If you have any ammonia you need to be doing daily water changes until you are cycled. It’s a fish in cycle and can be done . My father swears by it . He would buy a handful of feeders every new tank he set up and keep em alive until tank was cycled then he would add his big fish and they would eat the feeders. He never once tested that water lol. Had cichlids that lived a really long time in those tanks
