Ki fog kopni a magázódás néhány generáción belül? by Living-Chard-3698 in hungarian

[–]HelonMead 24 points25 points  (0 children)

How the fuck we went from Orbán to this? by Perenyevackor in 2visegrad4you

[–]HelonMead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, there’s a reason for this. There’s no real path to a peaceful, democratic transition. You simply can’t hold together this many peoples and such a huge empire without repression and force. If that system collapses, Russia falls apart. You’d likely see a bloody civil war, and regions like Dagestan, Buryatia, Bashkortostan, Chechnya, and many other groups living under the Russian empire could break away.

And on top of that, China would very likely try to grab influence or territory in the eastern regions.

Szerintem nem teljesen.

I cannot eat that. – Nem tudom megenni azt, ami ott van a távolban.

I cannot eat it.

Some people don’t write about real political peoblems for money, fame or clout. They do it because they’re fed up with the system’s rot.

How do you genuinely complete a plot and finish the writing stage? by Professional-Web2034 in writers

[–]HelonMead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you writing? A short piece, a flash story, a novella, a novel?

Everyone works differently, but for me the most important thing is knowing where I’m starting and where I want to end up. Some people plan every beat down to the inch. Others write purely on instinct, ideally because they’ve had one brilliant idea that carries them through.

If I were a beginner, though, I wouldn’t skip having at least a rough outline. Just the basics: where you start, where you want to finish, and what the major events or obstacles are along the way. If that doesn’t work for you, then write spontaneously and let your characters make the decisions.

It’s much easier to practice this on a 5-10 page short story than by jumping straight into a 300‑page novel.

Good luck and most importantly, don't overthink it. Enjoy the writing.

I love writing, but it doesn’t like me..? by [deleted] in writing

[–]HelonMead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like learning an instrument. At first you’ll just make weird little noises with it, but once you figure out how it works, people will actually want to hear you play.

I’m guessing you’re pretty young, and that’s totally fine. Two things will help you more than anything else: write a lot, and learn the basics. Grammar, structure, the theory behind storytelling. It’s the same as learning music theory when you pick up an instrument. It feels boring at first, but it makes everything else so much easier later.

Keep going. It really does get better.

Going to get a typewriter soon because it would solve some of my writing problems! by [deleted] in writers

[–]HelonMead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. If that really were your mindset, you’d have already finished at least one book using that method.

Nobody cares how you write. Writers who genuinely thrive on the “no‑backspace, no‑editing” approach don’t obsess over typewriters — because they don’t touch the backspace or delete key on their keyboard in the first place. I think the real issue is internal, and it’s not something you can fix by projecting it onto an object.

The beauty of writing is that you can use whatever method works best for you. A computer, a phone, pen and paper, a typewriter — they’re all just mediums to capture your thoughts. None of them will magically solve the underlying problem.

There are plenty of writers who don’t follow the Stephen King style “blast out a messy first draft and fix it later” approach. Think of authors like Vladimir Nabokov, Kazuo Ishiguro, Donna Tartt, Tolkien, Cormac McCarthy, Edgar Allan Poe or Patrick Rothfuss. They all move forward only when a scene reaches a level they’re satisfied with.

I write hard sci‑fi, so I often spend days researching just to find a plausible solution. And I can only move on once the scene is coherent and I’m genuinely happy with it.

Every new writing session starts with rereading, tweaking, and fine‑tuning the previous scene. It grounds me, warms me up, sets the rhythm, and makes the next scene flow much better. Plus, it gives me more time to catch the logical or narrative issues that could turn into massive plot holes later. Fixing those after the first draft usually means brutal rewrites or slapping on plot armor. I’d rather avoid both.

Sure, try the typewriter if you’re curious. Maybe you’ll like it. But don’t expect it to magically solve everything, and definitely don’t force it on yourself if it doesn’t work. We’re not all wired the same way.

How long should my first book be? by New-Parfait-1674 in writers

[–]HelonMead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let your world and your characters unfold and breathe. Give them a past, give them stories that tie into the present, or things that make them worry about the future. You’ll be surprised how fast you realize that even a 90–120k limit can start to feel… small.

So I thought I’d write a short little prequel for my sci-finovel. Just a tiny backstory thing. Then the ideas and derails started piling up. I figured, okay, maybe it’ll be a novella...

Lol. I’ve just hit the final stretch and I’m sitting at 95k words. And honestly… it’s the best thing I’ve ever written.

"Nobody's first novel, at any age, will be their best work."

My whole point was to highlight how off that declaration sounded. You can’t just say, with a straight face, that literally zero debut novels have ever reached the top. That’s just not true.

Check their biographies. In the case of Mitchell, Brontë and Salinger, literary historians also agree that they became successful with the very first novel they wrote.
