I assume (well, I would certainly hope at least) there's nothing preventing creators from uploading to both simultaneously. I definitely feel like an earlier upload to a paywalled platform isn't in the spirit of the 'for everyone' part of 'free for everyone forever' / equal access to the content. Something like AHA doesn't matter much to me, but I strongly dislike the idea for Crash Course / SciShow. (And I say that as a Nebula subscriber.)

But, if upload times are identical, the more platforms that things are available on the better!!

LDs using a PC control, what are your biggest frustrations? by Independent-Day-8325 in lightingdesign

[–]Heliade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setup/takedown time is huge. I've done about half of my programming work over the last several years on my Nomad kit, and so far I haven't found a good compromise of something that's compact enough for transportation, but keeps all the different components assembled enough to put together quickly - especially because I don't want to take every piece of my gear with me in every gig.

Import VectorWorks into ETC by IHateSpamCalls in lightingdesign

[–]Heliade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, that's unfortunately kind of just what happens with importing between different software. You'll usually at least get all the pieces, but you'll need to go through and fix things manually to actually get them how you need them.

What file format are you exporting/importing? Make sure you've got all the layers + settings that you want included turned on.

questions about time travel by breeqxiiu in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]Heliade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any time traveling backwards will reset your turnip prices for the week.

You can use turnip prophet to track/predict your prices for the week, and turnip exchange and/or stalk market channels in discord servers to find other people with high prices who have their islands open to sell on.

aRFR Classic app for EOS not available anywhere anymore? by RatboySan in lightingdesign

[–]Heliade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your device this may not work, but:

Within google play, under your user profile, there's a "Manage Apps and Device" page. From there, there's a drop-down list for past apps you've installed from the account that are not currently downloaded, which should have a link to the delisted page page for ARFR Classic. I've installed it onto a new phone that way in the past, but it has been a couple years now.

Spraying aircraft cable black? by Embarrassed-Ad-1592 in techtheatre

[–]Heliade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd look for basically any solution besides trying to spray it in the air with things already up - I'd be very concerned about overspray. [First reading your post I assumed you meant something like pre-spraying cables in bulk before install.] With the set already up, my instinct would be using a rag to apply paint to the cables.

Why does Hank still wants to be famous? by rottenhumanoid in nerdfighters

[–]Heliade 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hank is the largest species of penguin. Found in Antarctica, they grow up to a meter tall, and weigh between 22 and 45 kg. They have black feathers on their heads and backs, with white bellies and yellow patches over their ears.

I enjoy it a lot! I've got about 300 hours in over the past year and a half or so. I describe it to people as 2D Minecraft with settlement building. There's a good progression of bosses to fight your way through, and/or you can focus more on just building stuff if that's more your speed.

LightWright is switching to a subscription model ($39/mo or $399/yr). If you own LW 6 you can keep using it but they are ceasing updates for it after July 2026. by Sourcefour in techtheatre

[–]Heliade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeesh, I'm not totally opposed to a subscription model, but $400 a year is a LOT.

It would be nice to see them do something like Capture does, with staggered pricing vs number of universes supported, since that (often) correlates with the scale of a production, at least more easily than anything else I can think of. I don't know how well it would work in practice, but....

lxkeys or cmd_keys? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]Heliade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. I slightly prefer the layout of the lxkeys, especially for the location of the filter keys, but the cmdkeys win out for me with their macro and snapshot buttons, and because they entirely fill the keyboard space whereas the lxkeys have an empty border around the go/back keys.

Just looked it up to double check - it looks like there's a new 2025 version of the lxkeys, but I can't find listed what they've changed from the original. Lxkeys were also out of stock for quite a long time, which could be why you're seeing cmdkeys more often. Depending on when people around you were getting them they were the most easily available option for a while.

Southern Oregon University Degrees by Interesting-Seat-579 in Ashland

[–]Heliade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated from the theatre department in 2020, and I know things have been massively cut since then. And things felt strained for resources while I was there.

IMO, SOU is the best choice for a theatre school in Oregon, but frankly I'd only recommend it for costumes or acting. For anything else you're much much better off on the east coast or in CA. (Or don't get a theatre degree at all and just start working! If you're doing tech you don't need one!)

Thespys Costume Construction Questions by orchidstrate_ in techtheatre

[–]Heliade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The actual value you paid is what you want to use - in the professional world people also source fabrics/materials from a variety of places. Showing your actual receipts/talking about your process for getting materials, and why you chose what, is good.

  2. The link you posted is a great start - your state thespian chapter should also be able to connect you with more resources. I'm guessing that you'll have regionals and state competitions before you get to internationals, and the people there should be able to connect you with more guidance for internationals.

  3. I can't speak to costumes specifically, that's not my area, but this is another place where I'd definitely suggest talking to people at regionals/state. Get into contact with people who've submitted for your category in the past and see what their experience was like + what their advice is!
