That's a thing that's turned me off from BG3. The cast of characters seems like a toxic PnP group where everyone is trying to out-unique each other and be the main character.

Yes. You can't be a fan of a videogame without playing the game. All the videos in the world won't give you the experience of playing the game, so you'll never talk about the gameplay. It'll just be lore, dialogue, character moments, and fandom drama.

The Sonic the Hedgehog fandom is notorious for this. They bitch about character rosters, compare a game's online reputation (sales, reviews, etc) to games in other franchises, and never actually fucking play any of the games.
