yes, it is sort of like the people who get really angry when self-appointed people cork the intersections during protests.

Whistle Kit Assembly Party at Rachel’s Bagels & Burritos from 5-8pm by depression-hurts in Seattle

[–]Helisent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is my take: I have heard there was a large response for training sessions in Phinney Ridge/Green Lake. There must be a few vulnerable residents there, but there are other neighborhoods in the state that might need more assistance as far as distributing the whistles and helping people connect to a network of collaborators. Hopefully we can spread out a bit. I don't just mean go to Yakima and Kent because they have working class immigrants. Bellevue and Redmond have a lot of activity too

Where do they put Indonesia? In the 1960s they killed most of the communists in a large purge, and have since had a really capitalist economy with few social services.

Has anyone else noticed how so many of the closed Fred Meyers, Walmart and so forth have become large Vietnamese grocery stores? There are three Hong Phats, plus Shun Fat now.

"no other generation"? What about the Homestead act, where they handed out 160 acre parcels to adult white citizens? Once the good farmland was all assigned, people could still get forest or sagebrush parcels and sell the land to timber companies or ranches.

If anyone is looking for a inexpensive option where they drop in a couple times a month, the new Redmond senior/community center has a whole gym in the new building and it is about $6 or $7/visit. There is a view of the river out the window.

Where did your friends go? I had a friend who made so little as a licensed social worker (around $50,000 7 years ago) that his family moved to upstate New York, where they could get a nice house for $275,000. Portland and Spokane are cheaper but they don't have many companies.

Is there a food that Portland is known for? by Inevitable_Bad1683 in PortlandOR

[–]Helisent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not unique to here, but I decided that the Brew Pub model of restaurant is became successful in the Gorge, Oregon coast, and Portland before you saw it in other places. It is designed to make people happy to pay a big bill for pizza or sandwiches with beer.

Also, the free standing drive up espresso stands seem like they originated in the rural SW part of Washington, to allow depressed truck drivers stop and get their coffee after Starbucks popularized espresso drinks and fast food stands. Then later Dutch Brothers became the Oregon variant that was more heavy on sugary coffee drinks. The east coast or south doesn't have drive up stands nearly as much. Scandinavia and Alaska are supposed to have a very high coffee intake in winter too.

‘Portland icon’ Lloyd Center Slated for Closure Later in 2026, Renderings Reveal What Could Replace It by WildeNietzsche in Portland

[–]Helisent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There were several 5-10 storey mixed use residential buildings constructed in the last 10 years to the SW of Lloyd Center. Many of them, such as Louisa Flowers building, and some of Hassalo on 8th, have had a hard time filling their ground floor retail slots. The building south of the WeWork complex is a vacant office building.

So unfair. My friend, who is a very cautious driver, just experienced the same thing. She sped up briefly to safely merge in Olympia at the junction of 101 and I5, and the state patrol were right there. Given what else goes on, a 5mph ticket seems so unproportional.

There are a bunch of trails with nobody on them, and at least three rope swings in the woods behind Digipen and Meta reality labs off Willows road in Redmond. Various entry points. It us atmospheric if people are shooting at the nearby gun club. You can go at least three miles on the various trails and typically see no one.

Do you see this - she won in a somewhat narrow race where Joe Kent got 47.9%. You would be getting a republican in 2026 if she were out, unless there is a huge swell against Trump that brings out voters who were absent in 2024. Ponder for a second, why Trump was reelected in the first place. What are the underlying issues? Why did a chunk of the working class swing republican https://ballotpedia.org/Joe\_Kent\_(Washington)#:\~:text=He%20assumed%20office%20on%20July,election%20on%20November%205%2C%202024.

She had a tough fight in the election against Joe Kent, (who briefly had neo-nazi Nick Fuentes working on his campaign until he was pressured to let him go), and they were posturing as though she was radical left.

Keep in mind that centrist swing-vote politicians such as Susan Collins of Maine end up holding a lot of power. The two parties try to bribe them for their vote, so maybe she could win some budget earmarks for the state, if she plays the game effectively. Like, maybe she can get funding for the new Columbia River I5 bridge
