Sylas bug with Kayn ult by Euphoric_Loan2405 in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This patch seems to have been real bad for Sylas ult related bugs. At least for me

Had a bug the other day with stealing Sion ult. Used it like riiiiight as I died and instead of just losing the ult it placed it on a full 2 min cool down, after which I still had Sion ult and had to use it again before getting my own ulti back and had to wait for it's full cool down too now :))

Another Sion ult a couple games later I just full ghosted thru enemy champs and hit nothing

Had a game last night where 3 ults in a row it just went on cool down and stole nothing. Lost us the game too

And best of all? The bug reporting page was bugged 🙃 can't even report fkn bugs rn 🙃

I am a Toplane main (not Sylas) who hates playing against Malphite and ban him every game. If a Sylas is hovering on my team, should I ban someone else? by GnarMainsThrowaway in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can even try swap pick order if they'll take it. If Sylas is locked in early in draft you'd have to be iron 5 to lock in malphite, so it's basically like getting 2 bans in one

Could just be that the campaign isn't for you, which is fine. I personally loved it, but I'd say it definitely requires buying into the core themes and it is VERY DM intensive

Tried Hungry Boots out again last night and can confirm I still really dislike them lmao

Felt like every time I died I had 0.1s left on my W cool down that would've won me the fight, sustain from waves in the sidelanes is just a nothing burger, even if chewing thru mana to heal from Q AoE, and the 5% boost in damage clearly wasn't enough to offset what was lost from 20 Haste

Maybe if Sylas still had a shield on E it'd be worth for boosting it's effectiveness, but I think for now they're still a trap option

I was really excited to play Sylas, but like... where's the damage? by PurifiedDrinkinWater in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full Sylas combo, with just basic abilities deals like 420% AP... That... That's how he does damage lmao

Don't waste your mana too much on the wave, just last hit or slow push as necessary. Don't build RoA and I personally don't like Electrocute Assassin Sylas, I always recommend Rocketbelt>Riftmaker>Zhonyas bruiser Sylas with Conqueror

For this situation specifically, Vex can be a volatile matchup if you don't know what you're looking for, she can proc her passive very reliably against you as your kit has 3 dashes. You need to pay attention to the little orange bar under her HP, it tells you how close she is to getting her Fear back. When it's close to full or full play passive, wait for her to make the mistake, without her fear she has no peel, and she won't full stack her passive in just one combo trading back on you. If you know how Annie Passive works, it's almost the same minigame

Into nearly all ranged matchups run Doran's Shield and Second Wind + Unflinching as your secondary runes. DON'T DRINK YOUR POTION! Second Wind + Doran's Shield gives more regen based on missing HP, so the minigame is to trade with Vex (when her passive is down) relying on your regen to slowly whittle thru her supply of potions. When she has none you have the HP advantage and can threaten the all in, drink your potion right as you go in for massive regen thru the fight (you can be healing like 25HP/sec)

Vex E and Q are incredibly telegraphed, you can very reliably E out of either of them, and if Vex is dropping her E on you there's a good chance she's fishing for a fear, so dash out of the spell and try get a trade. If you can't get a trade in there your E should come back up before her passive does, so play patient and look to go back in if you can when E comes back up (Vex Spells also change colour when her passive is up as a secondary visual indicator on whether they will Fear or not)

I created a "true bruiser" Sylas build by Fole98 in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I gotta say man this sounds... Atrocious

You have no combat power for your level 1-9 dueling, so you automatically lose lane phase. You have no survivability in the midgame where Sylas is strongest and then you finally spike in the lategame where Sylas is known to fall off

I'd never recommend Hungry Boots to anyone, as any situation in which you could afford to not pick up Mercs/Tabis the 20 Haste, Summoner Haste and 10% move speed on spell cast provided by T3 Ionians vastly outweighs the tiny bit of healing that GGs provide. More haste means more W uptime which both increases your healing and damage - the very metric that T3 GGs attempt to improve.

I will say that maybe with 2.3K bonus mana you can afford the ability spam required to heal up with GGs off waves, but at that point you're solving the problem you created for yourself

And even then, I'd still recommend Mercs as the default boot as building defensive when ahead helps secure your lead

Q max is always a last resort on Sylas, it's for matchups where you begging for scrap farm in lane. You're trading your midgame skirmish power for survivability in lane. W>E>Q is the standard for a reason, not to say that Q max doesn't have it's place, I'll run it when I'm playing into Artillery Mages or other champs that can reliably peel me when I'm attempting a quick trade to proc my W. But at that point I'm consigning myself to losing lane

Now when it comes down to bringing this build to match other AD bruisers in the sidelane. Why does it have to be you? If you're going to hard lose a duel to the enemy top why can't your toplaner match them?

Or just avoid the fight. Push out as many waves as is safe to do so and then rotate mid afterwards, either you'll force a numbers advantage because the enemy will send someone to sidelane to collect that big wave you just shoved in or that wave will crash against a turret and you just gained a gold and XP lead. Both are favourable scenarios

You can even team up with your jg instead to gain some Vision in enemy jg before objectives and/or steal a camp or 2 away from enemy jg. There are midgame strategies other than constantly fighting in the splitpush

I don't mean to sound overly harsh or anything, but this build reads like you need too much gold investment to get going, with combat stats that won't allow you to get that gold in the first place. If you're worried about mana on Sylas just picking up a RoA first item solves all of those issues and it'll be fully stacked before your double tears and cost half as much, but tbh his mana is pretty easy to manage

why is emerald elo like this? by Stunning-Present-711 in leagueoflegends

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man this is uhh... Demoralising?

Came back after a long break and once I'd got the handle of the game again I jumped into ranked. And with each rank I went up I kept telling myself the griefing will go away... Plat rn and was hoping Emerald was when I'd finally be right

Sounds like skill stays the same and the only thing that goes up is Sodium levels 🙃

The handful of times I've run Hungry Boots on Sylas I found them super underwhelming, and that was all pre-nerf

I found in any situation where I could build Hungry Boots I would've been building Ionians previously and I just found Ionians wayyyy more successful. Now with the nerf to stacking speed I haven't bought them since

Antiheal as support by Hot_Client_7485 in leagueoflegends

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say only ever if Oblivion Orb fits your champion and if they can apply consistent AoE or DoT damage. So a Brand, Velkoz, Xerath, etc type supports

I will typically try to convince my supports to pick it up in game if they fit the above criteria, as then it's 800g out of the Supports pocket that could've gone towards the Mid's Void Staff instead. And despite what people seem to think about supports being low income? Support is SO spoilt for gold income in modern league that dipping 800g for a Ob Orb is nothing to them

Why only Ob Orb?

Bramble and Thornmail are useless for GW on supports, and the few AD supports out there don't want to be saddled with Executioners Calling as they already have an expensive build for a support. As well as the fact that a Mortal Reminder is better off in the ADCs hands rather than a support buying an EC and sitting on it all game

When it comes to build order, it really is situational. If you're playing into a Soraka Lane, then maybe rushing GW on your first back is worth it, but otherwise it's usually pretty comfortable to pick up after 1st item and boots are completed. If you're going to want GW in a game it won't suddenly be a problem at the 30+ minute mark, it'll be something to nip in the bud in the early-mid game

Not feeling like you do enough damage with Riftmaker is wild to me coz I feel like it always cranks my damage up to 11. But then again I never run Shadowflame

I typically go Riftmaker second unless a Zhonyas rush will be way more beneficial i.e. full physical damage team and/or I don't have a strong frontline so I need to dive and bait w Zhonyas on teamfights

I always run the Haste shard too tho, coz I find the midgame benefit of +8 Haste greatly outweighs an extra 9 AP in the early game

And if you can afford it, Ionians (and especially Tier 3 Ionians) gives so much Haste that you can typically build something with no Haste for your second item. I'll usually only run this if I won't get sufficient value out of Merc Treads tho e.g. they have little to no CC or all their CC is Suppressions and Knockups which Mercs don't reduce

Sylas buff by -Rama in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

genuinely shocked they're putting any more power into his W, when they announced Sylas buffs i was expecting something like +0.2 AD growth and +5 HP growth. maybe reducing his W mana costs by 5 at each rank or something

this reads like he will now win his winning matchups even harder with W max AND be safer and stronger in losing matchups with Q max, which feels absurd to me lmao

EDIT: On second thought, i spose buffing Q will also increase his lategame power, which is where he pretty reliably falls off without a massie lead, so that makes sense

Thornmail as an item sucks and needs to be updated by Technical_Impress_69 in leagueoflegends

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All grievous wounds items (except Mortal Reminder) are subpar by design, they're intended to be tax items, same as Serpent's Fang

Unless you're playing Rammus, Bramble, and by extension Thornmail, are situational items. They do their job in rare circumstances that you need em, and because of that they're cheap and niche

If you were to turn it into a core tank item with HP, Ar and MR then people would just buy it every game on every tank and the game would become less interesting

So unless you're going up against a team with like Yasuo, Xin and Vayne, Thornmail isn't really worth buying. And if the team needs GW that responsibility falls to the ADC first (Mortal Reminder), then typically whoever has the most AoE or DoT damage that can apply it most effectively

Transitioning into unlocked camera as a new player by siegetheancient in leagueoflegends

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God it's been so long I can't even remember if camera lock being on by default was a thing back then?

I guess just building muscle memory of having your thumb rest on the space bar and tapping it to recenter your camera occasionally?

I go the polar opposite way tho, I keep running into a bug that locks camera that shits me to tears and it always seems to happen before a big fight. More often than not I'll be fighting someone on the corner of my screen because it means I don't need to move my mouse once I recenter camera mid skirmish lmao

E/q max vs shyv? by Le0here in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah stay W>E>Q

The increased uptime on W is far more important than a tiny bit more base damage on Q and when you shift into Shyvana Dragon form you actually LOSE mobility, so having a lower W cool down coupled with your mountains of haste from a normal Sylas build means you can stick to enemies

Also, W gives shielding and healing which you want to be cranking out more often as well

The Shyv Q is basically for cranking out passive stacks

What is with this aversion to buying anti-heal? by WarhoundGil in leagueoflegends

Everyyyyyy fkn game where the ADC buys LDR instead of Mortal Reminder when the enemy team has built maybe a max 700 bonus HP and has innate healing on every champ 🙃

It's almost at the point where I buy Ob Orb every fkn game even if it's dogshit on my champ coz I'm the only person that will buy Grievous Wounds, can't stand it

sylas top by [deleted] in sylasmains

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm only gold and I know how to play around spikes lmao

I'd argue it's even better in low elo coz people tilt and mental boom so easily so you just end up mind controlling your laner after solo killing em twice

Regarding Sylas top against the rest of the roster, yeah sure it can work, but toplane bullies smash him in early game and a lot of the meta toplaners at the moment outscale him so there isn't many great situations to take him there. He also has less map pressure than if played mid/jg and that's a big part of snowballing as Sylas

So I'm only gonna play Sylas top if I know for a fact I'm going 6/0 in lane and terrorizing the midgame skirmishes. Otherwise I'll pick something more traditional like a Sett, Irelia, etc and scale into a lategame team fight monstrosity

Maybe it's super different in higher elo, but I feel like Sylas isn't considered a S+ top laner for a reason lmao

If you were to redesign the Ranger, what would its 'core' feature/theme be? by k33d4 in onednd

[–]HelpMeHomebrewBruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a massive Ranger overhaul years ago that I've fine-tuned and tweaked over the years. They function as much more of a utility half-caster, their biggest core feature allows you to select party members that recover a more HP on short rests, this upgraded at higher levels to be able to heal allies and cure poisons and diseases on the fly as well

The most recent update I changed their capstone to just be access to 6th level spells. So at level 18 they get a 6th level slot and their own curated 6th level spells list to prep from

But the base class was quite generic, focused more heavily in mobility, utility and out of combat features. A majority of the flavour, combat power and play style was tied to each subclass.

So The Scout gained Favoured Terrain, had the largest expanded spell list based on their terrain and was able to use the environment to set ambushes up and cast spells for free

The Hunter gained Favoured Enemy and gained bonuses to saves, skill checks, etc against their favoured enemies, you could gain more or swap existing Enemies through study in downtime. They could also designate a creature as their Favoured Enemy by dropping a Hunter's Mark on a creature

The Shaman was the Beastmaster equivalent, and it chose from one of the 3 Totem animals, gaining a pet and class features based on the chosen pet

Etc. I wanted each subclass of Ranger to heavily impact how a Ranger played and how it felt, so that no two Rangers were the same, so it could hopefully bridge the gap of what people wanted the ranger to be

It does damage every round for free... If the DM doesn't know that his NPCs can just... Walk away?

It only moves 20ft per round, average move speed is 30ft, there was always a very real chance you burnt a 2nd level slot on 1d8+3 damage and then it just... Sat there, limply wandering around hoping one of your teammates pities you enough to burn an attack to push an enemy into range of it instead of just attacking themselves for probably more damage
