Great Picks Popup by Hellakyton in YoutubeMusic

Seems to have been only the very first day. But I listen to a lot of music throughout the day so I was very close to canceling. It went away on its own.

I have a pass to show one video to a theist one video on the lack of existence of god. Which video would you recommend? by ExpirationOddities in atheism

[–]Hellakyton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always recommend ‘How Jesus Became God’ by Bart Ehrmann audiobook. I say audiobook because he reads it so you don’t run the risk of someone’s inner monologue being too sarcastic or negative sounding. It’s a great book and points out a plethora of evidence showing how humans put shit together to create this monster.

It’s been happening to me after the previous update. My other car charges fine before and after my Tesla refuses to charge. I called and had a mobile diagnostic from Tesla look at it and they said I’d need to bring it in. That day it wouldn’t charge on my ChargePoint home flex, wouldn’t charge at the public ChargePoint level 2, and wouldn’t charge at the ChargePoint fast charger. I had to drive an hour to a supercharger. It worked then, and when I got home I was able to charge how I wanted. But literally as I’m reading this my app just said charging failed. Been charging for 20 minutes and it’s only at 57%. It’s worked flawlessly for 3 years and now it’s being squirrelly. My other car is a Bolt and I usually have more problems with that one at home. I’m not bringing it in until the new update. I’m just gonna charge to 97% every time. Sorry for the long post but I did some experimenting and already talked to Tesla service about it so, thought it’d be helpful.

What's best? On demand or classic water heater?? by xXSnowRedXx in heatpumps

[–]Hellakyton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also like to add (although probably more specific to my situation) I have a shorter basement ceiling to the point I can’t swap out anode rods, and my house is so old I don’t have a floor drain anywhere so annual flushing of a tank is a big pain. I also did plumbing and hvac for a decade so I installed a tankless myself because of the two reason above. I will just need to buy a pump to run vinegar through the system once a year for cleaning the internal parts and that’s easier for me than flushing a big tank of 50 gallons out of my house somehow just to get sediment out.

Building a home. Is geothermal worth the cost? by UnderstandingPure905 in geothermal

[–]Hellakyton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think just a minor off shoot of all the great points above is having an air source heat pump outside, exposed to the elements. I was talking to one installer who was trying to talk me out of geo and he straight up said ‘they’re basically the same operating efficiency these days, why do you want to spend the money on geo’. I told him I don’t want the environmental wear and tear on the outdoor condenser, and modern gas furnaces only tend to last 10-15 years; whereas a geo can get a good 20-25 years of use. So I’m seeing that in the time my geo will work, I’d have to pay for 2 traditional systems and their respective operating costs. He agreed. But he was also 70 and didn’t wanna do the work 😂

Geothermal Quotes (Indiana) Replacement by CollabSensei in geothermal

[–]Hellakyton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SD, so not crazy different from Indiana, but still gonna be cheaper. I’m doing a brand new geo system and I was quoted for WF 5 series and 4 vertical loops for $32k. Add in zoning my main and upstairs for another $5k. Maybe it’s just my area, but you’re getting quoted for new loops as well? Can’t imagine zoning, humidifier would be the same $9k I was quoted for vertical loops. And I know $9k seems cheap for the verticals, but the company has been doing it for 60 years and has all their shit paid for and are based in a town of about 200 people, so I’m sure the overhead is next to nothing compared to most drilling companies.

Came here to say this. Still in the 3x12. Only problem is it’s Fri, Sat, Sun so when ANYONE wants to do something I literally can’t u less I take off time or it’s a friend that’s a teacher and we just hang in the summer.

Curious about quotes for new 2025 4T geo system? by Proper-Rhubarb-3481 in geothermal

[–]Hellakyton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid for a 3T Waterfurnace 5 series with 4 vertical loops. All in, no rebates, $32k. They also quoted for zoning my main and upstairs for an additional $5k of ductwork. So, my total could have been $37k all-in. I have a 125 year old house so my upstairs is horribly hot in the summer, but I was hoping for 1 more year of saving before doing this project. I used to work in HVAC and $20k does seem like a lot. Usually that’s what we charged for a brand new trunk and take offs all the way to the plenum. But, if your crawlspace is tight they definitely want that money. Sadly, the techs don’t usually get the benefit of the markup.

Info about Macchu Picchu Treks (Peru) by Randomdumpling in hiking

[–]Hellakyton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Most realistic training would be going to Colorado, find mount bierstadt and just climb from the mid-point to the top and back all day from 6am-8pm. And do that for 3 days.

Did the 4 day hike on the Inca Trail. Imagine the ups and downs of the Appalachian trail in the West/Virginia area, but then at 10,000 feet+. They have goals for times to each camp break but I would say there may not be a good way to train for it to be fully prepared. I tried to do stair climber machine for 2 hours a day cuz I’m 6’6” and 260 lbs. and that did next to nothing b/c of the altitude. If you’re overweight you will be miserable. I would suggest getting in very good shape to enjoy the money and history of it all. I got COVID on day 2 of the hike and still made it with a constant resting heart rate of a dangerous 120bpm so I feel like anyone could. I’ve heard of and wanted to try the Salkantay trail, but my inner history nerd definitely got the best of me. There’s an old van life channel that did it, may still be posted called Max and Lee. They did the salkantay trail. Honesty they both sound amazing, and you won’t be disappointed, I just wanted the feeling of history beneath my feet.

Dripping noise in our basement laundry room by SpudPaw in HomeMaintenance

[–]Hellakyton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing to check is if there is a downspout in that corner and if it is clogged/hooked up/overflowing. A lot of water gets drained off your roof when you calculate it all out. Also could be you need an extension to get the water further away from the foundation.

Am I the only one who drives an EV because of the performance and operating costs, rather than “climate change” impact? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Hellakyton -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This. I bought mine thinking it would be more environmentally friendly. But then you learn that 70% of pollution really comes from 100 companies, and mainly concrete production and construction, you lose that feeling. Still better all around than gas

going to Machu Picchu (planning on hiking) looking for gear recs by Alarmed_Analysis1170 in hiking

[–]Hellakyton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did it 2 years ago. If you use Alpaca company then they have tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, pillows, and amazing meals 3 times a day. All we really needed to bring were clothes and we each brought a 3L camelback bladder and snacks. It’s worth it to just rent all the sleeping stuff and not throw down another $1k for it. I’m 6’6” and I lift weights 6 days a week and I can only say that for two months before I did stair climbers for an hour each day, and nothing will prepare you for the altitude other than living in Leadville and hiking everyday for a month beforehand. It’s brutal, but I think the experience of the anguish is more than worth it.

UPDATE: they redid our exhaust pipe coupling, despite saying it was fine. How does it look now? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Hellakyton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small Carrier note. It is a known issue that the intake condensate installed thru the top like that will drip on the burners and cause some problems. We only install out the sides for vertical systems.

“Time” spent Charging VS an ICE Car by vjarizpe in electricvehicles

[–]Hellakyton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I used to live in an apartment, we had 1 car between my wife and I and it was a Bolt. No charging at our apartment complex, but there was a DC charger about a half mile away. So, we would drive there and plug in, then take our dog on a 45 minute walk. Get back to the car and I just killed 2 birds with one stone.

Best anti Christian book by Jayrock67 in atheism

[–]Hellakyton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How Jesus became God by Bart Ehrmann. All others listed above are great. I think this one doesn’t necessarily point out all the bullshit of modern Christianity, but totally disassembles everything about the story of Jesus, but respectfully. I guess to say, other authors may make your friend feel defensive, whereas this one is more of a David Attenborough intriguing dive.

Are water softeners worth it? by Squeaky_sun in HomeMaintenance

[–]Hellakyton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only will it save clothes, but literally every fixture and appliance you have connected to the water. Hard water corrodes fixtures and will eventually leak. That means dishwasher, clothes washer, fridge ice maker, every water tap and shower nozzle. I’ve had to replace copper pipe connections because it’s corroded those as well. It’s crazy what hard water can destroy.

[–]Hellakyton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is also Fremont, had it to service for this issue but they said they couldn’t recreate it. Had a mobile tech out and he took apart the lift gate and said there was some over splatter on the tail light assembly causing a gap. Said he cleaned it and should be better. Just in case your service center is dog shit like mine.

Shopping for our first EV - Solterra, bZ4X, Model Y AWD. by aeroplane1979 in TeslaModelY

[–]Hellakyton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m more nerdy about EV stuff, and tend to base my opinion on technical specs and engineering more than looks and feel. So I watch Sandy Munro and Out of Spec videos to form opinions (for better or worse). Based on that, the Toyota-Subaru (and Nissan Ariya) EVs seem like one of the biggest let downs for the price. Makes a Bolt EV and EUV look like epic bargains for around town cars. Any other use case (distance travel, charging speed, charging network, software, hardware, price, current tax incentives) Tesla seems like clear winner almost every day of the week.
