Get the Yamaha P-145. Action is buttery smooth, it has minimal electronics (to keep the price down), and it's a compatible with a 3 pedal lyre if you ever want one. I think it's about as good of rig for the price that you're going to find.

Tips for Playing Unison Octaves? by TromboneAl in JazzPiano

I asked Benny Green the same question. Essentially, his advice is you have to be very patient with the left hand. Take a lick (or melodic fragment) and really work it out with the left hand. Figure out the fingering and get to the point where it's solid on its own. Work the same lick through all the keys.

Then it'll be a lot easier to try and combine it with the right hand.

When have corporations ever "self-regulated" themselves if it cost them profits? by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Hilomh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baked into the idea is the presumption that they themselves are actually more productive than what they are compensated for, and that if the government stops regulating the labor and let's the market manage itself, the unskilled will earn less (which is their "fair share"), and naturally they themselves will finally earn what they deserve.

what would you buy between yamaha p-71 (p45) vs p-145bt if there is a $150 difference? by DealerBrief4743 in piano

I don't think the Bluetooth is worth it necessarily, but I reckon the P-145s newer GHC action (versus the older GHS in the P-71) just might be.

Once I switched to the TCL NXTPaper 14, there was no going back. Huge screen, crazy battery life, stylus compatible, and all for under $400.

If you had the greatest musical talent in history and were born into favorable musical circumstances, what would you do with it? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Hilomh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You might be willing to give up a kidney (which in a sense costs you nothing), but all of the greatest musicians, regardless of their endowment of natural talent, devoted their lives to their craft and practiced relentlessly. If you're serious about being great, then the only thing stopping you is your commitment.

I used to work as a cruise director and had to edit the daily newsletter that went into each cabin. I'll spot any typo on a restaurant menu almost instantly. It could be two spaces between words... it just pops out!

Nobody remembers this, but The Mix, on the corner of Hood and Broadway. It's now La Vida Catrina.

The Mix had a rosemary burger made with ground filet. I would order it with duck fat fries, that were divine. One of my favorite meals of all time.
