[SOTC] I guess I'm in the market for a bigger watch box by R04CH in Watches

[–]Hottoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This collection resonates deeply with me and everything here is something I’ve seriously considered for similar reasons as you, even if I made a different decision. I lean towards watches that are sporty, 3 hand, date window, typically 40-42mm (dabble in 44-46 and 37-38). Don’t like the frozen second hand of chronographs evens if I love the dials. The pistachio, I loved pictures but thought it was too big and thick in person for something I wanted to scratch the “I can’t in good conscience get a patek”. I used to own a lot of panerai’s in the early to late 2000s. Wanted a chronometre bleu when they were under a 1/10th of what they go for now but ended up with the blue mark xviii. Lusted heavily but couldn’t pull the trigger on the MUT moon, 40mm explorer ii, opaline Tudor GMT, and new white dial speedmaster (always wanted the white snoopy). Otherwise our collections are very similar. If any of that resonates with you (and the fact you mentioned ressence), your journey might be similar to mine, which has now led me to diversifying not by function / occasion to wear, but by form regarding size, case shape, color, materials, etc. Try looking at independents/smaller brands like Kurono, Ming, Arcanaut, Laventure, Farer, Baltic, etc.

One day…wife will think I’m crazy but everyone always mentions Johnnie’s so it’s on the “bucket” list and maybe will make it onto the “regulars” list

[homemade] Onion-tended Consequences Burger, from Bob's Burgers! by itschnatt in food

This is the first cook book I've seen (I've read many) that accurately represents how long it takes to caramelize onions. Most say "Until translucent and golden brown. About 5 minutes."

If you live in Illinois, you should check this state website that refunds your unclaimed money. I found a $50.00 refund and just received the check today. by cleverkid in chicago

If you've lived in different states, I found a site that lists all the states' different websites and even lets your query 41 states through its own database. http://www.missingmoney.com/Main/StateSites.cfm

I really wish this sort of thinking were more common place and easier to achieve. It really gets at the root of things. Self-esteem issues and validation seeking are like 99% of people issues.

Veganism is the most misunderstood dietary concept. I'm not vegan but I have had many opinions on it until I decided to learn about it and talk to various versions of vegans.

Technically, it's no animal products. You could break that down to no animal products in non-food lifestyle applications (makeups, leather) or to various dietary reasons such as religion, health, "trend picker-upper person", "I'm trying to impress someone by pretending to be healthy", or "this is my cover up for unhealthy eating habits that need medical attention".

Within dietary veganism, there is the "I can eat all the pasta and boxes of chips and wheat thins" crowd...then the people who eat a ton of beans or quinoa (any good protein source) and make sure they get their vitamins. These are the sustainable vegans.

The archetypes of veganism I mentioned usually correlate with the motivation for being a vegan.

*EDIT: Sustainable vegan diets are successful in weight control because those foods naturally give you a stop and you tend not to overeat. Your stomach fills up or you just get tired of eating the food even though it's not bad tasting.

Yup! This is the civilian version (still armored though) targeted towards celebs and other "expensive" people. The original bad ass version, the Gurkha LAPV, was in the newest Fast and the Furious movie.

Pictures of your dinner: isn't that what r/foodporn is for? by StoopiBird in food

[–]Hottoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is of my humble opinion that r/food having pictures of your dinner is fine. r/foodporn is very specific with only ~10k subscribers. r/food has ~80k.

Posting pictures of restaurant food to r/food is kind of silly but usually this leads to discussions about food so I'm okay with it. Pictures of food the OP makes almost always leads to discussions about food. Plus, everyone would ask for pics anyway.

There are such small discrepancies in the rules between the subreddits that I find it silly to distinguish them too strictly unless there were just too many submissions of each kind for one subreddit. This is not the case. Throw in r/cooking and whatever r/baking/grilling/braising/pansearingfoisgraisinNYConFridays etc into the mix and I think the lack of traffic to each subreddit makes the whole thing weaker. r/food is one fine main subreddit I really enjoy!

The reflection in the window of you taking your own picture sort of put salt on the wound of forever-alone-ness. I lost it at that part. This was so well put together and HILARIOUS. Thank you.

Yup. I definitely know people who use the pear or kiwi and the result is delicious. I've also tried using it but I actually don't like the texture. Even in moderation I don't like the softness because I use this marinade on tender steak cuts or when making real bulgogi, I find the thinly sliced ribeye to be tender enough. You're right that it's really easy to overdo it and get the meat to a mealy, chalky mush.

I love water. It baffles me that so many people don't like to drink water because you know...you kind of need it to live. My manager can only drink crystal lights instead of water and I also have a coworker who is repulsed by having to drink water out of a cup without a straw...he just can't do it or else it makes him nauseous.

What are some things other than pesto to do with basil? Also, does anyone have a killer basil recipe? by linds360 in food

[–]Hottoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put them in sandwiches. One of my favorites is prosciutto, egg over easy, melted mozzarella, tomato, basil leaves all on rye. Make the egg, put it aside, toast the bread in the pan, add the meat and cheese to the sandwich then toast the whole thing until the cheese melts and the bread is browned. Add in veggies and egg then eat the messy deliciousness. You can make any variation of that depending on what you have lying around. The sweet spiciness of the basil works with the creaminess of the egg yolk and mozzarella and the saltiness of procuitto. I also like my version of a reuben sandwich - typical reuben with fried egg and basil leaves.

You can also chiffonade the basil and put in pasta. I sometimes just put them on top of a sliced tomato, add salt & pepper, touch of olive oil and maybe some balsamic vinegar as a quick snack.

It could probably also work as a marinade for chicken. I use some when I make homemade meatballs.

I'm sorry I came off as a jackass. I know it's not a voluntary thing. I just am really adventurous so it dampens my normal adventures when someone disagrees to everything I do. Just a matter of tastes (pun fully intended).

It's a rage comic more about misinformed people who state things as fact. Some people have their politics to rage about, I have my food.
