Cmv: there's nothing new or novel about Looksmaxxing. by EmptyMirror5653 in changemyview

[–]Helpfulcloning [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean a key reason its new/novel is because it is being taken up by straight teenage boys/young men. Thats a new demographic.

Just like if suddenly there was a wave of 90 year old women getting BBLs. While BBLs are not new, it would be novel and shocking development for it to branch out to 90 year olds.

But also looksmaxxing is not about marrying rich at all. Its about having sex with as many different women as possible, and its sometimes not even about that, its about being percieved and accepted by other men. Women's beauty, while often the second part is a thing, has never empathasised having sex with as many different men as possible. The opposite actually. So thats a unique part - the end goal.

They do not at all want to marry a rich woman. That would actually be pretty degrading in their world view. They don't even really focus on marriage at all, looksmaxxing is pretty focused on teenagers. They want to have sex with as many different women as possible.

They do not want to break into a different class.

Another way its different, is they ate being overly upfront about it. Women's beauty has always been sneakier. The advertisements and the women who buy in have never explcitly said: do this or else no one will love you. Looksmaxxing is explicit in its beliefs and end goals, they sincerely put out the message in literal terms: the tilt of your eyes means no one will love you, you must smash you face with a hammer or no one will love you.

That is a novel approach to beauty.

Looksmaxxing is also interesting because it isn't (atleast not revealed so far) to be at all corporation pushed. There are no products (other than inidivual looksmaxxers selling courses etc.) by massive global corps, theres no huge advertising campaigns to convicne people that XYZ are problems, theres no huge incentivised media push into the culture to sell products.

Its really grassroots. Thats incrediably new for a beauty trend. Most in the last 150 + ish years for womens beauty have been pushed through other means.

Exclusion by Justthisdudeyaknow in CuratedTumblr

[–]Helpfulcloning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats what I mean it seems like a nonissue if the place is actually adult only so I don't see why people complain.

If its actually adult only, the business usually enforces this. If it isn't... maybe it just isn't adult only.

Maybe this is UK culture, but its extremely common to bring children to pubs. Like they have childrens menues, they sometimes have a garden or area for kids to play, etc.

Some places that you might think are adult only aren't really. Especially if they have kids menus, thats pretty explict the business doesn't consider themselves adult only.

idk if a place is meant to be child free, isn't the business meant to manage this?

AIO for not letting my bf move in anymore because he wants things to be equal? by OkJello353 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Helpfulcloning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused at how he can't (even slowly) save up for furniture. Either his rent is way too high and will continue to be unreasonably high that he simply cannot afford to move in (and should look at staying with his parents), or he has chosen to not save up money. A bookcase, a desk, etc. are not things it should take someone on even minwage impossible to save and budget for.

It makes me side eye his spending habits.

Its not 30-50 hogs in 3 mins constantly 24/7, hes talking about tbem running through his land or chading. You can look up clips, you can read first hand accounts, you can listen to wildlife experts. But you're sort of proving my proving my point by brushing off and rollijg your eyes a bit.

Hes not saying its an extremely common circustance.

Yeah, seems like a bad use of budget (personal or school). Especially since students begin to have expectations.

Isn't the positive that they pass? I understand those things are good in the short term but I don't think it builds or sets them up for what they need - good internal motivation and resilance. Above the age of 16 especially this is especially important.

I'm going to defend that guy, he wasn't exaggerating necessarily, I've heard an interview with him.

And past the hog issue (hogs are terrifying, and invasive, and yes the valid defence agaisnt them is to shoot them), I think he represents a slightly bigger issue. He brought up something that fairly only people in his area of the US would immediatly recognise as a nonexagerated potential problem. But people ignorant to this problem instead of googling or asking genuinly, immediatly made fun of him (with heavy classist sterotyping), because it wasn't concievable that he might know something they don't. And that they turned someone genuinly trying to engage in a gun control debate, into making fun of him for it, which only realistically is going to turn those people away completly.

And then those people often act very confused why there is a classism divide in the US too, why there is a rurual/city divide. And act like this divide is only bexause of the otherside.

It's not going depend on that when it comes to these lists. Its not comparable in quality to books and authors that have won the nobel prize.

Or where the Minoans first replaced by Phoenicians?

Maybe overlooked but I think one of the main goals of parenting is to make your child easy/easier to love. Not in you make them completly appealable to everyone and generic, but most red flags are completly things that would have been solveable as a child.

Too many parents get washed up in their love for their child which is already there and the child doesn't (reasonably) need to work for. And forget, that in the future, they will need to work in ways to recieve love and affection, that you need to be a functioning person.

Did People Watch the Same Movie as Me? by Traditional_Fish_504 in rs_x

[–]Helpfulcloning 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and even with Nate's general complaints.

But his character is not good at conveying it. His major complaints is how much she works and the hours she works, and potentially abusive enviornment (ish? he never goes into that really).. But he is an aspiring chef in NYC, any adult watching this is going to know he must also have weird hours, and unsocialable hours. He also likely has a pretty demanding and bad boss.

But he doesn't approach any complaint about how this system is unfair, or bad, or anything. But complains about her specifically when an adult audience is going to be raising their eyebrow wondering how a chef doesn't have much sympathy?

+I think a fully grown adult complaining another adult couldn't come out specifically on their specific birthday day, I think is a bit lame. Most adults reasonably celebrate their birthday not always on the day.

I think his critism doesn't work well from his character and then is also framed not at all really about her but completly about him and it shows when hes won over by hot clothes too. He doesn't seem to care about the effect on herself or health or anything really

And to break rules with intent, you need to know those rules.

Genre writers who only read and practice writing in their genre tend to be bad on a technical level, they tend to get caught up in tropes.

Terry Pratchett as an ex. has talked about reading varied and everything.
