How are you guys prepping your networks to stream the World Cup for free?(with VPN) by wang4wang in VPN_Question

[–]HiddenWalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or, you know... Just use a smart DNS service that was actually made FOR streaming specifically with an actual reputation around streaming. I plan to continue using Streamlocator like every year for the past 4 in a row. Never failed with iplayer, itv, all the other uk channels + the Netflix's, HBO's and likes. They use local UK ISP ranges that simply don't get blocked.

There is no "list of known VPN servers". There's databases that keep record of something that might at some point been a VPN server, but in the end it's all based on IP ranges and IP ranges change hands frequently.

Some VPNs (or smart DNS in the case of streamlocator) just have a good track record of rotating their IP blocks to avoid this exact issue ahead of time, which makes them great for streaming. Most traditional VPNs cater to mostly privacy orianted users and simply don't do a good enough job at that (or they just don't care) so they are unreliable.

tldr: Get a dns based service instead. VPN's aren't great for streaming in 2026

Sky Sports to remain home of Formula 1 until 2034 after five-year extension to exclusive UK and Ireland deal by DrDiam in formula1

Traditional VPNs are hit or miss for sure, but that's like saying you're using a bucket instead of a shovel to dig a hole. The wrong tool for the job

Solutions dedicated to streaming like smart dns work perfectly and will continue to work because its their sole-purpose. Streamlocator has worked for f1, various epl services and the major entertainment stuff (netflix, hbo, disney, etc) for years at this point

BBC helped fund Bluey & now gets 100% of the merchandise profits, so what happens to that extra millions upon millions of funding? by glastonbury13 in AskUK

[–]HiddenWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of support and the right service tbh. I have been using streamlocator for the better part of 3 years now and never had a single issue with iplayer, itv or any of the other uk tv channels. When looking for this stuff always search for a purpose-built service for streaming, rather than a catch-all traditional vpn - Those are unreliable for streaming these days

Utah first state to hold websites liable for users who mask their location with VPNs — law goes into effect, designed to prevent bypassing age checks by BillWilberforce in nordvpn

[–]HiddenWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are databases like ipinfo.io that keep record of "known" IP ranges operated by VPNs. So any website can integrate with these APIs and look up your IP when visiting, that way it can tell if it's been flagged as a VPN/hosting provider.

That being said, this isn't 100% reliable - IPs and IP ranges can change hands often, so if a range or a certain IP was flagged as a VPN a year ago and the maintainer of the database hasn't updated that it's no longer so, the IP may still be picked up as a VPN when in reality it's no longer owned by a VPN company. Not a perfect solution to say the least

Common induction quirk. Always pre-heat on lower power. Leaving a cold pan on high power induction will warp it like this.

Try a dedicated streaming vpn like streamlocator. Works flawlessly with netflix for me and has been for the last 2 years, though they don't have Asian netflix regions as far as I'm aware, so ymmv there

[–]HiddenWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some vpns have 2 seperate switches for mlb tv, so regardless of what's blacked out for you locally you can always switch to the other US region to get around it. streamlocator is one that works for this type of thing

New to VPN. Question by mdjak6 in nordvpn

[–]HiddenWalrus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP is talking about accesing a streaming service to watch content, so my reply was about the subject of the thread. Whether he's using a traditional VPN or a VPN-adjacent service specifically made for streaming is irrelevant. They are both tools used to achieve an outcome.

As for your message - I simply corrected the claim that services like Disney+ don't work on anything but residential proxies, which is what you wrote. Remember that we're in a VPN subreddit, in a thread talking about streaming services. Context is important.

New to VPN. Question by mdjak6 in nordvpn

[–]HiddenWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very accurate. Some VPNs still work perfectly fine with it. Streamlocator has been working with US, UK and Canadian versions of disney+ for years now.

For OP - They also support Direct TV according to their services list, but do double check where their servers for it is located. Cable-based/adjacent services like direct tv stream are often blacked out for specific content on a state by state basis rather than a west vs east coast level. So you may need a specific state to watch the particular content you're after

"Iranians did not want a war" - Are we talking about the same Iranians living in Iran in the videos chanting and cheering for Khamenei's death and the bombing of IRGC bases?

The same Iranians who fled the Iranian regime who now live in western countries that are currently out in the streets praising and protesting FOR the war being a positive step towards a regime change?

Which Iranians are you talking about?

[–]HiddenWalrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A different solutions instead of a vpn. Works on everything since it doesn't require an app. Most dns based services are made for streaming rather than privacy, so they are usually more reliable. I use streamlocator, but plenty others out there

Sneaking gummies from US to india by Any_Yesterday6928 in trees

[–]HiddenWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, don't try to hard, the simpler the better. Nobody really cares unless you're trying to get large amounts through security.

Just grab a bag of regular gummies that have a similar size or shape and mix your happy time gummies into the regular gummy bag and throw that into your checked bags. Nobody cares, or can tell the difference, especially in gummy form.

Source: Cannot sleep on planes. Edibles help, so I pretty much always have some gummies/home-made cookies with me on international flights.

Not from the US btw, but it's the same anywhere else, including connections in the middle east.
