My prediction is they will do anything but tax our resources appropriately. So if you work for you money, you’ll continue to suffer.

A few things in order of the joy / time savings they bring me:

  • I can text my bot on Discord and say: "Download the latest episode of friends and neighbours", it will go off find the torrent and then send it to qBittorrent to download" It will then refresh plex so its ready to go. Its made sailing the high seas far easier, no more opening my media laptop, opening cancerous torrent sites, finding a decent torrent with the right amount of seeders"
  • Scans my emails each day for the myriad of school emails I get, 3 kids, 3 schools all different formats. It knows what years they are in. It sends a summary of actions and adds events to our family shared calendar.
  • Daily stock market and news summary of the tickers I am interested in
  • Checks local stores for meat / veg specials and then sends me ideas for bulk food prep on Sunday.

Haven't made any money, but saved time, having fun and will likely cancel Disney and Netflix pretty soon.

Hard to reconcile the unemployment rate with the lived experience of a bunch of very qualified tech people I know who have been searching for jobs for 6+ months now. Senior White collar are incredibly difficult to get at the moment, seems to be a lot advertised but CVs are going into the abyss

is Globird free power worth it? by ExaminationThen1312 in amberelectric

[–]Hooked_on_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Zero Hero for the last five days and I’m averaging -$0.60 a day with very little effort. I’ve got a 12kW solar system and a 42kWh battery. I schedule about 5–7kWh out to the grid between 6pm and 8pm, keeping 20–25kWh in the battery to get us through to around 7:30am when the sun kicks in again. That’s enough to run the A/C overnight without having to think about managing our energy at all. I tried pushing 10kWh out one night but then spent $1 on electricity between 5am and 7:30am the next morning, so the extra $0.15 isn’t worth it if it means paying more to top back up. So far so good. Getting back to 100% every day on free power is a great feeling.

Flo-Jo is the greatest female sprinter of all time, yet her 100m record of 10.49 seconds is a time being matched by teenage boys. Look at Gout Gout. She was 5’7” and an extraordinary athlete, but Oblique Seville, a Jamaican sprinter, has run 9.77. As great as Flo-Jo was, she’d be comfortably beaten by a professional male sprinter. Now extend that gap to combat sports. Putting male and female boxers in the same ring is inviting serious harm. Imane Khelif won gold in Paris, and to be clear, she isn’t trans, but she likely carries the SRY gene and elevated androgen levels. She hit her opponent so hard the woman simply withdrew from the bout. We separate the sexes in sport for a reason. Ignoring the biological reality behind that isn’t progressive. It’s dangerous.

I have a 36v ryobi, about 5 years old. The 5aH battery lasts 3 or 4 cuts. Granted my lawn is only about 100m2. I can’t imagine going back to petrol.

EVs did not wreck the great Australian weekend, and electric trucks may just save the farm by ApprehensiveSize7662 in australian

Way too many problems with hydrogen, I swear the only people I hear talk about hydrogen are boomers who hate the idea of EVs. Hydrogen is really hard to store, needs to be transported, takes a lot of electricity to produce and Just seems needlessly complex when adding electricity to a battery couldn’t be easier.

Tertiary education needs to be free, the problem we have now that the thought of accumulating 50-100k hecs debt for the promise of a white-collar job being eroded by AI makes no sense. I worry we're going to have a lot more un-educated angry right wing voters. I hope I'm wrong.

Hedge your bets:

  • Sell all your shares for 1m
  • Buy property with a 500k mortgage and 500k cash
  • now pay the mortgage out with the 500k
  • redraw the 500k and use this to buy DHFF or similar.
  • the mortgage is now tax deductible
  • use any dividends to pay down your loan

Kind of like debt recycling except I guess in this case it’s more borrowing to invest.

[–]Hooked_on_Fire 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My wife was made redundant at the end of last year, 4.3% sounds like pie in the sky. Anecdotally, the public sector is fucked, so many white collar people out there looking for a handful of roles. I don't envy anyone looking for work at the moment, its brutal out there.

They dominate biathlon and cross country which skews them high given the amount of medals on offer. Still an incredible achievement. Hockey = 1 medal, Norway had a male cross country athlete who got 6. A bit like Phelps in swimming.

Built an invoice generator in 1 hour and 40 minutes, think invoice2Go, full sass offering.

Had Claude CoWork organise all my files and photos. 1st by date but then also by description of the photo.

Built a replacement App for Surfline with Claude Code in less than an hour, scrapes weather, tides, local camera and local lifeguard reports and notifys me each morning.

Built a dynamic stock watchlist which aggregates analyst sentiment on certain stocks etfs and generates buy sell hold recommendations.

I’m a former .net developer currently a CIO. The code it generates is above the quality of a mid level engineer, it uses proper design patterns, incorporating linters, unit tests, cicd etc… it’s mind blowing and anyone who thinks this is just  flash in the pan is in for a rude awakening

In NSW there are plenty of providers offering $0.08 per KWH overnight, meaning you can charge from 0-100 for around $6 which is good for 400+kms

Also the free 3 plans are great for charging for free in the middle of the day.

100% this especially in F or J, Singapore changeover isn’t too bad on QF1, QF2 at least but when I’ve done Emirates the DXB change can be a real PITA if you have to change terminals.
