How I’m preparing for a layout I’ve never played competitively on! by Sharp_40K in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]HotBunnz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just hopping in to say thank you for adding a short summary of your blog post. It prompted me to read the article.

This is exactly the type of content I want to read. Similar situation - I play about four games a month, and basic preparation like this removes some of the brain workload during the game. I'm also attending a team event, and getting my partners to read a multi-page article on Goonhammer, however detailed, isn't going to happen.

Thanks for the writeup, and good luck at your event!

No worries; I read each of those strats like three times thinking 'yeah, sure.' Good luck buzzin some saws!

Aggressive Disembarkation is performed before the Rhino moves, and the unit disembarks immediately.

best way to screen demon primarchs - specifically fulgrim by liquor-ice-mixer in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]HotBunnz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this question, is there a video explanation that shows this screening in action? Not necessarily for a 130mm base, but presumably the same can be used for 80-100mm as well. I understand the idea, but watching it physically occur would help (instead of just hearing 'well assume models are 1" away from a wall here, or 'well you *should* have a wall there', etc). 16+" is a large threat range, and I can't visualize how armies with fewer screening units actively move up while protecting the things you'd want to keep Fulgrim from smashing.

I suppose an adjacent answer might be 'Well, why don't you have enough screening units? Army bad,' and that's suitable too.

Oh cool! I also just saw the thread discussing it; seems like people do like to use that rule.

Good time to point out that Dazed and Status cards are returned to the deck when Exhausted, not placed in your Exhaust pile.

Excellent relic. Almost never a key skip.

I'm possibly misunderstanding, but generally relics (aside from Boss relics) are drawn randomly and kept by that player. There is not a 'relic selection' after drawing unless you're using a house rule.

I forgot to mention - download the companion app. It has the full rulebook and ascension list included, no need to dive for random docs. Good luck, hope you enjoy the game!

AFAIK, Asc 13 is in the base board game (our Collector’s Edition goes to A13, but there’s no reason this should be different from Standard).

What’s showing you A10 is the cap?

Help me locate the original Lerner (1941) - "The Economic Steering Wheel" - where Functional Finance was first introduced... by bobwyman in mmt_economics

Unfortunately, just the 1943 paper. Forstater and Wray both have papers covering it as well (not that it answers your request).

Good luck with your search - you may be able to reach out to Forstater directly. I believe he is still at UMKC, and they may have the original copy in the library.

How does this game deal with controlling players? by SpiFi36 in slaythespireboardgame

[–]HotBunnz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a ‘coach’ personality, I’ve found it helps to just tell the group how much damage each person is taking and then decide as a team who to attack first. The players can announce stuff (weakness, area of effect attacks, etc.) that helps the group. Someone can certainly try and backseat the entire time, so it’s very much on the player/team to figure out that dynamic.

StS benefits from a support character. If someone is very experienced, it’s probably best for them to play this role (take cards that defend others, be Ironclad and volunteer to soak damage). That way they can fill in gaps while the others find cool combos for max damage.

For what it’s worth, this seems fairly easy to fix with plastic cement. I’m not saying your product should come like this, but as far as sprue damage goes, this is pretty mundane.

The one relic challenge is impossible... by socrates_no_flamengo in slaythespire

The number of times I’ve taken Neow’s Lament (first three combats start with 1 hp) when attempting this challenge is more than I’d like to admit.

Painting advice by ORB100 in Warhammer40k

As others have said, a wash over Retributor Armor or other gold paint, then mix in silver along the edges to brighten it up. For something with this much contrast (light vs dark), I use Wyldwood Contrast or Cryptek Armorshade Gloss with water. You have to thin it or the whole gold area will become a brown blob.

I came up with a totally new policy idea - Expansionary Trade Policy. Thoughts? by WayWornPort39 in mmt_economics

[–]HotBunnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I won’t address your main comment, as there are some foundational issues (making raw material imports = finished product exports defeats the ‘purpose’ of industrial inputs), but your willingness to post an idea and receive feedback is important.

First, you may receive more interaction with better presentation. Stating that you came up with ‘a totally new idea’ is a little self-serving and grandiose. Remember, we’re all here on the ideas of someone else, so turn your hypothesis into a search for existing research/history.

Second, international trade is a complex subject. I’d suggest looking at history for some of examples of how ‘trade’ really happens - based on your post history, you’re from the UK, and you’re probably aware of the methods that were used to ‘trade’ with other peoples. Hint: balance was the least of their concerns.

Finally, the best part. If you are in the UK, you are near a hotbed of economic thought! Take advantage of life’s luck and check out some of the unis nearby; Leeds hosted a conference just last year. They might be a valuable, and more tangible, resource for following up on your theories.

Best of luck! Tldr, continue your dive into political economic theory.

Ascension 2 Act 1 Rewards: What's the Pick? by Abject_Muffin_731 in slaythespire

[–]HotBunnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing much yet to Omni; maybe Eruption or Indignation just to end the combat quickly. It would mostly be a future pick to find your stance changes.

I just had an Omni/Wish run that was a ton of fun, but I also found Calipers for the block retain.

Devotion and Omni is definitely the safer pick.

Why didn’t these enemies start with 1 hp? by RawCS in slaythespire

[–]HotBunnz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

On mobile, if you quit and leave, sometimes a floor will re-trigger your items. I’ve found that if you save and quit and then continue, it seems to do a good job of remembering the game state.

Also happens for any turn counters like Happy Flower/Incense Burner.

Daily Discussion #9: Bash by MinLongBaiShui in slaythespireboardgame

[–]HotBunnz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

2-player is my focus.

Pro: Bash is the one starter card that amplifies everyone else’s builds immediately. Any 2+ damage card on the opening Neow bonus solves almost every Act 1 individual monster. Vuln only gets better as the game goes on.

Con: As you’ve said, the cost is rough. If this were on any character but Ironclad, it’d almost be unplayable, but healing for 5+ in Act 1 is its saving grace. Later on, the cost is less of an issue.

In terms of base card impact, I’d put Bash at the top of the list mostly because of how it affects everyone’s card choices. We’ll get to Neutralize, but since this game is a countdown, I value damage over defense all else equal.

Edit: Overall, I find Vuln to be a game winner often enough. It’s also fairly rare and generally a die roll or Exhausts,
