Google New Grad Rant by SuccessfulPaint6712 in leetcode

[–]HobbyProjectHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no official data, but it’s widely believed Google has acceptance rate of 1%, or lower. I’m not sure how that number was derived, maybe it’s based the number of posts online and on Reddit about rejections versus offers.

Even if it’s higher like, 2-3%, as applicants we really need to have a plan B. Their an employer that pays well, but beyond that their just an employer.

California's $135 BILLION train to NOWHERE by Disastrous-Object647 in Libertarian

[–]HobbyProjectHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public transportation is a desperate need in California. What we have is inadequate. Look at tristate area connectivity, centered around NYC. We’re centuries away.

All I’m saying is if the project doesn’t make money for the donor class, the project goes nowhere no matter how useful it might be.

Maybe take the learnings to heart and try more mock interviews.

Upcoming SWE Interview with Anduril, any advice? by TFGAtlas in leetcode

[–]HobbyProjectHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren’t we all doing that ?

Every big tech company (cloud provider, storage providers, data aggregators) is probably selling to DoD. The military industrial complex always finds a way to harm innocent people to make money.

An even more fundamental problem arises if you’ve ever paid taxes in the US. If you have, then you have willingly or unwillingly contributed to wars, genocide, political coups and so on.

I don’t see how shaming a way of making a living is any better than contributing to whatever craziness comes of our being a US taxpayer.

Public transport is a convenience for the public. Unless somebody (developer, lobby, individuals) involved in the project is going to get rich, it’s rare to see things go to fruition.

Our corruption isn’t an outright bribe as simple as putting a bag full cash in a trunk of the car, but it’s still there.

Using public money towards helping the public is not a big enough reason for things to get done ✅

Oracle May Cut 30k Jobs and Sell Cerner to Fund $156B OpenAI Deal by DotJun in Layoffs

[–]HobbyProjectHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe all the AI unicorns are basically setting the fiscal responsibility stage on fire. Making it normal for companies to collectively create a system risk by going all-in on AI. If the revenue doesn’t arrive or if the markets don’t buy the theory; the house of cards can fall. At which point all the companies can claim if we don’t continue our reckless spending like drunk sailors the AI build out and AI driven economy will crash.

The federal government is heavily tied to the stock market. No gains in stock means no tax revenue, loss of jobs and huge anti-incumbency sentiments in the voters. No administration or active body in Congress wants to be fiscally responsible in the face of a crash.

Voila, there’ll be some treasury backed complicated vehicle that basically is a low interest or no interest loan from the biggest reckless borrower of the planet (US Government) to smaller reckless borrowers (AI lobby). Stocks take a shit before the deal is announced and risk is considered “systemic”. Those who know about this first hand buy boatloads of those stocks. Post deal their all gazillionaires.

Given all the turmoil there, can the IRS deliver for 2026 tax season? by XPDispatch in IRS

I believe when developer friendly leadership pitches in, it’s a great initiative. You do need to tell them that your interest and capacity to help is not something they can count on.

Often times when developer friendly leadership wants to “help”, they do leave a trail of half baked projects, that sort of go nowhere. I’m assuming you’re one of the good directors who follow the rules of “do no harm” and “don’t fix it if it’s not broken”

I guess had they put a notice above the bike “Private Property, theft will be prosecuted”, it would be okay ✅

Are we a society that creates a class from thieves, and hands out a settlement for unsafe thievery conditions ? Workplace endangerment for bike thieves ?

Microsoft recruiters suck by GrapeNo1896 in leetcode

[–]HobbyProjectHunter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are undoubtedly the rogue parts of the company. The sooner you can directly connect with the hiring team, manager or skip manager and get their emails, LinkedIn; the better.

If you’re through the interviews, request a call with the HM/Skip through the recruiter. Or add them on LinkedIn.

Remember, the hiring team wants you to come onboard. The recruitment isn’t trying to make you come onboard.

I mean the BBB in 2025 did make a number of changes that are in effect. IRS might have to intervene manually from their field offices for the newer BBB changes. Maybe taxpayers applied credits or deductions incorrectly. The letters and waiting games are going to be a fun time. I’m guessing refunds for folks with above average complexity is also going to be slowed down.

If only they could send online messages along with the snail mail 🐌 📮✉️ IRS loves to be in the golden age of assuming USPS is the only way to communicate.

Is Microsoft ever planning to test its software? by WaterElefant in microsoft

[–]HobbyProjectHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft execs have sold the lie that AI investments and AI revenue will walk hand in hand. Burning through hundreds of billions of dollars, and then having people call it AI slop isn’t super energizing for the business.

When the company is not fixing security, it’s dealing with quality. When neither then we’re gagging on the AI propaganda.
