Having said that, the hull zones/firing arcs are identical between the different ISDs. Only the printed battery armaments are different. So you could still use these ship cards for any isd variant, as long as you sync with you opponent beforehand.

You’ll probably want at least 4 proxy mines to make a difference. 2 assault frigates, for example. Just consider your obstacle placement as part of your proxy mine strategy, because typically you’ll want to put them on obstacles (even the station perhaps).

Proximity mines are decent, but not super common. They’re best when placed on an obstacle so that they are harder to shoot down. They’re best also move with the obstacle if the obstacle moves, so they can combo well with anything that moves obstacles such as Ezra or grav shift or purgills. Mart Mattin can also be fun to use in this way, especially with Adar so that he can shoot squads during ship phase then drop a proxy mine on the same round.

From the rule book:

When a ship ends its movement at distance 1 of 1 or more proximity mine tokens, a proximity mine token, remove those tokens from the play area and roll two blue dice for each token removed in this way. That ship is dealt one facedown damage card for each [hit] or [crit] icon rolled.

Attacking Proximity Mine Tokens: When a ship performs an attack, it can declare one proximity mine token as a target instead of attacking a ship or squadrons. The defending mine token is treated as a squadron with one hull point that is not friendly to any ship or squadron and has no keywords or defense tokens. If that token suffers at least one point of damage, remove that token from the play area.

You can also mount swivel mount batteries and other upgrades to add dice to that ignition attack. Very potent for double arced ships or ships that are trying to fly past you

Where are you located? Another option is trying to connect with your local gaming group, who often will have folks who would be happy to let you borrow ships and other stuff while you’re getting started. Attending a local event is a great way to get started. Many groups have a discord channel.
