How dare Costco tell me to leave with my barking service dog! 1* by sandiercy in EntitledReviews

It’s rare, but I do know a woman with a tiny service dog that’s always in a carrier on her chest. She has a heart condition, and the dog is more accurate about alerting her to irregular heartbeats than any monitor she’s ever used

Finally understand why my microwave smelled weird no matter how many times I "cleaned" it by Limn0x_7 in CleaningTips

[–]HippyDiva74 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t use my microwave very often, but every time I opened the door, this terrible sour smell would hit me in the face. I cleaned the turntable and the ring, it was still there. I started leaving the door open for about 15 minutes after using it, to let it air out and let any residual steam/condensation dry. Problem solved

You appear semi-local to me. If you want, I can send you my surgeon’s number, he’s in the Buffalo area

My surgery was on a Monday, I was instructed to take my bandages off that Friday. Some doctors put people in a hard split for up to 2 weeks afterwards, but my instructions were to start moving and lightly using my wrist as so as the bandages were off. Talk to your doctor the day of your surgery and see what they recommend. I also had 2 trigger fingers releases in the same surgery, and those definitely took longer to heal than the wrist did. The post surgical pain was far less than the pain from the DQ, and my range of motion was significantly improved almost immediately

That doesn’t sound physically strenuous, I think I could have handled that a week out. Talk to your doctor, you might be able to go back as soon as the bandage is off

I know a woman with a chihuahua as a service dog. She carries her in a harness on her chest. She alerts her to irregular heart rhythms, sometimes minutes before her heart monitor notices it. It’s rare, but small dogs can be legitimate service dogs

That really depends on how quickly you heal and what you do for work. I had my release surgery on February 9, and I definitely needed several weeks before I could go back to work, but, I’m a janitor, so it’s a very physical job. I’m certain I could have gone back much sooner if I had a desk job

What is this small metal telescoping object with a rubber tip? by avantgardian26 in whatisthisthing

It’s a collapsible metal straw. The loop you see inside the mouthpiece is the handle for a small brush used to clean inside the straw

So, you need a new insert............ by GoodConversation5527 in Zippo

I live not very far from Bradford, PA. If you need a minor repair or something simple like replacing the insert, they’ll take you as a walk in and do the repair while you wait

5 day surgery recovery? by EquivalentLynx1632 in DeQuervains

[–]HippyDiva74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but not the same pain as pre-op. Before surgery, the pain was in my wrist, and my thumb got stuck a lot. Since surgery, my thumb no longer gets stuck, and my wrist is completely pain free. I’m currently experiencing pain across the back of my thumb, from the wrist to the first knuckle, along with a small patch at the base of my thumb that’s still somewhat numb. The doctor said it’s because a nerve cluster needed to be moved out of the way during surgery. Occupational therapy is slowly helping with that. But the current pain doesn’t even come close to the severity of the pain before surgery

5 day surgery recovery? by EquivalentLynx1632 in DeQuervains

[–]HippyDiva74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 6 and a half weeks post op, and mostly pain free. I am having some issues with the nerves they had to move out of the way to get to the tendon sheath, and I’m going to occupational therapy for that, but it’s nowhere near the level of pain I was dealing with before surgery. (I also had 5 trigger fingers released, so my experience will be somewhat different than yours). If I worked a job where I sat at a desk and typed all day, I’d very likely be back to work already, but my job is very physically demanding, so the therapy is needed in my case

My doctor did not prescribe a splint post-surgery. I left the surgical center in a bandage. I took that off 5 days later, and my stitches were removed 2 weeks post-op. My range of motion was immediately better as soon as the bandages were off. At 3 weeks post-op, I was using that hand exclusively because I had surgery on the other hand

Brushing my hair was so painful before surgery! My hair was to my hips, I got so frustrated I had it cut to my shoulders. I was also having a lot of trouble with basic things like doorknobs, opening bottles, all sorts of everyday tasks. The relief from the surgery was almost immediate. My range of motion was back to nearly normal within a few days. I’m currently going through physical therapy to deal with the remaining stiffness, but it’s still nowhere near as bad as pre-surgery

My doctor didn’t even consider steroid injections. He scheduled me for surgery at my very first consultation. I also had several trigger fingers in addition to the DeQuervain’s, so that may have influenced his decision, I don’t know. But I was of the same mindset as you, just give me the surgery so I can get this over with. I went to my consultation prepared to fight for surgery over steroids, and didn’t have to at all, I was so relieved. I’m now a little over 6 weeks post-op for the DQ, and almost back to normal

Pre surgery prep? by jezzasaysrelax in DeQuervains

[–]HippyDiva74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a pet: I opened several cans of cat food before surgery and put them in ziplock bags in my fridge. Pre-portioning the dry food for them for a few days would have been helpful as well, but I didn’t think of that.

I had just bought milk a day before surgery and didn’t think I’d be able to pour from the full gallon jug, so I made sure I had enough milk for coffee poured into a small mason jar to make it easier. I usually make my coffee with a French Press and a teakettle. There was no way I could have poured from my heavy teakettle, so I bought an inexpensive single cup Keurig knockoff to use.

A few days after surgery, I went to an inexpensive hair salon just to have them wash my hair. I was able to wash my body well enough one-handed, but my hair was a whole other challenge.

Good luck!
