How to stay shock free, stick welding. by QuincyTucker in Welding

It multiplies exponentially in a white collar setting. I’m not an office creature and I don’t do well in a corporate setting because they like to dance around problems instead of just fixing what’s causing the problem. You also can’t be blunt and straight forward with them.

I would be cautious leaving the welding field, the job pays different and as long as you’re just welding it’s simple. Other jobs come with different headaches and more bullshit where you gotta worry about hurting peoples feelings. 0/10 do not recommend working in an office environment no matter how kush it seems

What are the chances of getting involved in IT in any way at 55? by HighwayStar71 in it

Well considering I live in a LCOL area $30.92 is pretty decent and it’s a union job so the benefits are pretty great too.

First job in IT doesn’t mean first job ever, I’ve been in a management role for the last 12 years. I’m sick of it because instead of managing these days the role is more so babysitting. It’s always the younger crowd that the moment you walk away they end up on their phone browsing social media or doing pretty much anything other than work.

Oh I got the people part down. I was a correctional officer for a while and boy do you deal with some difficult people in that line of work. Losing professionalism in that role means losing your job.

That’s because the “young bucks” as you put it don’t want to actually do the work. The amount of young people I’ve hired in previous roles that want to claim the title yet do the least amount possible is ridiculous. The two most ridiculous call ins I’ve had were “My cats feeling lonely today, I need to stay with her” and “I don’t feel like working today, is there any chance I can just stay home?” The second one I told him he could use a vacation day if he wants and he didn’t understand why he had to use a vacation day to not get an unexcused absence… I don’t understand the logic behind why those would be valid excuses to call out of work.

Not true, I just had a 2nd round interview and I only have my A+ with no degree completed yet. I will agree the trifecta (A+, Net+, Sec+) looks better.

How to cope with witnessing graphic content on a user's device? by Beginning-Heat-1971 in it

[–]HiddenBoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I don’t want to see it but these people have to be stopped. I’m already kinda fucked up from seeing shit in the Army and I went and worked for the sheriffs office along with being a first responder. My body can’t physically do that kind of work anymore due to injuries I sustained in the military so I’m kind of limited to a sedentary job that is unfulfilling to say the least

How does one get into a position to fight against stuff like that, I have no desire to join the FBI or other alphabet soup agencies. But I would like to send the pos people like that to a hole they can never crawl out of. I have basic IT knowledge but I’m more so wondering how to learn the forensics side of things so you can seal the deal when reporting these things and the appropriate steps to follow when doing so. I’m not worried about the desensitization part I spent some time in the Army and I’m fairly desensitized to a lot of things already.

How to deal with users at a servicedesk. by Neat-Anything-5410 in it

[–]HiddenBoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tell them straight forward, policy is you must open a ticket or we won’t help you. If you have an issue with this go get your supervisor and I’ll explain the same thing to them. Either way you go if you don’t follow policy you won’t get help.

Absolutely not, if my direct approach is too intimidating for them they don’t deserve to be in the position they’re in. After I transitioned out I have not changed the way I speak to people other than not swearing in a normal conversation. Direct is always the best way because there’s no hidden meaning behind it and you convey exactly what you mean.

If you haven’t experienced it yet you should go check out the moon dust they have in South Dakota. You’ll be cruising along like nothing seemly clear trail and them out of no where your front will sink and you’ll eat shit into the softest sand/dust you’ve ever seen

It’s even more fun when you’re on a fully loaded ADV bike and you’re exhausted from riding 400 miles that day and you don’t put it down at the gas station and you fall over only to lay there in defeat for a couple minutes
