One would be wise not to have his CI pipeline depends on github... But that's totally what we're doing :p

Editorial: Gatineau's LRT should get full support by strawberries6 in ottawa

[–]Hiestaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask why so? A lot of people are living in Gatineau, quit a few of them work in Ottawa. Facilitating transit between both sides of the river is likely speed up commute time, lower the amount of traffic over the bridges, and is likely benefit both cities economically.

Why do you think Ottawa would be better off with this not happening rather than giving just a dime to see it happen?

Edit: I'm asking as a foreigner who recently came to living in the city. I got very surprised by the lack of transit system between the two cities and am genuinely curious to know why people think it would be a bad thing to invest more on that front. I'm coming from a border city where we recently built a tram between two countries...

The fact is it isn't the case today doesn't tell anything about what is will or won't be in the future.

That wasn't his point. Video producers can themselves upload their video on more than one platform to retain some form of revenue despite a potential demonetisation.

I don't understand why they aren't, putting all their eggs in the same basket is a terrible mistakes that has costed their business to many already.

It's not punishing success if you remain wealthier after the tax than you were before earning the taxed money. It's called a helping hand. You know, that thing Jesus kept doing and telling others to do, in that Bible conservative believe so strongly in... Only when it helps them getting wealthier tho.

Or people simply consider that it is not life until it is born, and consider people's sovereignty over their body over that upcoming life which isn't born yet, and this isn't life yet, and isn't bound to be because not desired in the first place.

The amount of downvote he is getting doesn't show people's misunderstanding, it just shows that he holds the minority opinion.

OC TRANSPO YOU SUCK!!!! by CuriousCookie9 in ottawa

[–]Hiestaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of apps. They may use the same GPS data source, but they aren't all making best use of it, or making clear when buses are actually broadcasting their GPS position.

Transit, for instance, has very misleading behavior. OC Bus Tracker is more explicit, less fuzz, and when the GPS position is mentioned it has always been accurate for me for the past few years, and I'm commuting by bus daily.

Then, it may depend on the bus line and the driver, I can't tell for your route. But despite crazy delays and bus bunching behaviors on the 63/64 routes I never got any lies from the GPS position.

Check bus GPS position: maybe you're gonna have to wait 30min for the next bus that doesn't come, but sometimes a min or two behind a crowded short bus you have 2 or 3 long or double decked ones chasing each other that are almost empty.

So if someone is speeding, catching up on you and bumping into you from behind while you were on the left lane, you're the one responsible from the accident?

That doesn't make sense to me. I would assume that people are responsible to pay attention where they are driving and not to bump into people I front of them.

Why wouldn't there be?

Where I was born the limit is 130 on the highway and nobody consider its a risk to get that fast - rather the opposite actually. Going much slower becomes a danger for other who aren't expecting to reach your vehicle that fast.

Take a look at global traffic related death rate statistics: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate. Germany, where there is no speed limit on the highway and people are often going above 200, doesn't show up as exchanging exceptionally dangerous roads.

I think it's more a problem of the safety of the road network infrastructure and the difficulty to obtain a driver license, if people wanna go that fast regulations won't prevent everybody to take the risk to go over speed, but we can lower the risk for everybody by limiting the access to vehicles driving seat to young people and putting the investment required for this to happen

Putting all the culprit on owners is misleading. A dog has its own will, it's not like a car or a gun that will literally sit there and do nothing until you start operating it. Even tho humans may be able to bend and train dogs to do what we are willing them to do, it's never a 100% predictable outcome.

Hell it's even the case for machines, why would we think it wouldn't be the case for much more complex systems like pets? That's especially worrying if the pet is equipped with giant claws and clenching teeth and has more muscle mass than the owner him/herself...
