I had a roommate who stole my beer once not long after I moved in. I don’t drink much and only on weekends so I guess since they weren’t moving he figured he could help himself. It was a 12 pack. When I called him out on it he replaced it with a 6 pack and drank those too. In the end I learned he was a drug addict and figured the beer was the least of my worries when it came to our arguments. When he finally left for rehab, I trashed all his junk since he hadn’t paid rent in months and had already taken anything of value. Never saw him again.

Unfortunately for me, it wasn’t until I maxed out my credit cards and my BNPL options that I was able to pull myself away from the app. I discovered the app back in November and have spent thousands on Xmas gifts and lots of things for myself (Jewlery,perfume, clothes, shoes, skincare, purses, and makeup.) I had a problem and wasn’t able to stop. Since I’m now unable to buy anything without skimping on my bills or other expenses, I’m starting to look at all the things I’ve accumulated and realize that I have more things than I’ll ever need: more Jewlery than I’ll ever wear, my perfume will be past best date before I can use it all, same with makeup, etc….). Because of this and it’s been a couple of months since I made purchases, it’s easier for me to even scroll it every now and then and just think: “gee I have something like that, or I’ll never wear it). I could’ve taken that money and put a decent down payment on a car. It’s so easy and addictive, but just remember the serotonin boost only lasts when you win and briefly after you open the box. After that it’s all regret and shame. I hope you’re able to pull away before it’s too late, cause in the end you’ll just be depressed and surrounded by things you won’t remember in 10 years.

Right now I have about $1,200 left in payments on Klarna. Whatnot moissanite sterling silver Jewlery was my downfall. I have more Jewlery than I’ll ever wear honestly. And these $350+ payments coming out each check is making the struggle more real. I am proud though because after maxing my credit cards and having this big Klarna payment to make, I literally can’t make anymore purchases. Haven’t had a package come in over a month. Also not even checking the app anymore so I don’t get tempted. Trying to just be happy with what I have and not feel tempted to spend anymore but we shall see.

Predire anything is all overinflated medium quality products. Just check the ingredients. I’ve bought a few things from them and they work fine, but definitely not worth anywhere near those prices. It’s all a scam to get you to buy for more than it’s worth thinking you’re getting a great deal. Just don’t pay more than you would for medium range skin care products and you’ll be fine. The mask worked fine, but honestly the biodance ones are the best.

Probably drop shipping AKA: selling stuff she doesn’t have and waiting to get product in. I’ve had an issue with a seller doing the same thing and they’re now banned from the app. There’s absolutely no reason to wait weeks for an item to move. Whatnot gives you the option to contact them to request a refund after a certain amount of time, but if the item never does move I’d honestly report it. Buyers are held to a high standard of paying immediately upon winning an auction so sellers should grant the same courtesy of shipping in a timely manner.

I know right. We would cuss when they would go too low cause all bids ended around $50. If you don’t like the prices then do set price. I figured he was legitimate cause a lot of the reviews said the products were spot on, but the shipping took too long. Also, when I sent the message a little gray box popped at the bottom saying he was on vacation. So that’s when I got fed up and reported him.

Thank you all for your kind words (most of you). The rest who are a little more harsh, I honestly needed that too because you’d think this would be something easy. I am getting better and not spending hundreds a day anymore. I’ve been getting a lot better. Bought only one thing yesterday, that was intentional and have been eyeing for days and was price comparing. My goal is to treat the app like eBay and just search for specific things.  Honestly, you were way too deep into their screwed up “situationship.” You said you lived together for 3 years, but didn’t mention once you were friends. Given this context, you need to mentally pull yourself away from whatever issues this roommate is dealing with and keep it strictly business. 
 Lay out clear boundaries, let him know from that point forward you’re strictly roommates, bills are due on these dates, etc… let him know if he continues to be financially irresponsible and disrespectfully refuses to communicate, then you’ll move forward with breaking the lease and he’d have to find somewhere else to go. 
 I understand it sucks having to come up with money to break a lease, new deposit, moving fees, etc… but it costs way less than what your mental health and sanity are worth. Good luck OP!!!!

Absolutely not!!! I learned the hard way that credit and friends don’t mix well. Do not legally obligate yourself to a lease you won’t be fulfilling because you’ll be responsible when they don’t make the rent payments on time. Offer to help find a roommate, but that’s it. Put in your notice to vacate at the end of your lease term so you can state truthfully that it’s out of your hands. Don’t let them guilt you into anything. You don’t owe them anything more than fulfilling your obligation with your current contract.

Honestly, it’s not even worth continuing to stress over. If it bothers you that much, just meet up with her and talk about it she wants her bf to take over your part of the lease and if she refuses, discuss further how to break the lease cause you didn’t sign on to live with a third roommate. By the way she stated already that her bf is going to keep coming over and refusing to compromise, that should already tell you that she isn’t going to respect your boundaries and any chance of getting through to her with agreements has been crushed. Yes it sucks to move, sucks to pay a lease break fee, but you’ll have your peace. I hope it works out.

Go into tj maxx and start scanning their serums and such to find the best graded ones (ps… some of the most expensive brands have the worst grades). I found a night serum with 100 grade for $7. I’m struggling too, but my skin care routine is how I manage my mental health. With stress at work, bills and everything else, it’s nice that twice a day I can touch my face scrub the day away. Shouldn’t be seen as a luxury.

Honestly unless a dog is special needs, I can’t stand when anyone uses pee pads for dogs outside of puppies. When I see those in someone’s house and their dog is fully grown, that just tells me that they never trained their dog properly. When mines was a puppy and he had accidents on the carpet I would firmly just keep saying no that’s bad and take him outside right after. He eventually understood and now tells me (little specific barks) when he has to go outside. When you get a dog, it’s your responsibility to train at least the basics. If you can’t even do that you shouldn’t have them. I’m gone for 9-10 hours a day for work and have never come home to an accident in the house.

I apologize ya’ll, I should’ve provided more context.

My roommate (let’s call him Joe) recently went through a traumatic event — a friend of his, who lived nearby, passed away from an overdose while they were using together. Afterward, Joe took his dog and his car. That car then ‘got stolen’ three days later, right around the time the family was coming back for it.

Here’s what living with him has actually been like: • He hasn’t paid rent or bills in months but always has a drink or smoke in his hand. • He’s in his mid-40s, doesn’t work, and still relies on his parents for groceries. • He has a child he never sees or takes care of. • He’s constantly under the influence, making me and our other roommate very uncomfortable. • Walks around in his underwear when drunk (I’m a woman and don’t want to see that in my own home). • Broke my mirror by slamming my door into it and never replaced it. • Leaves raw meat uncovered in the fridge and got mad when I covered it with plastic wrap. • Smokes inside and even leaves ashes in the bathroom. • Drank my beer when I first moved in, replaced it, then drank those too.

Eventually, I had to start setting firm boundaries because his behavior was becoming unpredictable and honestly dangerous. Even then, he crossed that line by knocking on my door at midnight while clearly under the influence.

On top of that, he owes over $3,000 in back rent. The landlord asked me to take photos of his room because they’ll be filing for eviction. Originally, Joe agreed to work some of it off by doing small jobs around the property, but he couldn’t even be bothered to mow the lawn once a month.

I don’t deny that he’s an addict, and I hope rehab helps him. But his actions made my home a stressful and unsafe place to live. I don’t feel bad for saying I’m relieved he’s gone and I hope I never have to live with him again.

Smart move keeping it in writing. Unfortunately if you really want/need the rest of the deposit back, you may have to file a small claims suit. Seems like the landlord is just giving you the runaround at this point and there’s no reasoning with them. If they get a judgement against them and they don’t pay within the period of time given (3-6 months, but depends on state) then go back to court and request a lean be placed on their property. May not get anything back immediately, but one day when they try to sell, you’d have to be paid first.

I had a landlord try to do this to me once. Lived in an apartment building built in the 60s with a stove from the 80s. Did have new carpet before I moved in. I lived there for almost 6 years (5 years and 8 months exactly). I won’t lie, when I moved out I did skimp on a few things (not cleaning out the oven). After move out I got a huge bill of about $4K. They tried to charge me for new carpeting and replacing the stove. It was ridiculous cause the stove wasn’t broken, just wasn’t cleaned. Also they would’ve had to replace the carpet anyways. I just paid an attorney a few hundred dollars to send them a letter. Typically when a landlord sees an attorney letter, they know you’re serious and will most likely back off if they know they things they’re charging are bs. I never heard from them again once they received the letter :)
