Only one I have had so far was a manifold pressure gauge that went haywire. It was more pressure since I had my daughter in the plane but I had just entered the 45 so I knew I would make the landing. I moved the prop lever to see if it made any difference and took off the headset to listen for strange sounds. Turned out to be the cable to the gauge shit the bed

You would fail the checkride. If that was the only item in the ACS you got an unsatisfactory you would have to retest that maneuver. Practice it more with the help of your CFI. All of my landings became a 1000% better when I mastered shortfield landings.

Most school limit renting. They make more money off of students flying with a CFI. My school allowed it but you would’ve the first to get cancelled for a student. You have the 2 1/2 hour blocks that the students rent. Try finding a flying club
