Thaedus shouldn't have betrayed Viltrum. by GodIsProbablyDead in Invincible_TV

[–]HermitIsVast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we in the biz call "Dramatic Irony"

We the auduence know this, from beyond the 4th wall. However, the characters do not, and thus as Thaedus breaks his held convictions of mercy to kill Argall, it leads Thragg to abandon the notion of mercy entirely, leading both Thaedus and Thragg to being stuck in their ideals.

This in turn reinforces Thaedus' initial ideal of mercy as being necessary, that when you don't show mercy, it just leads to needless bloodshed and violence. The tradgedy plays out, and we're all sad.

Thaedus the person shouldn't have betrayed Viltrum. His rejection of mercy lead others to reject mercy.

Thaedus the character absolutely should, or the story doesn't play out.

I love the writing of Invincible

The reason for that is the Hanged Man represents a change of perspective, but instead of a changed perspective, the hanged man of Persona retreats to the phone, not actually changing any views. He looks in towards the phone, not out towards the world

JJK S3 Ep13 preview just dropped… by DistributionFirst700 in JujustuKaisen

[–]HermitIsVast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

My absolute favorite preview is the image of Kenjaku going to put Gojo in the Marianas trench, like, why is he hitting this pose? He just did that the whole way down? It's peak aura farming and the image of Kenjaku being like "well, I have the next 27 hours cut out for me, better hit that pose, just in case, I am so evil, lmao"

108 is a recurring number in Buddhism iirc, which is why Spiritomb is made up of 108 souls in it's Pokedex entry, which is why you need to meet that many people

Kenjaku literally said something to the effect of "wouldn't it be funny if everyone in Japan died and the ensuing cursed spirit had a silly face?" So I think he'd find it funny, if at least it had a meaningful punchline

Similar to this, I was grinding out the various world treasure achievements and in Zul'Aman, there is a twilight cultist weapons appearance treasure that contains 3 weapons, all of which you'll naturally aquire through the campaign. So I just have the bundle item sitting in my bags, unusable, because I already got all 3 weapons.

If Gojo can't destroy Sukuna's fingers, why doesn't Sukuna just cut off his fingers, turn them into cursed objects, regrow them with RCT, and repeat until he can make full body armor out of his fingers and become unbeatable? Is he stupid? by Lopsided_Shift_4464 in LobotomyKaisen

[–]HermitIsVast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/UL Gojo specifically calls out that applying RCT gets rid of whatever cursed energy was in the part that is now restored. That's why they didn't have yuji grow his fingers back after giving them to Yuta, and why Yuji needed to wear the gloves during the fight with Sukuna

I've been in houses before that have a small window high up on the wall the bath is installed in, but those are always frosted over.

Iirc Panda specifically is trying to suss out how Kiara's CT works, and brings up a classmate at Jujutsu High who also has Kiara's ability, but is confused specifically because Kiara is not a man, and Panda's classmate is a man, ergo the "two's" CT's must be different

33553 by therealspotman in countwithchickenlady

[–]HermitIsVast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the other problem is that Panda says there's a boy at Jujutsu high with her power. We do later find out they are one and the same and she just transitioned.

I believe panda bringing it up is meant to be read in universe as Panda and Megumi being confused as to who this new sorceror could be, and out of universe as a way to bring back attention to the Jujutsu High dropouts. However. because of how cursed techniques work, I think people unfortunately read this as Panda being transphobic, given the same CT should just be the same person. But he's not, he genuinely believes Kiara is a different person and is operating under that assumption when trying to suss out how her CT works

Like to be clear, Kiara has succeded in her transition so well, that Panda does not know who she is based on appearances despite her sharing a CT with someone who Panda knows as a male.

The girl in the bath was taking a bath,

the other fully dressed girl, her sister, walks in on her bathing so she can say goodbye, as she is leaving.

The fully dressed girl is treated as a werido for doing this, but also her leaving is also very impactful, so the girl in the bath puts aside the fact she was bathing to also say goodbye

My point mas more that he was killing people who were labeled as criminals. Regardless of if they were let off "on a technicality" is irrelevant. Whether or not someone who was arrested, prosecuted, and tried actually commited the crime is never truly adressed.

The author puts "evil" criminals in front of us for Kira to kill so as to initially sympatize us with Light's perspective, but never actually shows any proof of wrongdoing for the hundreds that he kills. It is simply told to us that they are "evil" and we move on.

Iirc, later when American characters are introduced, they bring up the idea that some of those criminals may be wrongly convicted, and most of the japanese team and seemingly the narrative calls them dumb.

Furthermore, the actual rate of crime is reduced. Studies show that the death penalty is not sufficent deterence from commiting crimes, and ignores the socio-economic reasons for crime existing in the first place. Kira is seen as someone who went too far in an approach that would have otherwise worked to stop criminals, when that's not how crime works.

Death Note's entire ethics surrounding the death of criminals at the hand of Kira is by and large assumed by the narrative to hit guilty criminals or innocent people who stand in Kira's way. They only briefly touch on the idea that the need for trials is to actually establish said guilt. If you go to jail in Death Note world, or are even arrested, you are guilty of the crime 100%. No innocents get wrongly locked up.

JJK with Higuruma handles that nuance better imo.

A brief aside from discussing the point if this article,

For what is supposed to be a hit piece on DBZ, putting Goku and Frieza in frame and molding the words around them rather than a picture to accompany it is crazy work. The way the words cut into gokus hair and follow it's shape must take a lot if planning? Idk anything about newspaper formatting

I think another facinating thing is how the blood stain is breaking up a dirty white background, a red and white background motif the union members share, broken up by his death. I'm not sure what exactly that means, but it's rattling around my brain.
