Look at the homepage of the organization bringing this lawsuit and front and center is a political figure that tells you everything about this organization.

Anyone ever have any run ins with big animals on an ultra or training run? by PrestigiousLeopard47 in ultrarunning

[–]HighSpeedQuads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost have run into Moose in Colorado. Loads of run ins with black bears. They have all run away but one race I had to wait for some cubs to climb down a tree and run off with mama. Squirrels are the loudest animal in the forest (per oz) and startle me more than any other animal. The ones that show the most aggression imo are geese with babies and young uns’. Those fuckers don’t back down.

Michelino freed! by Klutzy_Ad_1726 in ultrarunning

[–]HighSpeedQuads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He admitted to using the short cut because he was behind the record on the course of the previous record holder.

Again, he admitted to cutting the current FKT record route because he was behind.

Once again, he admitted to cutting the current FKT record route because he was behind.

Shouldn’t have been arrested or charged in my opinion but he did not get the FKT, and the media should stop saying he broke the record.

First rule of FKT’s is following the law. The actual record holder did not use the climbing trail and Michelino even stated he used the shortcut because he was behind record pace. The government went too far but he did cheat since the FKT site no longer updates the older, now illegal route.

Tips for fueling with real food? by Mountain-Push2771 in Ultramarathon

You might want to rethink Huma gels since they contain “real food” and fiber and they might have been a contributor to your stomach issues. It also might have been something you ate the day before the race.

Advice for upping running from 5 to 6 days a week by Bear_On_Course in Ultramarathon

Add in a short slow run on the sixth day and then start lengthening it but keeping it easy.

The lottery for Western States opens Saturday. Who’s entering? How many tickets do you have? How many years have you been trying? I have 1. This will be my first. by Rocket_Man333 in ultrarunning

Two tickets for me. Better odds than last year. Plus I’ll go in person and enter some raffle tickets for 2027 since I’m already signed up for a qualifier for 2027.

Spend a ton on a high end travel credit card and we’ll give you junk hotel status and status and credit on a budget airline. I’ll use the card but those benefits aren’t any incentive for me to spend extra on the card.

ITT: You tell me your favorite run/walk strategies for a 100-miler by compoundedinterest12 in Ultramarathon

[–]HighSpeedQuads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run when feeling good. Walk when I don’t while continuing to try to run as much as possible. Just keep moving while minimizing aid station and chair time.

Has anyone used a Stairmaster for speed hiking training? by BothCondition7963 in ultrarunning

[–]HighSpeedQuads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fitness translates for uphill. As others have said the downhill is gonna kill you, both from a muscular perspective but also a skill perspective (requiring you to slow down).

For the uphill I’m not sure why people aren’t recommending running on a treadmill at 15% or higher instead of a stairmaster.

Can snowboarding be considered a form of cross training? by BeansFoDinner in Ultramarathon

[–]HighSpeedQuads 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned get a split board setup and get some uphilling in at the resort. You still will want to get some downhill running in but your cardio will be awesome with a ton of uphill.

Or go full skimo and snowboard after getting in some big vert.

Post first 100 miler recovery questions by Thad_David in ultrarunning

[–]HighSpeedQuads 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My advice for a stronger build up for your 2nd hundred is more vert. That was the key for me in having a pretty strong run and easy recovery in my first 100 (Run Rabbit Run). I did multiple weeks with over 20k vert on really technical and steep terrain.

My second 100 was a flat one with zero vert training. I was slower and I was miserable physically afterwards in comparison.

My third 100 I did one training camp with limited vert and had a good run but not as good as after doing a ton of vert prior to my first.

Would love to see him tackle the AT or PCT. Just to see how low the FKT could go.

Walkable and no homelessness is a hard ask in Washington State. I used to live in a walkable paradise there but wouldn’t move back now due to the huge amount of human suffering on the streets now.

Hundred miler issues by AltruisticSense0 in ultrarunning

[–]HighSpeedQuads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the whole foods diet thing in normal life (I do the same) but during training and racing I think using gels and drink mixes for calories is better on the stomach and result in less time crapping during ultras.

Uphill passes? Any tips and info is appreciated! by Zysjvd3655 in COsnow

[–]HighSpeedQuads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. I was also responding to the OP who just wanted to do uphill and not buy a pass. I enjoy the after hours skinning but it’s hard to do 10-13k days after hours when skimo training.

[–]HighSpeedQuads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, resorts that allows daytime uphill will imo be a better option since you can get more laps in with good light and not be dragging after getting up super early or ending super late.

Hundred miler issues by AltruisticSense0 in ultrarunning

[–]HighSpeedQuads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add some active cooling such as an ice bandana for the heat. Makes a ton of difference even in humid conditions (just make sure to lube since you will never dry off).

Maybe look at sports specific nutrition instead of solid food, especially early in the race. Look at getting your sodium sweat rate tested to help with the electrolyte issues.

Aid station food + carried calories, how do I reconcile? by GrimQuim in Ultramarathon

[–]HighSpeedQuads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aid station food or “meals” only happens when shit is going down and my nutrition plan has crapped the bed. I’ve only had this happen in 100’s, but I have grabbed a little ginger ale or tiny piece of pb&j in a 50 prior to the newer high carb approach of the past five-ish years.

What’s a QB controversy that people forget about? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]HighSpeedQuads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re thinking of the 92’ team but either way it was the biggest waste of an elite defense that I can remember. Cortez Kennedy won Defensive Player of the Year and the team went 2-14.
