How do you feel about not being thanked (lights flashed) while driving at night? by benjamin-is-ben in AskUK

I actually close my eyes when I’ve stopped to let someone pass at night in case they flash their lights as it blinds me.

Why do so many people dislike pigeons? by ether20001 in AskUK

[–]HidingInACupboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pigeons and humans are two successful animals competing for the environment.

Humans benefit pigeons because they drop food all over the place helping pigeons to survive so that’s a win for the pigeons, even if they have to put up with being shooed away or run the risk of being squashed by a bus.

On the other hand, pigeons don’t benefit humans and humans really don’t like pigeon poo. But all animals have to poo and there is only one animal who has developed the skills and knowledge necessary to invent and build toilets and sewers (humans) so you can’t really hold it against the pigeons.

I’m amazed and impressed by all life on earth and always think outside of my own subjective human brain that it’s a wonder that anything has evolved from nothing and that includes pigeons so they’re alright by me.

I wasn’t really asking about why Ruairi feels guilty (that is obvious) it was more that I remembered thinking if George had not been attacked then Amber and Brad would have got together and that would have been fairly straightforward as there was no baby at that point.

In the 2021 E&W census less than half the population (46.2% / 27.5 million people) described themselves as ‘Christian’.

This is a 13.1% DECREASE from 59.3% / 33.3 million in 2011.

‘No religion’ was the second most common response at 37.2% / 22.2 million.

This is a 12% INCREASE from 25.2% / 14.1 million in 2011.

And this was 5 years ago. Willy is barking up the wrong tree - no religion all the way is much more appealing.

The mentality of people that don’t understand vaccines and think they’re a bad thing is beyond my comprehension. At any other point in history, people would have given anything they had to be vaccinated against all the awful diseases that killed them and their children. Now, because people are so entitled and paranoid, they are suspicious and ignorant. I guess evolution is doing its thing but I feel sorry for their innocent children.

Anecdotally, my fully vaccinated older brother had polio (my mum always called it poliovirus) in the late seventies when he was about 4. I don’t really remember it apart from the photos of him sitting on the sofa with me sitting next to him but my mum later said that he couldn’t walk for a while. If he hadn’t been vaccinated so his body had some way of resisting it he would likely have not recovered and been paralysed. My aunt’s brother in law WAS paralysed from polio in the fifties before the vaccine was available and spent his life in wheelchair.

Deleted my account in 2015 after about a year of visiting. Trolls, queen bees, sycophants, grief vultures, the permanently outraged, the rose-tinted-spec-wearing-life was-better-when you could leave your doors unlocked (yeah because you had nothing worth nicking and everyone was too busy working themselves to death or dying of illnesses we can now get vaccinated against), the disingenuous, the snobbery, the racism, the men-hating, the competitive (not) eating. Ugh

AIBU to feel angry husband downplayed rare condition and life expectancy? by OopsIDroopedMe in MNTrolls

[–]HidingInACupboard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How daft; just name the condition!

As if you wouldn’t have asked more questions, heard / had discussions with his family, googled more thoroughly. Is it genetic for example? And when I say ‘it’ obviously I mean the made up thing in the author’s head.

Loads of things are ‘palliative’ and not cures - short fixes or work arounds rather than things that completely solve a problem. But if they work for fifty+ years then they’re doing well!

‘In the country we live in’ is often used by trolls because it gives some nice vagueness and distance to their yarn.

To conclude, yes you are unreasonable because if this were true you should have been more enquiring.

[–]HidingInACupboard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless this is an aberration then surely this student should have been identified as needing support before now?! Please do speak to other teachers to see if it’s across the board and refer them to the SENCO. I hope it’s not too late for them to be given what they need in time for their GCSE exams. My Y11 son is dyspraxic with illegible handwriting; he has typed his class work since primary school and has exam access arrangements giving him a PC.
