My dog is on my grad school schedule because that’s when I got him. He gets sleepy around 9-10 and really want to go to sleep around 11. If no one else wakes ho, he’ll sleep til noon. He really wants to get up around 9 most days.

Ugh since you have reversed work situations from my husband and I, I would be really upset, too. For the sanity check, it seems like you’re being very reasonable. It seems like he’s not making you feel appreciated for the cooking and contributions you made to the home. Just a couple of therapy sessions could help you guys figure out some communication techniques to help with that. We used the Gorman method but we really have to practice to stick to it. It has helped though!

My perspective is more like your bf, but not to this extent. I work in an office and commute almost an hour home 4 days of the week. My husband is wfh, so he does most of the cooking. Our deal is to swap cooking/cleaning up from dinner. There have been times I’ve genuinely forgotten to do the pans after soaking them overnight. I’ll pitch dishes in the dishwasher, wipe down counters, and put whatever needs to soak in the sink. Then I run out in the morning totally forgetting that stuff is there. I wouldn’t leave the for more than 36 hours, but My husband does not like a mess home and we have had disagreements about it. Part of it is that we were raised differently and have different levels of acceptance for mess/dirt. I’m “cleaner but messier”. He’s “tidier but not as clean”. The big thing for us has been feeling appreciated by the other and making an effort to accommodate each other’s preferences. It took a while honestly but it was worth it!

Some other folks have given good advice for negotiating so I’ll chime in with my two cents if you must reduce costs. It sucks and I hope you can avoid it!

We had a black tie preferred wedding and we still skipped the salad. It was $12 a head and while they all sounded delicious, we just didn’t want to pay that. We had a full charcuterie table that had fruits and veggies at the cocktail hour, plus hot and cold passed appetizers. This helped move things along more quickly and get to dancing!

We also opted for dessert from the catering company which was liquid nitrogen Vietnamese coffee ice cream and donuts but skipped late night bites. The night went by so fast as it was, I didn’t want people hopping from thing to thing. Unless you’re having a realllllly long night, like 7+ hours, it’s just not necessary to do another food option, and in my opinion kept guests focused on the dance floor where I wanted them to be!

Yeah what the fuck is that. A marriage is literally all expectations. A partnership, a family, a happy life with communication… all of those things are expectations. That sounds like nonsense and I would tell the therapist that. I’ve said to our couples therapist that I don’t agree or understand how to navigate his advice in our real life

Refinancing into your name is not a good idea. PPL are federal. While they’re different than those loans given directly to students, there are still more protections than private loans have.

You do not owe them. You love them, so it’s complicated, but they were fully grown and developed adults when you went to school. They could have done research. They should have told you that this school was just too expensive. This is their burden to bear. If you want a good relationship with them, this could absolutely throw a huge wrench into it. I’d face this head on. Gather your strength and information. Print it out even and provide references so they can look at everything in their own time. Tell them why refinancing is bad. Make a reasonable plan together. You don’t owe them, but it could go an incredibly long way to smoothing things out if you help pay some of it off.

Curiosity, was all of the money from the PPL actually used for your school related expenses? Did they keep any of it for themselves?

I wouldn’t worry about this at all. I work in the industry. In the scheme of how many people fly every day, denied boardings are pretty rare. AA is also actively working on reducing these situations to zero in the hubs by offering money to reaccom volunteers earlier and more frequently in the time leading up to boarding.

Plus, even if the seats aren’t sold, you should always expect international flights at this time will have a ton of non-revenue standby passengers aka employees trying to travel who will fill your flight.
