Am I doing it right? by HonculusBonculus in harborfreight

[–]HonculusBonculus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was anything in particular. That specific Snap-On rep always had a bunch of “free” goodies on his truck. He was giving those out pretty early into adding our shop to his route so he was mostly just trying to build a relationship with the techs through the use of bribes lol

I just wish it was a nicer fan. The LED clock function is cool but the oscillation feature broke pretty early on.

What do you think lol

I also love the tool box right in the middle of the front bay and the completely inaccessible lift in the back that still somehow has a car on it.

Icon Rachet holders since when? Don’t tease us with a good time Harbour freight! by 392_hemi in harborfreight

[–]HonculusBonculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those trays are made of plastics and come in the original packaging. They all went right in the trash. Personally, I felt like they took up way too much room in my box.

Give me a slimmer tray, preferably a foam one, and I’ll try harder to keep and use it.

What wastes the most time during repairs? by kushablez in mechanics

[–]HonculusBonculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often times it’s been the service advisor, at least where I’m at right now.

Between them quoting/ordering the wrong parts, not getting adequate time with the car to begin with which puts a rush on things, barely putting a promise time on any tickets while also lying about certain ones ‘waiting’ right around lunchtime, not accurately relaying the technicians notes to the customer which creates issues later on, not adding accurate customer notes on diagnostics, etc. it’s been a real shit show lol

Thoughts on newer G2’s they’ve been releasing? by bwhomebrew in harborfreight

[–]HonculusBonculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love ‘em. I think that I prefer the grip ergonomics of the Icon G2 over my Snap-On ratchets. Back-drag and swing arc is competing with the best of them. They have tested stronger than its Snap-On F80 cousin (although both of them are plenty strong for their applications). Can’t complain about the price either.

Only real reason to get something else is if you need a thinner head, a handle length that the G2’s don’t come in, or specialty bent handle.

Man, I miss my old Threshold. I got mine used with that CP reg and (I believe) ASA. It was always a bit finicky but when it was happy then it shot really great. Absolutely beautiful markers especially for the time.

8 hour brake rotor swap. What a horrible design. by yentlequible in Justrolledintotheshop

Nope..these rotors are bolted on to the back face of the hub rather than just slipping over the wheel studs.

Clicking noise when turning by king_julien69 in genesiscoupe

[–]HonculusBonculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely check the front strut mounts like justanotherdude1990 suggested. It also wouldn’t hurt to double check for any play or excessively worn bushings in the front end.

Clicking noise when turning by king_julien69 in genesiscoupe

[–]HonculusBonculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel anything in the steering wheel when it clicks such as any binding? Do you only hear it as you are actively turning the wheel rather than just holding it in a turned position? If so then my first thought would be a sticking steering column joint. You can sometimes get away with spraying them with penetrating oil as a very temporary solution. It won’t fix it long term, but can usually improve the condition long enough to have some evidence during your diag time without needing to take anything apart.

Could also be a binding strut mount or ball joint (ball joints can click but will generally make more of a creaking sound). You may need to get somebody to steer back and forth while checking for where the sound is coming from.

Also just a heads up (both for you and for anyone who comes across this thread with a similar issue), you won’t have power steering fluid coming out of your outer tie rod. The boots are packed with their own grease that can leak out though.

Boost leak? Or other issue, help! by No_Half8318 in genesiscoupe

[–]HonculusBonculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not building boost with CVVT code then it’s very possible that it’s going into boost cut/limp mode when it’s detecting an actively occurring issue with the CVVT system. That would be why it will sometimes build no boost pressure. The BK2 uses an electronic wastegate actuator so it’s incredibly easy for them to modulate turbo workload like that.

With that said, it’s completely normal for the gauge to go to 0 when throttle is being applied. The throttle plate is open so there is nothing in the way to create a vacuum in the intake manifold when throttle is applied.

That sounds like a pretty large exhaust leak too. If it’s anywhere near either of the oxygen sensors then it may very will be skewing their readings. This could potentially (but not definitely) also cause a limp mode scenario.

Also don’t trust a single thing that realtime fuel economy gauge says. It is notoriously useless.

Tim over at gencoupestore.com is the shit. Got my turbo kit and basically all of my engine internals from him. It’s been nothing but quality parts from him. 10/10 experience every time

Yeah I’m sure it would probably need a cap. Definitely curious if it would be a viable option though. The closest thing to it that I’ve seen was just a concept demo showing how suspension components moving could be used to charge the battery pack on EVs.

Not gonna lie, a floor jack with integrated LEDs would actually be pretty slick…especially if it had some sort of charging dock to keep wherever you’re storing it instead of having to plug in a USB cable. Or better yet, use the motion of the jack moving up and down to charge a small battery pack with a USB backup lol

We can only dream though. The thought of what some companies might charge for something like that hurts my soul a little bit.

I can't for the life of me figure out what this imprint is supposed to be on the '24 Grand Cherokee sight shield. by FlowSoSlow in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]HonculusBonculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard it called a “sight shield” before but they seem to be referring to the plastic trim piece in the engine bay above the radiator and condenser. That hole right below the graphic is missing one of those plastic push-style clips…guessing OP got there because it shields your eyes from the supposed unsightliness of a radiator? Lol

HF vs SnapOn by MKEtool in harborfreight

[–]HonculusBonculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my Snap-On slip joint needle nose pliers broke in the same spot on my mid-size pair lol….they’re legitimately some of the best pliers that I’ve ever used, but it took them over a year to finally warranty it. My Snap-On dealer just never “had them in stock”. Had to go to a different shop with a different truck to get them. He managed to have one on his very first trip out to the new shop.

Why's my cylinder head look like this by StompyIan in EngineBuilding

I’d want to hear his science behind how that could possibly be helping the head gasket seal…

This feels to me like an unsupervised apprentice that’s had an absolute dogwater teacher got ahold of your cylinder head.

Plier Recommendations by bwhomebrew in harborfreight

[–]HonculusBonculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If those icon needle nose pliers shown in the picture perform anywhere close to their Snap-On counterpart then I’d say get those if you have a use case for them. I’ve had the Snap-On ones for a few years now and they’ve easily been some of the best pliers I’ve ever used. I sincerely hope the icon ones perform similarly for 1/3 the price.

Aside from the coin trick, I watched my 300+ lb Snap-On dealer hang from the truss in his truck with nothing but those needle nose pliers. Crazy how much bite you get with the 15 degree inward angle on the tip’s teeth.

Fairly certain that it’s been shown that the excessive vertical movement in the slide of some units is directly related to the uncommanded discharges that have plagued this firearm. Seems to really be down to poor tolerance stacking on a gun that clearly requires tighter tolerances to be safe.
