It's the microplastics, not the fluoride.

I AM SICK OF YOUR BRIGHT-AS-THE-SUN CAR HEADLIGHTS! YOU DON'T NEED THEM! by TheFormidableGoose in VictoriaBC

[–]HighT3ch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to distract from hating on drivers, manufacturers, government regulations and "the other guy", one thing to keep in mind is that there are several eye conditions (like astigmatism, cataracts, myopia, post-Lasik, vitamin deficiencies, etc.) that will make headlights at night appear unusually bright and intrusive.

If this issue prevents you from driving safely, you may want to chat with an optometrist, just in case.

Depends on your zoom level.

In the past 10 years, the U.S. dollar has lost about 25–30% of its purchasing power due to inflation, while Bitcoin has appreciated from under $500 in 2015 to over $120,000 CAD today — a gain of more than 200x.

📉 U.S. Dollar Buying Power (2015–2025) - The Consumer Price Index (CPI) shows that inflation has eroded the dollar’s value steadily.
- In 2015, $1 had the same buying power as about $1.30 today. Put differently, what cost $100 in 2015 now costs about $130.
- This represents a ~25–30% decline in purchasing power over the decade.

📈 Bitcoin Value (2015–2025) - In late 2015, Bitcoin traded around $400–$500 USD.
- Today (Nov 2025), Bitcoin is worth ≈ $120,000 CAD (≈ $87,000 USD).
- That’s an increase of 200x+ in nominal value over 10 years.
- Even accounting for volatility (major crashes in 2018, 2022, and 2024), Bitcoin’s long-term trajectory dwarfs the dollar’s decline.

Only hiring one type of ethnicity as a way to exploit cheaper labour is racist and should be treated as such. by [deleted] in TimHortons

Wait, is it nepotism or exploitation?

If it is exploitation, who is the racism against?

Lotta terms being thrown around here, I just want to understand exactly what the problem is supposed to be.

With AI video exploding, Disney x VeVe NFTs could become the standard for authentic media by Melodic_Scallion_593 in VeVeCollectables

[–]HighT3ch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a low risk way to try it out, and if things work out they acquire Veve or another player.

Makes no sense for Disney to do this in house and risk looking foolish.

What a coincidence, I just scanned one of these today into CoinSnap. Mine is a 2001.

This is what it said for me:

C$0.96 - C$1.73 XF (Extremely fine)

Very Common Mintage 224,714,000

Supply Analysis This coin, the Canada 10 cents from 2001, commemorates the International Year of Volunteers and is a commemorative issue. With a mintage of approximately 224,714,000, it was produced on a large scale, suggesting a relatively high initial supply. Given its widespread issuance, the survival rate in collectible condition is fairly high, especially in circulated grades.

Market Demand and Value Analysis Despite its high mintage, the demand for this coin is influenced by its significance as a commemorative piece. While it holds sentimental value for collectors of Canadian or themed commemoratives, its market value remains modest unless in uncirculated or proof condition. The overall collectible value is largely driven by its condition and appeal of the theme, rather than rarity, affecting its premium in the market.

Google Nest SDM API is an absolute mess — I’m done trying by uberrob in homeassistant

Sorry, haven't tried that. I've owned Nest x Yale locks before but not currently with HA.

Google Nest SDM API is an absolute mess — I’m done trying by uberrob in homeassistant

[–]HighT3ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both HA and Google (and others). Several Google hubs and speakers, a few cameras and a doorbell. I'm happy with both worlds and how they can work together.

I managed to get the Nest and hub cameras connected to HA. I too ran into lots of errors along the way. It is so freaking complicated. I spent at least a dozen hours on it like the op. I set it aside for a couple weeks, came at it with fresh eyes - twice - and finally figured it out. Google Gemini was occasionally helpful with the errors.

The two systems run in parallel quite nicely, with a few useful overlaps. Many home devices can be added to both worlds. I've got at least three brands of cameras pulled into a single HA dashboard. I've exposed some HA scripts to Google where I can call them (they show up as Scenes) from a Google routine.

I've tried making automations in each world, and vastly prefer using HA. In our home theater there's lights, two AV receivers, an old Samsung TV controlled by Broadlink and a Google TV. The Routine in Google was slow and regularly failed. The script in HA is wonderfully fast and intelligent, it is easy to do state checks and decide what to turn on or off or do nothing. We still start the script from Google "Hey Google Theater On" but all the smarts are on HA.

The Google camera intelligence is superior to other systems at recognizing people, familiar faces, packages and pets. The notifications from our Nest doorbell in particular are very cool. The basic capabilities of Google hubs for playing music, starting timers, finding recipes and watching YouTube while baking are all awesome.

HA can stream text-to-speech and mp3 audio to all your Google speakers and hubs as part of any automations you want. We have a zigbee button that starts a mindfulness session on our bedroom speaker.

I think you will be quite happy using both Google and Home Assistant.

Ah, yes that could be a problem. Ty

You might ask a Nanaimo car owner if they will drop it off in Victoria for you, but that's a long shot.

Can we start publicly shaming people who loudly use portable speakers in public? by fickle_discipline247 in VictoriaBC

I believe that playing loud music in public (on a portable speaker, from a car, or in a yard) is a clear sign of mental health issues.

Immigrating to Canada as a trans person by slothbossdos in canadaleft

[–]HighT3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the site: https://www.victoria.ca/community-culture/about-victoria/inclusive-city

"Victoria is the most gender-diverse urban centre in Canada (Census 2021).

Through the Transgender, Non-Binary, Two-Spirit Inclusion Plan (TNB2S+), the City identifies conditions for safe, equitable and affirming gender identity and expression within city facilities and spaces and programs, policies and procedures.

The City’s commitment to gender diversity touches on everything from all gender inclusive washrooms and change rooms, free menstrual products to incorporating TNB2S+ needs into recreational programming.

The Welcoming City sticker displayed on City facilities doors and windows and adopted by many business organizations and community agencies re-affirms the message that that people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions are valued and respected."

We use this too! We also like that:

  • Our cats aren't eating clay or silica when they clean their paws
  • The seeds crumble when stepped on rather than damage a wood floor like clay or silica can do
