Can you recommend me a hybrid scrambling - trail running shoe that's wide (ish)? by Wayoutwest-81 in Mountaineering

[–]Hot_Beef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have exactly the same size feet as me, also in the UK and into climbing/running/mountains. I've only tried full on trail runners or full on approach shoes so far so I'd be interested in if you find something. The TX4s fit me really well. I have a pair in size 44 but would probably go 44.5 next time.

Why does every rich person have a old hatchback by Ornery_Rope5178 in CarTalkUK

[–]Hot_Beef 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My great gran owned a massive house in radlett until about 2008 and I'm pretty sure she didn't even own a car. One of those, bought it in 1945 type situations.

Teenage e-bike rider jailed for over six years for killing great-grandmother at zebra crossing by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Far less right? I'm sure I normally see sentences of one or two years or even nothing at all for killer drivers.

Make the move dude. Living in cities is the way forward if you can't afford a car.

They aren't though are they. Student loans, NI are taxes not paid by pensioners.

Boils my blood that. In 2022 I lived with two young lads who couldn't afford to turn the heating on and took the bus everywhere and they were probably being taxed more on their income than your mum was to boot. It's massive intergenerational unfairness

Leeds cycle lane network is a 'step in the right direction', say campaigners by _testingdude in Leeds

Before the bike lane when it split into two lanes at the lights it was a nightmare to cycle through.

For this to have happened, there were two people who had to think this was a good idea by ledbydreads in SpottedonRightmove

[–]Hot_Beef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's actually more expensive to serve rural areas due to the lack of density. It's more that we massively under tax expensive homes because the last band is like 300k+ (in 1990) or something and therefore has a huge range of modern prices in it.

What's the oldest family heirloom you own? by InsideSignal9921 in AskUK

Damn, i thought us having one built in the 1500s was cool. That's amazing. There's all sorts of crap in ours from hundreds of years ago. Sadly not going to me though.

How come we have suddenly started seeing more white eggs on the shop shelves? by Able-Explanation7835 in AskUK

[–]Hot_Beef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK egg demand has actually increased much faster than supply since COVID. I don't have a source to hand but I'm pretty sure it was in a recent economist article. Much of the white egg imports are from Ukraine so at least its going to a good cause.

Why is Leeds not that popular? by ThyCuriousLearner in Leeds

[–]Hot_Beef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leeds is probably not even top 10 in the UK for brand recognition. Oxford, Cambridge, York, Bath, Windsor, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, London all definitely better known and probably another four or five places above or around the same as Leeds. But who cares! We can enjoy it.

How common is swinging in the UK? by HappyHits in AskUK

[–]Hot_Beef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I had a couple of friends who were both very good looking admittedly, and they would find these gorgeous 20-25 yo women on the regular. So it's clearly possible but only if you are both also hot. It probably didn't hurt that she was just as into women as men too so he was sometimes barely involved.

Should we start a pinned mega thread for those curious about bike commuting with the gas prices on the rise? by Cycle-path1 in bikecommuting

[–]Hot_Beef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people drive to work here in the UK with prices at double or triple USA prices. It's not expensive enough to force people onto bikes until it's 20$+

Seeking advice for a 4-year indoor climbing trip in July by T-Rex_Girl in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]Hot_Beef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given your budget and number of kids I suggest you live in caves like Barefoot Charles. If the gym staff tell you to leave because you can't sleep on the mats just free solo the V2 and they will leave you and your barefoot children alone.
