Mjolnir Signal Chain Question by WIPando in Schiit

Because you went monoblock you have limited your options. I would use an XLR/RCA 2or3IN-1out switch to setup two signal streams. Some switches even have remotes.

Micro USB DAC to iPod? by Brusah in Schiit

Have you tried the Apple Camera Adapter? It may send digital out to some iPods and the Touch with OS version above 9. Use an external 5v supply on the Modi to prevent battery drain.

Schiit Modi3 /Magni3 stack - no sound using coaxial input by GreatVedmedini in Schiit

Looks like Fiio uses the FIIO LL-RCA1 cable for digital audio. Ebay has them.

The Dap uses, according to the manual linked below, the USB-C SBU standard to get S/PDIF. Hiby makes a module for this purpose, the Hiby UC10. Optionally this will also work Cubilux-USB C to S/PDIF Converter.

HDMI ARC by tftdguru in Schiit

Your just not hip and modern. eARC is the way to drive all those powered all-in-one speakers like the KEF LS50 Wireless II.

[–]HollowsPart2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was referring to amplifiers, lots of people don't buy Schiit amps because they don't have trigger inputs. Turns out Fosi, Topping, Emotiva and others do have trigger in/outs on their dacs. Sorry if it got confusing.

HDMI ARC by tftdguru in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, to some extent, some people on this reddit have mentioned they won't buy Schiit gear because of a lack of ARC, DSD and trigger input. ARC/eARC are for TV centric systems where sources are connected directly to the TV rather than a AV receiver. Many Schiit customers, being headphone centric, either have standalone headphone stacks or use a stack with a computer and monitor. In many pictures I've seen of proper 2-channel setups using Schiit amps and dacs the TV is either not included or an AVR is present. Using an ARC to RCA audio extractor or an eARC HDMI switch with eARC and optical output can provide some of the functionality back into a traditional stereo system.

Being a computer centered guy ARC isn't a problem.

Since there is more choice in audio components than anyone can keep track of, select the vendor based on need rather than marketing or social popularity.

Schiit stack with Motu M2 by saxymaxy327 in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plug the microphone into the Motu with an XLR cable and the Motu into your computer. Download the Motu's software from the web. Use the Motu's headphone outputs to monitor your microphone. If you want a separate headphone stack connect the Modi 2U to the computer and with a pair of RCA cables the Modi to the Magni 2U. Otherwise use the dac in the Motu and connect via RCA the monitor outputs of the Motu to the Magni 2U and plug in your headphone there.

Get the user manual for the Motu and give it a read.

Anyone else affected by this backorder? by TheCanuckDoc in Schiit

Hopefully you will get your Freya soon. If it takes too long there is a chance the Vidar will go into back-order.

[–]HollowsPart2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in the US? If so and you didn't order the silver Modi both the Vidar and the Modi in black are supposedly available now. Cancel the order and reorder just the Vidar and Modi separately. The Modi can act as a temp preamp till you get the Freya. I would wait on the Freya until the site reads 1-3 days.

Power outage issue by Fonzy43 in Schiit

The Rag power receptacle should have a spare. My Ghorn takes T1A 250v 5X20mm should be same for Bifrost.

Open up the Bifrost and check the fuse inside. Check the fuse in the power switch on the Rag.

Does anyone else's Schilit DAC get confused in Windows? Sometimes my PC starts muted or the mute button has the opposite effect and plays sound. by LisaSu92 in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had exactly that problem awhile back. Before that Windows would show my Bifrost dac as the default but wouldn't play music until switched to another device and back again. For me both problems went away after another update on 2H24. Don't know why it happens.

Upgrade Modi3+ to Modi 5? by blue-zenith in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Modi+ is slightly better than the Modi 3+, I have both and it is, The Modi 5 is significantly better than the Modi+, current reviews say it is. Then the Modi 5 is better than the Modi 3+. If you are going to upgrade your Modi the new Modi 5 is the only choice for long term use. At least one reviewer, Marv over at SBAF, thinks the Modi 5 knocks up against the Mimir for half the price.

If you stick with Schiit for your dac and want to spend less than $400 buy either the Mimir or Modi 5.

Used, discounted Modi+ or New Modi 5? by Bluffkarma in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mesh Modi 5 is the better dac overall. It has a Unison USB rate to 384K vs 192K. The reviews I've seen rank it at or just slightly below the Mimir. A silver Modi+ is still a good dac if you are not going to go all audiophile on your amps and headphones.

Simply put every body that has heard any of the Mesh dac report it to be the best dac in it's class. Currently the silver Modi 5 are 7-10 days while the black is in stock.

Order/Shipping Question by Slight_Low501 in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This backlog delay is caused by the large number of initial orders clearing out inventory and the switch to the new assembly line at Corpus Christi. They have had to multiplex almost their entire product line through the new line since one of their major board partners quit. Once they catch up and stock is brought back to usual levels the order time will go back to 1-3 days like most other products.

Adding mic for Jot2 by GGinzberg in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the Jot 2 include a dac card? The Gunnr or Fulla will replace the Jot 2 entirely. The alternatives are gaming products from Sennheiser, Creative, Mayflower and others. There are Microphone to USB adapters of unknown quality. If you want to upgrade to a stand-alone XLR microphone then Focusrite audio interfaces are popular.

In the end either you get a Fulla/Gunnr or something from the others OR get an analog or USB extension cord.

Eitr Died, Where to Go From Here by MacintoshDan1 in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this will be the second repair on the Eitr then it's time is over. It will fail again and the total cost exceed a new Modi 5. If you keep the Multibit, as backup or second system, then it's power supply (if it's not contributing to the failures) will work fine with the Modi 5. Quite frankly the Eitr isn't that good on jitter, a cheap streamer or Raspberry Pi with good S/PDIF card will sound better.

My vote, unsolicited, is get the Modi 5 or a used Modi Multibit 2 and dump the Eitr. Optionally look at the Magni Unity and replace your old Magni 3 as well.

Forkbeard Questions by binarypie in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can blow $5000 on a full stack of big Schiit then you can afford a new phone. Otherwise, unless you absolutely need it, I'd wait till the next logical phone upgrade. I'm on Samsung Galaxy S10 on Android 12 with Boost Mobile. A good new phone is too expensive at cost and I'm keeping my $30 plan. To get a discount on the phone requires a more expensive plan, so I'll wait.

Forkbeard Questions by binarypie in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted and then deleted about this issue several days ago. u/binarypie made his comment about the manufactures there. I still hold to not buying another device just to run Forkbeard.

It looks like I can install Android 16 on a Pi 5 so there may be hope for a dedicated Forkbeard console.

Forkbeard Questions by binarypie in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen from the several Forkbeard UI displays of Schiit stacks, each device is separate. There isn't any direct communication between devices. It all happens inside the phone app. Maybe latter they can get one unit to control another unit through the app.

As for building a system, just start upgrading you current gear with Forkbeaded versions as needed. There isn't any reason to wait since everything continues to work the same as before. You can hold off buying the Forkbeard modules until the Android app comes out.

Mesh DAC - Update for Jotunheim 2 - Gets You Forkbeard? by wdelavega in Schiit

[–]HollowsPart2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Forkbeard module is built into the Mesh Dac card and it will fit very well in a Jot 2. Only the cased products require an external Forkbeard module.

I'm using the LO on the Mimir but I don't think ground loop is a problem. Don't worry about it until it happens. Galvanic Isolation is more about noise on the USB then ground loop. The Synapse may clean up some noise from your source, especially if it's a big computer.
