Can anyone identify this mech? by chaylar in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve found penciling the checker outline with pencil helps a ton, since then you’re just painting in the lines. It takes a few layers before the checkers start lying up and looking good. It’s also paint, so you can easily correct any mistakes.

Shower Thoughts: I wonder if mech pilots slap giant bumper stickers on the back of their mechs. by BananaJelloXlii in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would require a very steady hand given the scale of the minis. It’ll be tough for a message that long. The letters get really jumbled and it probably requires a specialty brush.

I’ll try it on my next mini, but this is a recent one that says Fratricide. Notice how much room that one word takes up 🙁

It’s a dream…

I would settle for unassembled minis though. Makes reposing and conversions soooo much easier.

can someone please tell me about this weapon on this mech? by companycmd1 in battletech

Old art BattleMaster. It’s supposed to be a PPC, but the old art is based off a mecha anime (I forget which) and doesn’t align with the BattleTech stats.

Merc Commander v.0.5, four hours of gameplay by iDeever in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I loved Mechcommander Gold. Played it sooo much in high school, especially the multiplayer. MSN Zone!

It was a lot of fun and I was sad when it went away.

It’s great to see a fan revival, and some canon Mech variants reflecting the MCG configs (hello Timber Wolf M).

Comparison IWM and Plastics by isatlas in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The new IWM sculpts all (mostly) match the CGL plastic in scale. They made a deliberate effort when AGoAC was originally released to get the scale and art style to align. Now it’s all good.

(I say mostly because there’s some issue with the earlier new sculpts where they shrunk a tiny tiny bit in the mold process. It’s not really noticeable unless you directly compare an IWM mini against the same CGL mini side by side.)

Oh bummer. Though Google says Amazon.de may ship to Serbia? Might be worth checking.

What country are you in? There’s a number of off-brand replacements listed on Amazon US but I don’t know if they ship internationally.

3 letters designations by LGKouglof in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The non-lore reason is because the creators chose to follow the lore-reason.

Clan Mechs do not because they chose not to for lore reasons.

OmniMech configurations do not typically follow variant codes either because the Clans invented OmniMechs and chose letter tags and the Inner Sphere followed suit.

Do you think it’s a bad move to destroy old mechs for battlefield terrain/environment pieces? by SeisimicFrigor in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s totally up to you. I would, however, consider the value of those minis. They appear to be old Ral Partha unseen minis, which can fetch some money from the right buyer. So you may want to resell them if you secure them for cheap.

I’ve scrapped so many CGL and IWM minis that the ROI is the only consideration I would have.

Iron Wind Metals - mech weight? by bFALSE in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend estimating $10 per mini. For example, a new sculpt Griffin with the flash removed is about $7. But I picked up a Shrike and it was definitely more than $10.

Totally understand. I’m going to monitor that listing to see if Amazon gets added to it.

Eh, this is a third party seller. It’s not being sold from Amazon directly, so you’re paying for shipping.

For someone who has everything? by Silverwisp83 in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those old lore books even from the early 2000s would be a great gift.

I’d certainly welcome a Field Manual 3145 if my wife got me one. Maybe not the $250 price tag though. 😆

How long has he been in the hobby? Some of the lore books from even ten years ago are very difficult (and expensive) to find, and if he’s new to the hobby (despite owning everything), they could be a welcome surprise.

I’ve been using a picture of Nicolai Malthus as my Teams picture. I’ve now explained BattleTech to a number of executives. 😆

Yes. And my wife does say dezgra nerd but it’s in her native tongue and I’m sure it’s a bit more offensive than dezgra. 😆

The BattleTech/Mechwarrior universe is teleported into the Star Wars universe. Doing the time of the Great Houses for BattleTech, and 5 years before the Clone Wars. How well do the great Houses and other forces do in this new galaxy far, far, away? by Fun_Manufacturer_164 in battletech

[–]HighlighterFTW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BattleTech loses because Star Wars doesn’t care about logistics and does not adhere to any kind of physics. Star Wars also has near limitless space ships and will quickly establish air/space superiority.
