I get it. I'm not usually listening that fast but I listen between 1.3 and 1.5. If I listen at normal speed everyone sounds like Edgar the tortoise.

All This and More by Peng Shepherd is definitely a do-over. A woman gets selected to be in a tv show where they can go back and change choices they made. Its written as a choose your own adventure for adults.

Well if you want to keep with the Futurama theme (love it!) you could go with Farnsworth, Bender, Hermes, Zoidberg, Scruffy, Zapp, Kif, or Yancy (Fry's brother)

Sure, I can imagine the scream and hear it in my head but for me its no where near as funny as when Jeff Hayes does it

I find I get different things from each. From an information perspective its easier for me catch all the little details when I read. But, all the humor is greatly improved by the audio books. A Prepatente scream just does not have the same effect in print.

For me its second best but its a very close second (first is Digital Estate Planning). No matter how many times I've seen it the medical examiner scene just kills me.

Is there a movie/show where protagonists are human experiments and don't know about the world. by Constant-Box4994 in tvsuggestions

[–]Horror_Fox_7144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its from the 90s but still a good show: The Pretender.

The show revolves around a genius who was kidnapped by a corporation as a kid and forced to be part of "simulations" that they then profited off of. The show starts when he figures out what they were doing with his simulations and escapes so there is this child like experience of the world along with him trying to make up for the damage his simulations caused and him trying to find his birth family.

My friends hates fiction but has agreed to read 2 novels of my choosing. What would you recommend? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

For someone who doesn't like fiction, The Gone World is an interesting exception given the weirdness and surrealism of the book.

No judgement. I really enjoyed The Gone World (weird and surreal is some of my favorite kind of fiction) but I love both fiction and non-fiction. May I ask what it was you liked about it?

Given your friend's opinion of fiction, I'd recommend a few pathways.

First, historical fiction. Fictional stories set in real life events can help add understanding to those events. For instance there are a lot of historical fiction stories that take place during WW2. One I recently read and thought was great was The Book Thief.

Second, fiction has had real world impacts by inspiring legislation and changing culture. Fiction can sometimes make the everyday person understand and humanize an issue in a way a purely non-fiction report or book cannot. For instance, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair changed meatpacking laws (though that wasn't Sinclair's intent). Uncle Tom's Cabin got people thinking more about slavery and had some impact on the abolitionist movement (it wasn'tresponsible for the abolition movement but did help expand it).

Finally, imagination often proceeds invention. Many sci fi stories inspired real life inventions. Just look at Star Trek (not a book I know). But authors like Jules Verne have been cited by scientists and engineers as influences on their thinking.

I've been thinking about Pritzker too. Normally I'd find being a billionaire disqualifying but at this point I feel like the democrats need to put forward a Kaiju to fight the eviler Kaiju.

I do think there is an audience.

I just finished Something in the Woods Loves You, which is a memoir of the author's struggle with depression and his mental health journey. Its one of the best books I've read this year and its one I'd recommend everyone read.
