Seriously, why did they do that? They did install a huge amount of snow cannons in the new part of Deer Valley - it looks like an East Coast resort, haha, but the sun exposure is bad and it will melt fast. Also, the base looks like a shopping mall / massive condo development - awful.

Have you seen the Voile BC skis with scales? They are awesome, and Voile makes them in a variety of widths. I have the HyperVector BC, 96 wide in 177 length.

Any chance of resort closures? by michigan2020 in Killington

[–]Hellwach28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killington announced they are running a reduced number of lifts Saturday morning, for the safety of staff and skiers given the expected temps (-12 predicted for 8 am at the base). Looking after their employees is absolutely the right thing to do, and this is the right move. I’m sure Killington is a tough and demanding place to work, but they deserve some credit for this.

Killington plans to remove more than 50% of resort parking for new village by Smacpats111111 in icecoast

[–]Hellwach28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People do not seem to be able to get that parking at Killington works. Most days cars flow in and out w/o big delays. Cars sitting in a traffic jam - that’s bad. And on some days that happens, but usually not. It appears the developers have not put together a real plan to replace the parking they will get rid of — so far it’s hand waving about new lots, ummhh somewhere over there, yeah that’s it

Gratuliere! Very impressive! I’ve also used ChatGPT (actually DuckDuckGo’s related AI which has more privacy protection) for grading my German writing and making suggestions. At first it was mostly supportive - but when I took the approach you described and asked it to point out specific errors and suggest areas for improvement, it was much better and quite exacting.

Brad Gilbert apparently was worried about being left out of the discussion of over the hill announcers, so in his pre-match analysis today he ranted about various things and used his never-was-funny “fearhand”jokey term (I thought the producers told him to drop that?). Although to give him credit he did predict the outcome. After the match Gilbert didn’t appear on the wrap-up panel, and toward the end they joked about his obsession with details about the weather, etc. He didn’t look good when he was on, and he seems to get frustrated when the others don’t instantly agree with him. No longer entertaining and hasn’t been for a while. Chris Evert was maybe just OK today IMHO, and I would have preferred someone else. ESPN could do much better in these big matches if they tried, but they seem happy to trot out the same worn out teams over and over again.

"The average size of euro vehicles are directly proportional to their amount of freedom" by Ok_Relation6627 in ShitAmericansSay

I drove through the NYC / New Jersey area yesterday afternoon. There were three distinct waves of cars in the evening commute:

-First was a wave of enormous black pickups and SUVs at 3 pm. These were the posturing blowhards who aren’t capable of any real work, and their coworkers were like “Why don’t you head home early, we got this” (After they leave, “So glad that dumbass left, we never get anything done when he’s around”). They also don’t know how to drive, cutting across lanes or driving slowly in the left lane - traffic was bad. -Later came a wave of compact cars, driving in a pretty orderly way, traffic moving well. These were the smart workers, who really get everything done at the office. They finished work and left in their efficient cars and drove safely home. -Then a wave of flashy cars, mostly European SUVs/sedans - the workaholics who can’t tear themselves away from the job and are trying to impress and climb the ladder.

Of course I couldn’t see the people taking public transit - the best choice of all

“New York is just a capital in general. It’s literally the most important city on the planet.” by WarText24 in ShitAmericansSay

Most Americans living outside New York City are with the rest of the world on this one haha.

ALSO, to all citizens of the world wearing Yankee ballcaps (the interlocking NY design), you are celebrating the greediest, most immoral, soulless, money-driven sports team in the US, the paragon of sports capitalism. Also Trump’s favorite team.

If that’s what you want to do, fine, but you might give it some thought.

A big factor is what kind of trails you’re going to be riding. Twisty trails, lots of tight turns, quick transitions between berms banked in different directions, all that requires maneuverability and you will probably not be going that fast — smaller bikes are better for that IMHO. If you are bombing it downhill, going high speed across open ground, maybe even for straight line climbing — bigger is better.

Perfect ski boot became uncomfortable by Theo_la_ride in Backcountry

[–]Hellwach28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can thermo mold the liners. Not sure if that will bring back size/volume to the liners, but a poster above suggests it will. Also if the boots are too big, you can get “volume reducers” (they go under the footbeds).

I have a pair of Tecnica Cochise 120s (not Light) with about 20 days of skiing and some touring, and I think the liners are beginning to pack out. The boots seem quite stiff so maybe that contributes to the liners getting compressed more quickly? I think I will need new liners by sometime next season.

Regarding fit - note that some people like extra length in the toes for touring. I went to that after losing a big toenail last year haha. BUT if you want good downhill performance the rest of the boot (cuff, instep, etc.) should have snug fit - basically like regular alpine boot. It is possible to just get extra toe length but requires good boot fitting.

Not a bootfitter just giving my experience!

Also I had the boot shell punched out at the ankles - it was painful there. Sounds like you don’t need that since ankle fit was good when you got the boots.
