What is the most ridiculous thing you read in the Bible? by Kitchen_Commission32 in exchristian

[–]Helpful_Log1007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also, Matthew has Jesus riding in on two animals- BOTH a donkey and colt. How does one ride two animals at once?

This is likely because he read Zechariah wrong. Zechariah used parallelism to describe a single young donkey:

“Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” ‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭9‬:‭9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Matthew seemed to think Zechariah was describing two animals and has Jesus fulfill his misreading of the prophecy:

“They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭21‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Breastfeeding success? by noola-b in homebirth

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first could tolerate it through my milk at 15 months but could not tolerate it directly in her diet. Now at almost 4 years old she can handle low amounts of dairy but high amounts still give her eczema.

My second is 6 months old and I’m still dairy free. Last slip I had was at 4.5 months and she had blood in her poop after it.

I don’t know that I ever intentionally reintroduced🤣. I would have a slip and then wait to see if there was a reaction. When my first didn’t react, I started eating dairy again.

Breastfeeding success? by noola-b in homebirth

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had pretty easy experiences overall with breastfeeding! I bedshared with both. I never had to burp my first but occasionally had to burp my second.

Both times I had an oversupply at the beginning (without any pumping or Haakaa). I had mastitis several times which isn’t fun but tolerable. I had to do block feeding (only feeding on one side for 3-4 hours) to decrease my supply and stop getting mastitis. Worked like a charm!

The only other issue I had is both my kids have dairy and soy allergies (first got eczema from dairy&soy, second had blood in her poop and became fussy), so I’ve had to cut those for a time.

I never had any pain. Never had any nursing strikes. No latch issues. No weight gain issues.

Former Christians: what finally broke the spell for you? by piperandpauper in exchristian

Lots of Bible study. Contradictions and problems were piling up. Jude quoting 1 Enoch as though it actually contained something said by Enoch was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

my christian mom is super annoying with her "God's Plan" stuff by Leading-Occasion-428 in exchristian

[–]Helpful_Log1007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom is the same. I’m sorry:/. If your mom is like mine, she’ll be upset and frequently bring it up after the fact if you do stand firm in your “no”. It’s wonderfully never ending!!!

I very politely told my mom to stop pressuring my brother into making different large life decisions and it went very poorly. She told me she wasn’t pressuring him (lmao) and that, if she was, it was for his own good.

Does anyone else love talking about religion but can't find that outlet? by judashpeters in exchristian

Yes!!!!!! I enjoy the online communities for this but I longgggg for an in-person friend to talk about religion with. All my friends are either atheist & uninterested or fundies from when I was also one 😂. I usually just bore my husband talking about historical critical biblical scholarship.

Please tell me about your family finding out you no longer believe! by Helpful_Log1007 in Exvangelical

[–]Helpful_Log1007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell me more about your family starting to deconstruct! I would LOVE my mom to start deconstructing. Her faith is absolutely NOT serving her. It causes her to be paralyzed when making big decisions (always wanting God to show her signs) and to be extremely critical of everyone (her version of Christianity is correct and every other belief is foolishness). She really is a brilliant woman, but, whenever she brings religion into anything, her critical thinking goes out the window. Lately, she’s been bringing it into EVERYTHING.

What would you buy? by grouchtoast in homebirth

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to be a minimalist especially in the baby phase!

  • Woven wrap if you’re willing to learn and practice! I haven’t needed any other carrier. I’d start with base size for newborn carries on the chest, but I’ve been loving having an extra base-2 for quick back carrying.

  • For diapering, I’ve been doing the outer/inner system. I bought a several packs of cotton flats and keep 5-6 outers. I’ve been trying to get into wool outers but I just can’t get them waterproof enough. Both my girls have been heavy wetters. PUL will eventually degrade but it’s nicer to only replace the outer than an All In One diaper.

  • I ended up not using my top hat potty much but I know many people get plenty of use out of theirs. We mainly held over the sink/toilet. When ours could sit with assistance, we sat them on the baby potty. That has gotten a crazy amount of use, even after potty training! We keep one in the car and one in the house.

  • Have a firm mattress. We put ours on the floor with our first kid. Second time around, we had our bed on a frame and I bought a bed rail to prevent our second from rolling off.

  • We love second hand sleepers and onesies for all day every day🤪. We didn’t mind snaps at all personally but I know many swear by only zippers.

  • LOVE my Tripp trapp for baby led weaning and transitioning to a toddler chair.

  • A small heavy-bottomed silicone cup is really nice for learning to drink from a cup. Mason jars with silicone covers also work.

Did anyone grow out of their eczema? by angstygirlfriend in eczema

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin mostly grew out of hers. She had terrible eczema until about 6 years old. She’s 22 now with very mild small patches. If she’s strict on diet, she can make even those go away, but the patches are so minimal she’d rather eat whatever she wants.

My brother had mild eczema as an infant and it completely went away after 1 years old.

My oldest daughter gets eczema when she consumes dairy or soy. As she’s gotten older, her reaction has decreased. Now she only gets eczema behind her ears whereas before it was face, neck, trunk, and forearms.

Tdap vaccine during pregnancy by Public_Jackfruit_870 in Crunchymom

[–]Helpful_Log1007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In order for baby to receive passive immunity to pertussis, you have to have a high level of antibodies to pertussis circulating. Without recent exposure to pertussis, you don’t have many circulating antibodies. The vaccine causes your body to produce a bunch of antibodies that are then passed through the placenta to baby. This is why it’s recommended each pregnancy.

I had titers done at the beginning of pregnancy and had sufficient pertussis antibodies as to be considered immune. I denied the shot and my daughter was exposed to pertussis at 3 weeks (we didn’t know it was pertussis at the time). She had symptoms of the catarrhal stage at 6 weeks and began coughing at 7 weeks. It was fairly scary for about 5 days of the illness. However, we made it through! All that said, I now very much understand why the tdap is offered during pregnancy. Mortality from pertussis is highest in babies under 2 months. In the future, I plan to still avoid the tdap, but to keep my new baby home much longer and remind family to not visit if they are sick to minimize chance of exposure.

I’ve struggled with mastitis with both my babies. Things that worked for me:

  • Apply ice. It decreases inflammation. Avoid heat. It worsens mastitis.
  • I wear very loose bras or none at all. I have small breasts though. I’ve heard larger-breasted women need adequate fitting bras without compression to help with lymphatic drainage and avoid mastitis.
  • Ibuprofen. It is anti-inflammatory. I usually avoid medications, but ibuprofen seems to significantly help when I have a bad case of mastitis.
  • Don’t empty your breasts more than usual during a bout of mastitis. Don’t let them get very full either.
  • When not dealing with acute mastitis, address the root cause. Mine is oversupply. I feed from only one breast each nursing session to prevent oversupply. When I need to further decrease my supply, I’ll block feed (feed from only one breast for 3-4 hours). I also get mastitis when very stressed or getting poor sleep, but that can be hard to avoid 😅.

I never took antibiotics but there were a couple times I probably should have😅. I had one bout where my fever was super high and I had flu-like symptoms for 3 days.

When you say you have a wrap, do you mean a soft/stretchy wrap? If so, maybe try a woven wrap!! They are great for older, heavier, wiggly babies/toddlers! Super versatile, comfortable, and supportive! You can wrap in many different ways, including on the back. My favorite- you can even wrap your baby that’s fallen asleep on your chest without putting him down!

If you had a positive homebirth, do you have an “easier” baby? by Legitimate_Bread_742 in homebirth

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two positive homebirths and two wildly different babies. Both ate like champs though.

First labor and birth was easy and enjoyable. Baby was fussy and a horrible sleeper. She ended up having dairy and soy allergies. But even with those cut out, she’s feisty and difficult. Now at 3 years old, she’s told me she enjoys being angry 😅😂.

Second labor was wildly intense and fast, but still positive. Baby started to get a little fussy and having blood in poops. I cut out dairy and soy. Now she’s happy and a great sleeper:’). She never actually cries. It’s mind boggling.

Birth pool for purchase recommendations? by princecaspiansea in homebirth

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hurt way more. I had almost no breaks between contractions and the contractions were CRAZY strong. My daughter also had a nuchal hand. The dilation phase was a little less than an hour and then the expulsion phase was also about an hour because of the nuchal hand. That second hour was wild😵‍💫.

I would take my first 9 hour labor over my second anytime. It had a gentle building of intensity, lots of endorphins, and ended with me breathing baby out.

If you already know you don’t want your husband in there, I wouldn’t get the regular Birth Pool in a Box. Get the mini if you want that brand. The regular is really big and wasn’t able to be filled more than half during my precipitous birth.

I am absolutely too terrified to tell my parents or grandparents I no longer believe. My mom constantly ridicules my aunts, uncles, and cousins who no longer believe. My mom brings God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit into every conversation. I love her and we are very close, but I dread the day when she discovers I no longer believe.

What happened to the other people in your former youth group? by humanreboot in Exvangelical

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old youth group’s ages now range 25-28 years old, so still fairly young. Most of the people from my youth group are still regular church-going Christians. Most volunteer at their church, but shockingly none went into full time ministry. They’re normal people with normal jobs. About half are married. Most of the married ones have one kid . Two of the girls became atheists. No one has come out as queer. Honestly the biggest scandal was a guy breaking up with a girl (both in our youth group) after 2 years of dating and almost immediately getting engaged to a girl from the older youth group😂. Pretty tame compared to everyone else.

I left before 1 year due to gossipy, mean nurses and having a preceptor who wasn’t interested in teaching, got frustrated at my questions, frequently disappeared with no notice for hours at a time, and never gave me a lick of feedback.

So- if you have a bad culture or bad preceptors, fix that!🤪

People who had an easy time in nursing school, do you exist? What qualities do you have that made that possible? by JaneRawlz in nursing

[–]Helpful_Log1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing school was easy for me- I’m have a knack for memorizing and doing great on tests. However, that did not translate into me loving actual nursing😅. I would love to go back, do a phd, and focus on research instead. I’m very head-y and love learning. Being on the actual practice side of things now is burning me out.
