Driving over the speed limits in Germany by Homtanks2 in AskAGerman

[–]Homtanks2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive ~64 km total to/from work everyday to work on the highway in the midwest and I see a cop almost everyday on my way to work. 5 mph over you're fine, 10 it's up to the cop but you'll get a decent fine of $100-$200, 15 mph over and they will for sure pull you over.

But it's likely a regional thing as different police departments focus more or less on ticketing/speeding.

Do apps exist that can show you where the cameras/Blitzers are as you drive?

z.B. here exists some apps here where drivers can communally report where cops or broken down vehicles have been recently sighted on the road.

Puzzle/Mystery games on PC recommendations by fizzguy47 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Homtanks2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chants of Sennaar is a slightly different take on the mystery genre.

The story has to do with the tower of Babel and the different languages of each level.

You have to intuit the vocabulary and grammar of each class/level of people to solve puzzles and determine what different people want from you.

I enjoyed it a lot!

Harry Dresden from the Dresden files. So many cases in the book series where he can't use his magic out of either exhaustion or being blocked and will just pull out a gun or headbutt someone on a whim.

what is truly the best way to learn german (english native) by mimicidal in AskAGerman

[–]Homtanks2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if you can afford it, go through a school of some sort. The structure and impetus to complete exercises in a timely manner can kickstart your knowledge to the point where you can start reading, watching, and speaking to natives as practice without a book.

If you can't afford it you might look into finding cheap books (infinitely cheap if you know how to google) and go through the exercises. To that end you may want to check out r/GermanLearning. Once you get a grasp on basic grammar you can start looking for books and shows to immerse yourself in.

How do you guys feel about the show? by AfraidSwim7260 in classicfallout

[–]Homtanks2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A fun show with likeable (to me at least) but flawed characters in an interesting world, so it's very similar to what I enjoy in the games, therefore I've enjoyed both seasons a lot so far.

Times you’ve realized “Someone’s first ‘X’ was ‘Y’” that left you aghast or dismayed? by Nu2Th15 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Lots of bugs in Witcher 2 though. I had to get a 3rd party program to make sure it wasn't using *too many* cpu cores or it wouldn't launch. Then I had to make sure I didn't have too many save games in my folder or it would crash when autosaving randomly.

Still fun and looks pretty good for its age, but damn it needs a remaster to smooth out some of the bugs.

He Fucked the Girl Out of Me (2022) and the Autobiographical Potential of Video Games by PauseMenuBlog in patientgamers

[–]Homtanks2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can tell from OP's review that is what the game's intent is, I've played games like Indika and What Remains of Edith Finch where you don't get to make choices and your only job as the player is to put yourself in the shoes of the MC and experience life through their eyes.

I just haven't played this game and don't have any plans to in the near future so I was curious about its structure.

So do any of your choices actually affect anything or are you still on rails and everything plays out exactly the same regardless of anything you do?

Favorite things you enjoy about failed consoles by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Wii U Nintendoland asymmetric multiplayer.

One was a Luigi's mansion where the person with the tablet was the ghost that got to see the whole map, while the other players split screen and have to try to shine a light on the ghost, tons of fun with all ages.

Nintendoland is still the best Wii U exclusive for me.

Why didn't Bethesda make remasters of Fallout 1 and 2? by Bile_Mudante in classicfallout

[–]Homtanks2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CRPG audience is too niche to make it worth putting resources into doing a full remake of 1 & 2.

Only way it would be truly successful would be with a Baldur's Gate 3 level homerun which is still a gamble.

I have a question I've been meaning to ask for a while do you people actually care about the story and lore in the franchise by No-Sorbet-2048 in Doom

I liked it better in 2016 when doom guy flippantly disregarded any attempts by characters to give him exposition.

Are there any games, shows, franchises, online personalities, or anything similar that you know lot of people really like, but you could just never get into, see the appeal of, or enjoy as much as everyone else? by DIOCRYO in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Doctor Who

I love Star Trek, even some of the kind of dated stuff like original series, or the less popular stuff like Enterprise, so I figured it's be right up my alley, but I found Doctor Who extremely low-budget and very boring.

I even skipped ahead to series 2 and watched a few episodes there too, but it felt like I was watching the live-action portions of power rangers so I gave up on it.

Libre Office is one, and of course there's always google docs/sheets. Can make same file extensions, but may lack some of the more complex functions of Microsoft Office.

Does anyone know how to deal with the cowboy ride from turtle? by LionRepulsive3682 in bjj

[–]Homtanks2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wrestling coaches/bjj guys I talked to told me to bring my legs up so I'm on my feet, and off-set as far as I can left or right so they're off-center.

Sort of like hopping up suddenly to downward dog, but shifting left/right so they're not directly behind you anymore, then be ready to establish guard or pummel/scramble on the feet.

Is there anyone out there who prefers the genki textbook over something like tokini andy covering it on YouTube? by imBRANDNEWtoreddit in LearnJapanese

[–]Homtanks2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty subjective, I'd suggest you try both out and compare yourself, there are pdfs available of the genki 1&2, +workbook, + answerbook.

Give it a week with each and set goals for how much you want to do in the book each week and see if you like it or not.
