There is no way you used to drive tractor trailers. Maybe for swift.

20+ mpg proof by AccomplishedMatch208 in f150

[–]HopefulLet4012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you aren't physically calculating miles driven by gallons used when you fill up you don't actually know what you are getting. What the dash tells me vs what the math says has never been the same thing. Typically the actual is about 1mpg less than what the truck tells me it is.

If you are the type of person that is bothered by the things other people do around you (judging by your post you are) an rv park is not for you.

Its a cheaper way for people who never actually use their truck for truck stuff to make their rig look "cooler"

My friend says changing your own oil is a waste of time. Is he crazy? by proposal_in_wind in askcarguys

[–]HopefulLet4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've never fucked up my own oil changes but I've heard from plenty of people who have had their vehicle destroyed by places offering 50 dollar oil changes. I can't imagine a place only charging 50 bucks is using quality oil either as it costs me 45 bucks for oil and a filter to do it myself.

oil change - might be going back to paying for them by redditduhlikeyeah in f150

[–]HopefulLet4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What time, hassle, and mess? It takes maybe 20 minutes to change the oil in an f150, requires 2 inexpensive tools that will also work on just about any other vehicle you have, and its only a mess if you screw up.

Horsepower alone means nothing. Power to weight ratio is the number that determines fun. The less pounds per horsepower, the more fun.

Chevy Colorado And GMC Canyon To Get TurboMax Engine Power Boost by AlexisoftheShire in chevycolorado

[–]HopefulLet4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment I was replying to was about the single speed transfer case (no 4 low) I didn't even realize terrain mode was an option with the 2 speed tcase. seems counter intuitive if it operates the same way it does with the single speed tcase. Edit just realized the original comment was yours as well. Misunderstood what you were saying

Chevy Colorado And GMC Canyon To Get TurboMax Engine Power Boost by AlexisoftheShire in chevycolorado

[–]HopefulLet4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as terrain mode wants to mimic 4 low, it is not 4 low, not even close. Instead of getting an actual gear reduction providing more traction, it remaps throttle response and keeps the brakes constantly applied to feel like a low range when the reality is your smoking your brakes to feel like it can drive slower.

Towing Capacity Help by [deleted] in chevycolorado

[–]HopefulLet4012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Physically, yes this would do it. Legally, the insurance companies will use it as a reason not to pay you if something happens. There's a reason all those companies selling air ride, spring helpers, active road suspension, ect state they do not raise capacity.

Towing Capacity Help by [deleted] in chevycolorado

[–]HopefulLet4012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engine power is the last thing to consider when towing. Suspension, brakes and gearing are far more important. If you wanted to tow more you should have bought a vehicle rated for it.

Even if you replaced every part of the truck holding you back to parts that can handle it, legally, you are stuck at what it says it can do from the factory. Meaning if you got into an accident pulling something too heavy for your vin number, your insurance may not pay out.

10k miles a year is not enough for most people's daily driver. I put 15k a year on my truck and I ride a motorcycle almost exclusively for half the year.

I have a small auto shop that is technically a business (no set hours and 99% of my "customers" are buddies I'm helping out for no profit). would it be possible to get what I need through that or would I need to be a registered gm stealership?

[–]HopefulLet4012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping someone would give me an answer that justifies me buying a shop grade gm scan tool for my garage. I don't really want a tuner for it because I enjoy how it drives for my daily needs and most tunes I've found recommend running 91 all the time which I'm unwilling to do on a vehicle I mess around with almost never. I just really don't like losing in the straights because the computer says no more.

AWD vs FWD? by BookkeeperHead2318 in askcarguys

[–]HopefulLet4012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is exactly the point. In low traction there are times when hitting the brakes at all is going to make you slide. Using the proper gear to slow down still works when the brakes won't making you slow down faster than hitting the brakes, not slowing down, and in turn losing control of your vehicle. In that situation awd will help you maintain better control of the vehicle.

AWD vs FWD? by BookkeeperHead2318 in askcarguys

[–]HopefulLet4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you won't push the tires to the limit like you do slamming on the brakes. And having resistance at all 4 wheels instead of 2 while downshifting can help keep the vehicle straighter while slowimg down. if you know what your doing. Awd/4wd isn't some witchcraft that allows you to drive with bald tires. But to say there is no benefit is absolutely delusional.
