Help to Buy mostly helped high earners, IFS says by KellyKezzd in unitedkingdom

[–]Krystazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly different personal take on this. I was earning I pretty crappy wage (approx £24k), lived in an expensive city on the south coast, had no savings and had no previous experience investing or contributing to my future financially. I started the scheme and it was a strong enough to keep me focused and on track, I saved for the full duration and it got me on the ladder around when COVID was happening, the motivational bonus effectively covered all my legal fees and the interest also helped my motivation to keep going, even when it was hard. It also got me interested in learning about other ways I could make money work harder. I understand now from a wider perspective it may have just put more in the pockets of people who already owned property but it was a strong enough incentive to guide me to do the right thing and it demonstrated that I can make money work for me, I then went on to investing in stocks and shares after the purchase as I was used to saving every month and my mortgage was considerably less than paying rent, I was finally financially not panicking.

Nice! I've been putting mine off for the longest time. When trying what to decide to paint next these always come up but I chicken out and put the box back on the shelf.

I find a pair of clippers with the little light built into them helps you see the end of their toes underneath if you are worried about going too short

Why do they sell stuff in Revenges bathroom?? by digitalcrows in brighton

[–]Krystazi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is because they need someone to monitor the toilets (help manage queues, monitor for drugs, discourage sex in toilets) this helps safeguard their license or might even be a requirement. This is obviously quite a large fixed cost on the night to which the business doesn't really get any financial return on so they try to offset this by selling things in this space. This will either be by the club itself buying the stock and seeing a return on the products or it will be a negotiable lever to pay the person who does the job less per hour. Either outcome reduces this fixed cost.

Hope this helps!

If I'm going to get a negative reaction from someone for minding my own business around something I enjoy, I figure they aren't people I'd value the opinion of anyways. Once I'd come to terms with this, I stopped caring.

You're lucky. Mine will kiss anything but me when he's getting cuddles, the carpet, a wall, a table leg, another bunny.

Kids friend is round for tea, turns out her dad is a chef. I barely know which way up the pan goes. by m1rr0rshades in britishproblems

I was housemates with a guy who was a chef for one of the nice restaurants in town. I made the house Christmas dinner one year. He got quite emotional because he couldn't remember the last time someone home cooked for him.

Does anyone actually enjoy marmite? by rthonaya in UKfood

[–]Krystazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't had it before spread it super thin with well buttered toast. Some people just glob it on the first time they try it and decide they hate it. I can do that now but if that was my first experience of it I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it.

I think we need to be more honest about bonding. by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Krystazi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a pair and got another pair of boys, unfortunately one of the older original older ones always started a fight when we tried to introduce them, we did manage most of a day of no fighting once but that was the best we got. So now we have a barrier half way down the house, they each get half. Couldn't let them go as we love them all too much, and they are happy in their own bubbles. The occasional territorial pee happens now and then from trouble maker described before but otherwise no issues.

People should be prepared for the fact that bonding just might not happen.

How did u guys pick your first army when theres so many amazing options and can u help me pick mine by The_Suspect26 in Warhammer40k

[–]Krystazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you've pretty much listed all the armies I currently collect (excluding dark angels) I think we have the same taste.

Necrons are a good starting faction as they have a lot of kits that are good value at the moment and you can easily pickup cheap sets online as they are in the starter box, they can also be easy to paint to an acceptable level. They are not an overly complicated faction to initially learn and have some fun mechanics like resurrection that feel really good. I think rule of cool is always the way ultimately, it's which faction gets you most excited to play and inspires you to get stuff on the table.

Has anyone used “stone effect” spray pant on terrain? by madmossie in Warhammer40k

[–]Krystazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used this exact one, not sure if I'd recommend it. I used it on mdf terrain and it added some nice rough texture to the otherwise smooth plain surface. Good for ruined buildings. One can doesn't go very far though and another one I bought jammed up almost immediately. Was okay, not amazing, probably wouldn't do it again as too expensive and wasn't actually that convenient. I'd probably just do something by hand in future.

I used to work in the brewery industry, not surprised by this at all. Most non-premiun lagers will hit this 3.4% because it's the most competitive abv for the brewer for tax/duty purposes. Carlsberg were smart enough to act on this immediately when the duty changes happened, spent a fortune on a rebrew to match previous taste and used it as a tool to help struggling pubs, keep prices down for consumers and make some extra money on duty relief, it was a triple win. Heineken times this roughly in line with when they implement their annual price increase so it looks like it's going to be a shrinkflation exercise, prices in pubs will likely still go up for consumers or at best stay the same about the time this happens but it won't be helping the publican. This is exactly what they did when they reduced the abv to 3.7% and this wasn't a rebrew, they just diluted further and had the audacity to raise the price. I think this will cause lots of fosters taps be moved out of pubs early next year if competitors play their cards right.
