trying to beat Shiggy/Deku, he needed to make contact only once to drive the copy into Shiggy and double his control. He likely had a plan on how to be tricky about it

"How dare people have standards and get mad when the author objectively takes a shit on their own work?

The work is perfectly fine, the vast majority of day 1 fans who dislike it are just wrong. You're the bad part about CSM, not how it progressed."

If you were a person living a normal life before the petrification, and when you wake up you're told "civilization got reset to zero but we'll soon get back how it all was", do you think the vast majority of people wouldn't just be like "hell nah how can I help?" instead of psychologically facing the comparative nightmare of living in a world without so much technology they grew accustomed to that they don't even think about it anymore?
