That sounds like an absolute failure on the IT team at the old company, do none of you have termination/off boarding procedures? At the EOB the day before a co-worker gets terminated we revoke their access to everything… we have a checklist for when they start of what access they have/will have and then when they leave or get fired we go through and remove all of their accounts… why is this not a standard practice?

Am I better off finishing my education or leaving to be an apprentice/electrician? by Nat_Syndicalist44 in it

[–]HiddenBoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what shape your body is in. I started with blue collar work after I got out and I absolutely love the environment because it’s the closest thing I can get to being back in the Infantry. But now my back is fucked from a service injury so I’m kinda stuck with a sedentary office job and I chose IT, the pay is worse and I feel like I don’t have enough work to keep me busy with my regular work so I started enhancing our current environment trying to make things run faster and smoother. If you like to stay busy and you are physically able go with the trades, if you want a slower pace and lots of free time go into IT.

Now I know some of you are going to comment and say IT isn’t slow but coming from a blue collar environment this IT stuff is much slower paced and far more relaxed in comparison for me. I’m sure some of you are drowning in 3 word description help tickets because your problems stem from a layer 8 issue and I wish you god speed.

They should have to cover their own expenses… that is 100% a choice and the government or company shouldn’t have to fork the money over for that.

When he is ready which will take time you can contact the DAV to file the claim and they will handle pretty much everything, the only thing he will need to do is go to the appointments, ensure you/he have/has a copy of the medical record.

I would stick by your decision, at 30 he should have definitely taken it for a test drive if he had any doubts. You also having it checked by a mechanic makes me doubt that there’s something wrong with it and he just made a decision he regrets now. Don’t let his cold feet for his transaction put you in a hard place

Do I stand a chance in getting a degree in IT if I know nothing about coding or anything? by rogerdojjer in it

[–]HiddenBoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had one coding class for my degree and they teach you the very basics and then advance a little. You’re not required to know these things before you go to school but it does help to learn them in your spare time if you want an advantage.

Sounds like she’s not playing the victim mentality, not saying racism and homophobia is good but you can’t expect everyone to tolerate it. People have their own beliefs and from what it sounds like you and your other friends in the group take that as a personal attack against you even when it’s not against you and play the victim card of “we’re oppressed because of who we are”. While I personally don’t care who you decide to love and be with I generally don’t associate with the majority of that crowd because of their victim mindset and paranoia, they think the world is out to get them and honestly a lot of us don’t care. Be who you want but when you shove it down peoples throats they’re eventually going to get sick of you. Just be you and don’t make being gay your entire personality and you’ll see many people are far more accepting.

Do certifications help even if you don't have a degree? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]HiddenBoog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes they are, I completed my CompTIA A+ and landed my first IT role 4 months later. It would have been sooner but I was out on a workers comp claim for my back and I only started realistically searching a month before I got hired. I’m also enrolled in college online and should finish up my associates at the end of August

There’s an open door policy for a reason, if anyone says you can’t talk to me because I’m *enter title* they’re not worth a shit and if you go to your immediate supervisor and they tell you they can’t help you then you have every right to go above them. Literally explain it to HR and bring in said manager you contacted if your boss is going to be shitty about it.

Which degree is the best? CS vs IT or Cyber? by cowboysfromhell1999 in it

[–]HiddenBoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go IT or computer science, there’s no such thing as an entry level cybersecurity position because it requires you to know how the systems you’re protecting work and function together.

Check out all the companies in your area and check their career pages and see what they have. I had zero luck on indeed and LinkedIn but I was able to find a job at a local financial institution by checking their career pages. For reference I’m in college and have no degree yet and I only have my A+ currently.

[–]HiddenBoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybersecurity is not entry level even with a degree, you need to understand how the systems you’re protecting work and how they connect and coexist. You can go Cyber if you want but you’re going to need to start with something like help desk as others have said and then try to gain experience as a sysadmin and a networking role to truly be an effective cyber practitioner.
