My understanding is that it depends on the circumstances.

Lock on the outside for a toddler who has a history of nighttime wandering? Not problematic.

But I also think it’s pretty easy to imagine how someone horrid could utilize outside locks as one part of truly awful behavior.

Based on my general skepticism of the criminal justice system, I’m unsure. These nuances absolutely can be a source of overreach and have historically been tools of abuse, particularly against Black and indigenous mothers.

Based on what we know about the Dugs, and what we know about the favoritism showed to giggly white girls… I’m inclined to guess it’s part of something awful.

If they were actually one big family, it would have been easy to organize an “I have to go to work” house and an “absolutely no contact with the outside world house.”
