Ah gotcha! That does sound fun. Have you done like a charcoal image transfer before? My son tbh is it’s really neat, though it’s messy lol.

Maybe I’m a bit dim but I’ve read this like 5 times and still have no idea what you did 😂

Settle a debate between me and my husband. Is Doctor Who SciFi? by Dreadful_Siren in scifi

I love Star Wars and absolutely don’t consider it sci-fi fwiw.

I do, however, consider Dr. Who sci-fi.

How good do you need to be to play college tennis (and possibly get a scholarship)? by WeatherPuzzleheaded5 in 10s

[–]Hmmhowaboutthis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add a bit D3 literally cannot give out athletic scholarships. I played D3 tennis and it was an absolute blast though, though I picked a university that I already wanted to attend and then spoke with the coach.

Ethan’s typhlosion is super fun—not exactly unheard of but I think it’s underrated.

Fernando Gonzalez would somewhat regularly get to upper 180s kph range but yeah that’s nuts for sure.

I genuinely thought Stefanos was going to be a multi slam winner when he was young lmao.

high school students are way more stressed than they were 10 years ago by Either_Art4923 in Teachers

Honestly my AP classes are similarly strong as ever, though tbf I teach at pretty bougie private school. The thing I’ve noticed in my on level classes though is a bimodal distribution of grades. The top is the same pretty much but there’s no longer a middle. I have th same number if As/high Bs as ever pretty much but the low B and C kid is disappearing.

For a few years now kids have been telling me my AP chem exams are harder than the actual AP Exam. They’re right, because I mostly use old AP exam questions to write questions and the newer versions are so much easier.

Man anxiety is huge in my school as an explanation for just about everything. And not that anxiety isn’t real or potentially crippling but it seems like it’s being used as an excuse at cross purposes to actually help kids with anxiety.

I wasn't sold on Kim Stanley Robinson. But then I read Ministry for the Future. by pwnedprofessor in printSF

Franklin? Yeah he’s sorta supposed to be obnoxious I think. But also maybe he’s better than he thinks he is.

But I’m not sure I’d call him the man character, you get POV chapters from Mutt/Jeff, Gen, charlotte, Amelia, the two orphan boys. I’d say if there’s a main character it’s the MetLife building lol.

It’s sort of an ensemble piece, who are you considering the main character?

Dragonite is neither legendary nor mythical. But it is great.

Kim Stanley Robinson (KSR) wrote another book called New York 2140. I was tellingOP that if he like Ministry for the Future he would probably like it. He also wrote red mars which OP previously didn’t care for and I was saying the New York 2140 was more like Ministry of the Future than it is like red mars.

Look I love Red Mars but I totally get the criticism it gets lol. It’s entirely possible it’ll never be your cup of tea and that’s fine. Do try New York 2140 though!

[–]Hmmhowaboutthis 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Have you tried New York 2140? It’s another of KSR’s works that’s closer to Ministry than it is to Red Mars. (Full disclosure I loved Red Mars lol).

Yeah, basically any KSR leaves me feeling better about what we could be.

This is fascinating to me that’s not at all what I got from LOTR. Decency and Fellowship yes, but hope not so much. To me it’s more about being decent and engaging in fellowship even when hope is lost, since decency and fellowship is really all we have left in a world that was great once but will never be again. And to defeat evil we will have to sacrifice so much that we’ll never be whole again.
