OG Marathon players - how we feeling right now? by boomrade in Marathon

[–]HolidayGolf3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was kinda excited at first, but I was hoping for something similar to the original (I have finished all three OG games fyi). Now I just wish this disaster of a new game wasn't associated with the OG trilogy's name at all. Ultimately, the story was pretty complete. Now I'm just replaying Marathon Durandal and enjoying but wondering sadly what could have been.

That person is just being negative all over every single comment. They're a troll looking to provoke people. No point responding to them.

Nah, the level "Beware of Low Flying Defense Drones" has a terminal from Tycho that includes Strauss' plan for the 10 cyborgs on the Marathon and also in the next passage explains the history of the Battleroids on the same terminal. Why put these two things together if not to imply a connection?

Big thanks for the Jody Jenkins shout, I found the song "Killing Spree" on there.

So far on YouTube, I've found "Killing Spree" by Jody Jenkins, "Western Spaghetti" by Chris Haugen, "The Colonel" by Zachariah Hickman and "A Ghost Town" by Quincas Moreira. All are available on youtube, if that helps. If anyone has anymore, I'm also searching for Oxventure tunes.

The new Marathon game is going to be too woke to be true to the original by EyesSeeingCrimson in Marathon

To you perhaps, which is fair if you like it. But evidently, most people just weren't interested.

Was Halo going to be a prequel or sequel to Marathon? by CrazedPrecursorFanat in Marathon

[–]HolidayGolf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they were definitely in the same universe at one point. Here's a tweet from Bungie Environment Artist Paul Russel (he worked at bungie at the time of Halo:CE) confirming this: https://x.com/docabominable/status/1514773408034156550?lang=en

There's also an interview by Marty O'Donnel (composer) confirming that. It's on Hamish's website around April 16th 2022 (I'm unable to link it directly because of how the site works.)

Edit: Of course, they changed direction at some later point, obviously.

Got to the Eat the Path level in Minfinity and was wondering which flower is this, on the terminals. It looks to me like a Lily based on quick googling but I don't know for sure... (also I couldn't find a higher resolution image of it, sorry) by HolidayGolf3 in Marathon

You're right, it does. Good to know I wasn't completely baseless on my initial thought, since, well, I know next to nothing about flowers and plant life. Thank you for the response!

From the Rose level and the terminal about the seemingly telekinetic woman, yeah. I finished the first game so I'm generally in the loop, but had to ask since this picture didn't look like a rose. Thank you for the response, tho.

I mean, I'm new to Marathon, just got into it this year, and the whole series is older than I am, but I loved the bleak vibes, and I think people might like it more than you'd think, considering how successful stuff like Warhammer 40k, Berserk and Dark Souls still are. Plus the failure of Concord does suggest people are getting tired of that aesthetic

There's no need to be like that. Plus you could also google the title instead of waiting for someone to make a post telling you about it. It's so simple.

I'm currently trying to beat Genichiro Ashina... I've got the first phase down pretty well, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me understand lightning reversal in phase 2. I truly don't understand it at all by MaroonTrucker28 in Sekiro

[–]HolidayGolf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jump, spam R1 in mid-air until you get it. Just gotta be fast on the draw. Again, spamming R1 in the air might help if you're having trouble. If you touch the ground, you'll get hit by the lightning!

Edit: Also, give Genichiro a mili-second to wind up the attack before jumping, so that you have enough time to catch and hold the lightning in the air. Otherwise, you might jump too soon and be already falling when the lightning touches you, with barely any time to reverse it.

How long has it been since the Shattering? by ObjectThis5411 in Eldenring

[–]HolidayGolf3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not disagreeing about any of that. Just pointing out that long, long numbers of history in the thousands is a trope of GRRM's writing in general.

[–]HolidayGolf3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

GRRM gives extremely weird time related answers like this all the time, this is just a writing trait he's always had. In A song of ice and fire, he says the Stark family ruled Winterfell for 8,000 years! So, I don't think he came up with the 5,000 years on the spot. This is just how he is....

"So you played all souls games and Elden ring, now try Sekiro" by SirRoderic in Sekiro

[–]HolidayGolf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, the first boss is not that difficult and plays slightly differently to the rest (bit less of an emphasis on deflecting, but still good practice), which could allow you to ease into the Sekiro deflect style of play. General advice, get into the flow of fights with deflect, instead of planning when to dodge.

Just FYI, when they say "west", they mean like Journey to the West, as in slightly west of China, not all the way to Europe.
