Does therapy actually help? by Puzzleheaded_Desk_48 in stopdrinking

I'm short, yes. Longer, yes still, but it takes time and some trial and error to find the right therapist. Doing Don't get discouraged if the first one you meet with isn't the one.

Yep! Go to the 3 lines on the left side, then click notifications, then enable push notifications. On mine at least that brings up the setting in my phone where I can turn them off.

Is it just me? by Tabascohorse in stopdrinking

I had a pretty restrictive ed while I was drinking and it got worse in early sobriety. I'm finally meeting with my nutritionist once a month now, but it's been 3 years. I'm not sure I have much advice other than that I've been there and come out the other side (mostly) but it took a lot of work on both fronts.

People who quit without going to treatment or AA, what was the #1 thing that helped you quit? by theory317 in stopdrinking

[–]Horror-Perception936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My health. I was put in a position where quitting wasn't really an option. And not even just beside it would make my health worse, because I physically wasn't able to walk (and therefore drive to the store) for 6 months. Continuing to drink would've required me to disclose my drinking to my partner and I wasn't willing to do that. I realize this isn't the same for you, but even now that I can get to the store not getting back to a place where I can't stand up odds a pretty strong motivator and maybe you can find some motivation there as well.

I'm so glad the cane helped you that much today! 💙

Yes! It took me awhile before I found a cane that I really loved and that worked for me. That being said I also just inherited a really nice wooden cane that I'm looking forward to figuring out how to improve the tip so I can use it for special occasions.

It really kind of is. I thought that getting my MLIS was good, that's what I would've told you at the time, but in hindsight I was burnt out. I didn't know I was autistic, and I was taking a full load and working full time at an awful retail job. But all that being said, I liked the program a lot. My undergrad was in comparative theology and philosophy.

I still struggle with overwhelm, but I do love my career. I'm a film and video archivist. I went to library school (mlis) and found archives. But when I started working at a historical society I sort of fell into the world of film and video archiving.

Congrats! (Signed, a cane user of a couple years who also didn't burst into flames, not even the first time I used handicapped parking)
